UFC 85: Rashad Evans vs. Thiago Silva fight possible
There’s significant a light heavyweight showdown in the works between Rashad Evans (11-0-1) and Thiago Silva (12-0) that could go down during the pay-per-view (PPV) event slated for May 24 in Las Vegas, Nevada, which will likely be dubbed UFC 85, according to multiple sources ( and .) If the fight takes place it will feature two of the top contenders in the crowded 205-pound division, as well as ensure that one of the combatants leaves the Octagon with the first loss on his record and the other remains undefeated with serious designs on an eventual title shot. Evans — the heavyweight winner on season two of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) — most recently dispatched of Michael Bisping via split decision at UFC 78: “Validation” in November 2007. He holds UFC wins over Sam Hoger, Stephan Bonnar, Jason Lambert and Sean Salmon, as well as a draw against Tito Ortiz. The ChuteBoxe-trained Silva has been perfect (3-0) since his Octagon debut, finishing all three of his opponents in impressive fashion (sans James Irvin). The Brazilian stunned a few folks with his technical knockout of Houston Alexander at UFC 78. However, the win came as no surprise for those who have followed the career of Silva — he’s a very dangerous fighter. This is a solid match up that will certainly help determine somewhat of a pecking order in the light heavyweight division. Title shots in this weight class will be few and far between in 2008, however, because of the participation of Rampage Jackson and Forrest Griffin on the upcoming season of TUF 7 that is set to debut in April. UFC 85 will also likely feature the lightweight championship bout between the winner of BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson against top contender, Sean Sherk. Source:

Penn wants St Pierre rematch
BJ PENN has revealed he wants a rematch with Georges St Pierre and says he would beat the Canadian sensation if they clashed again. ‘The Prodigy’ lost to St Pierre at UFC 58 by split decision but claims the outcome would be different next time round. He said: “Fighting GSP is all I think about every day. A rematch would be very good and I’ll make sure that I will 100 per cent guarantee victory if we fight again." Well if Penn wins next weekend and then wins in May against Sherk, I would love to see this happen as a fan. I think Penn would get his ass handed to him though, GPS has improved so much as a fighter since they last fought. I must say though as for rematches I would love to see, this would be one of the top 5.

Davis' change led to success
It didn't take too many occurrences of signing for a $15,000 purse and walking home with just $5,000 to sour Marcus Davis on professional boxing. He was, he says proudly, a fighter all his life and he was going to find a way to fight one way or another. But boxing was making him a miserable person and the man known as “The Irish Hand Grenade” finally had gotten fed up. "I just had so many issues and problems, with management and other things, and I was in and out of court so much with all of that," Davis said. "I pretty much got tired of the dirty aspect of boxing. I'd get half — or less — of what I was promised (in a purse). I wasn't getting the fights I wanted. Things weren't going in the direction I wanted. "After a while, I couldn't stomach it any more. It was making me sick. Literally. I had to get away from it."

Brandon Vera On His Fight With Tim Sylivia: "I’m ashamed to have been a part of it."
Brandon Vera has seemingly flown under the radar since his unanimous decision loss to Tim Sylvia at UFC 77. Vera revealed after the fight that he broke his hand in the very first exchange of the fight and had to adjust his game plan. MMAWeekly had the oppertunity to sit down with the rising heavyweight star to discuss the fight and his future. Vera On Breaking His Hand In The Fight: My thumb got caught and pulled back like a banana. I held my breath and pulled it real hard and it didn’t go back in. I finished the first round, went back to my coaches, who were like ‘(expletive) your left hand, you don’t need it! Use your right hand.’ I was like cool, I won’t use my left hand. I wanted to punch Tim so hard.I should have just kept touching and moving, instead of trying to light him up early. He started hitting me; I couldn’t hit him back. I started throwing short elbows to try and catch him on his way in. I sucked. That was one of the most boring fights ever. I’m ashamed to have been a part of it.

White has UFC as dominant MMA force
You blow your nose with a Kleenex, you Xerox a document. Sure, there are plenty of tissue makers and even more companies producing copy machines, but Kleenex and Xerox achieved the unthinkable — the brand name supplanted the product. UFC president Dana White would love to see that develop with his company in 2008. He's close to achieving the feat. Many casual fans and non-mixed martial arts media newcomers often tag the entire sport "UFC." Gary Shaw of Elite XC knows there's a lot at stake this year. He would like to see UFC go the way of America Online. AOL was a juggernaut in the late '90s until the dreaded C-word — competition — reared its ugly head.

Exclusive: IFL Comments on UFC Champion Randy Couture
So, what is Randy Couture's involvement in the IFL Mixed Martial Arts league? Rumors have been swirling around the MMA world regarding the reigning UFC Champion, whose contract dispute or retirement (depending on whose legal analysis you listen to - UFC's or Couture's) has left him in a very interesting situation. Couture, under contract to UFC, appeared at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Chris Horodecki's corner for the main event of IFL's Grand Prix Finals on December 29th, which was broadcast on billionaire Mark Cuban's HDNet. Earlier in December, IFL co-founder Kurt Otto mentioned Couture's name as a possible coach during the IFL's conference call to discuss their plans for 2008, but wouldn't commit to anything in terms of Couture's appearances.
