Hendo media day
(punch.freedomblogging.com)
Dan Henderson held an open workout for the media on Wednesday at his Team Quest Gym in Murrieta. Here is some of what he had to say: On Silva being considered the top MMA fighter pound-for-pound in the world by a number of publications and Web sites: “I think that’s great. I’ve already said my piece about it. I think he is a tough guy and very skilled but I wouldn’t consider him the top pound-for-pound fighter, just because I’ve seen more of his past than what the U.S. crowd has in the UFC. The guys he’s fought in the UFC really compliment his style. I expected him to walk through most of those guys. He’s very skilled on his feet. The guys he’s fought aren’t very good wrestlers.” On the new DREAM promotion in Japan which was put together by Fight Entertainment Group and former PRIDE staffers: “I think there are two promotions starting. There’s DREAM and World Victory Road. I think it’s great for the sport. I think a lot of fans miss having PRIDE and that production, not necessarily the fighters and they fights they put on. There are top fighters in most of the organizations now, but the production is what I miss most. It will be good to watch that just as a fan now. I’m in the UFC for a while.” On the possibility of competing in DREAM’s Middleweight Grand Prix: “I won’t be fighting in it unless the UFC sends me over. I think that’s good for the sport. It gives fighters another avenue to go out there and make some money and make a name for themselves. It’s tough with so many fighters and only one big organization in the world. “I’m not overly fond of fighting in tournaments anymore. I’ve been there and done that. My first nine fights were tournaments and multiple fights in a night. A lot of the fights in my career have been tournaments. I’m not fond of those. I’d rather focus on one guy, especially at the point of my career where I am right now. It enables me to really focus on that one opponent. When you fight multiple times in one night, you are not able to be specific to an opponent when you are training. There is a greater chance of losing a fight that way. I’ve got a little bit more to lose than I did in the past. We’ll see. It’s not necessarily about that. It’s about fighting twice in one night that I’m not fond of.” To check out the entire interview and listen to the audio of the interview, which is about 20 minutes, click this link:

Dana White: Tank Abbott UFC Hall of Fame future inductee
(mmamania.com)

“I think the whole thing was a farce [the EliteXC promotion]. I love Tank. I have nothing but respect for him; he’s always been good to me. But I don’t want to see that again…. Tank Abbott absolutely will be in our Hall of Fame.”
UFC President Dana White comments on the recent spectacle that was Kimbo Slice vs. Tank Abbott at the EliteXC: “Street Certified” show on February 16 from the BankUnited Center in Miami, Fla. He also reveals that he has a seat waiting for Abbott once he decides to hang up the gloves. That would mean Abbott would be enshrined alongside Octagon pioneers such as Royce Gracie, Randy Couture, Dan Severn, Ken Shamrock and soon-to-be inductee, Mark Coleman.

Wanderlei Silva Writes About Possible Move to Middleweight (actual possibility)
While Wanderlei Silva (31-8-1 MMA, 1-3 UFC) confirms that he’s met with UFC officials about a potential fight with UFC light heavyweight Keith Jardine (13-3-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC), the former PRIDE champion is also considering a move to middleweight. In addition to being one of the UFC’s smaller light heavyweights, Silva is considering a move to middleweight because he wants a rematch with Dan Henderson (22-6 MMA, 2-1 UFC) — especially if Henderson defeats UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva (20-4 MMA, 5-0 UFC) at next month’s UFC 82 event.

“There will be a fight of Anderson Silva against Dan Henderson that will be a great fight, and if Dan Henderson wins it, I don’t think twice about lowering my weight to fight him,” Silva wrote (and translated from Portuguese to English). “Everybody is talking about Jardine, but nothing has been made official,” Silva wrote. “I think it would be a good opponent because his style matches with mine, and certainly, no one would be a better choice to be my next opponent.“

Joe Riggs at Strikeforce in Tacoma Wa this Weekend
Joe Riggs is the newest and I would say one of the the most valid fighters on the card. Link for all fights this weekend http://www.strikeforceusa.net/matchups.asp tickets $35, 75, 150, 300. I am thinking $35 and make my way down out of the nosebleeds, Tacoma Dome seems like a crappy venue for MMA, I like the smaller, steeper arenas like Seattle Key Arena or Everett Event center

Silva To Middleweight This Year?
(mmaweekly.com)
Although nothing is official yet, there are now rumors that Wanderlei Silva is considering dropping to Middleweight, fueled largely by the desire for a rematch with PRIDE Welterweight Champion Dan Henderson, the man who beat Wanderlei in their final PRIDE fight. Such a move likely wouldn't happen before May.

Undisputed
(ufc.com)
For the second time in six months, the stage is set to definitively answer one of the fundamental questions burning in the collective minds of middleweight fight fans worldwide: who is the real champion? At UFC 82, reigning UFC 185-lb champion Anderson Silva will face reigning PRIDE 183-lb champion Dan Henderson to end the debate, at least for now, as to who is the unchallenged ruler of the mixed martial arts middleweight kingdom. Silva is on the verge of the most successful middleweight championship run in UFC history. His March 1 unification fight will be the third defense of his title. If successful, he will break his current tie with former champion Rich Franklin and set a new standard against which all future middleweight champions will be measured. Henderson is the only 183-lb champion that PRIDE has ever known, winning the title by defeating Murilo Bustamante at PRIDE Shockwave 2005. Two years later, Hendo shocked the word by savagely knocking out then-205-lb champion Wanderlei Silva to become the only simultaneous two-division champion that the sport has ever known.

Report: UFC 81 Registers 650,000 PPV “Buys”
(mmajunkie.com)
UFC 81 event that took place earlier this month and featured Brock Lesnar’s highly marketed UFC debut has registered approximately 650,000 pay-per-view “buys,” according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer. Just prior to UFC 81, the UFC increased the price of its stand-definition pay-per-view broadcasts from $39.95 to $44.95. Although a small number of additional buys will trickle in (cable systems have a taped version of the broadcast available for purchase), Meltzer reports that the event will be third-highest-grossing event in UFC history — behind only December 2006’s UFC 66 event (Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz II) and July 2006’s UFC 61 event (Tito Ortiz vs. Ken Shamrock II).
