After losing to Fedor Emelianenko last July, Tim Sylvia plans for a big return.
The former UFC heavyweight champion is prepared to fight in Japan in roughly 30 days. UFC lightweight Thiago Tavares, a fighter who's lost three of his past four fights after beginning his career with 12 consecutive victories, has rejoined the Florida-based American Top Team.

Shooto Announces First 2009 Event (mmaweekly.com)
The Japanese promotion Shooto yesterday announced it's first event for 2009, "Shooto Tradition 5", to be held at Differ Ariake in Tokyo on January 18. The first bouts announced feature Shooto Pacific Rim welterweight champion Yusuke Endo taking on Dream veteran Koutetsu Boku in a non-title fight and the Shooto returns of Shooto veterans Junya “Kodo” Kudo and Jin Akimoto.
WEC 38 Officially Announced: Varner-Cerrone, Faber-Pulver 2 Headline (mmaweekly.com)
WEC yesterday put out a press release officially announcing WEC 38. To be held on January 25 and air live at 9:30 PM ET on Versus, the card will be headlined by WEC Lightweight Champion Jamie Varner vs. Donald Cerrone for the title and the rematch of former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber vs. Jens Pulver.
