Silva, Henderson and Leben Earn “Fight Night” Bonuses
Anderson Silva earned $120,000 in “fight night” bonuses in the wake of his second-round submission victory over Dan Henderson on Saturday. The fight capped off UFC 82, which took place at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Silva earned $60,000 for Fight of the Night (Henderson also picked up a $60,000 bonus) and $60,000 for Submission of the Night. Chris Leben, meanwhile, earned a $60,000 Knockout of the Night bonus for his first-round TKO of Alessio Sakara. Both fights took place on the night’s televised main card. UFC president Dana White released the bonus winners and amounts in a post-event press conference. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed the amounts with the Dayton Daily News. Silva defended his UFC middleweight title by securing a second-round rear-naked choke of Henderson, PRIDE’s reigning 183-lb. The victory was Silva’s first career submission victory that didn’t come via strikes. Silva joins just a handful of fighters, including Marcus Davis and John Koppenhaver, who have picked up two “fight night” bonuses in one event.

UFC Hall-of-Famer Mark Coleman vs. Brock Lesnar Set for August
Mark Coleman’s (15-8 MMA, 6-3 UFC) induction into the UFC Hall of Fame came with an interesting footnote: he’s returning to the UFC to fight Brock Lesnar (1-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) in August. Just a few hours after the former Ohio State national wrestling champion and first-ever UFC heavyweight title-holder became the fifth fighter inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame, the 43-year-old fighter confirmed the bout to a sold-out crowd and pay-per-view audience.

Mark Coleman – “The Hammer” Enters the UFC Hall of Fame
The next time you watch a UFC event and see a fighter score a double-leg takedown, proceed to change position effortlessly and then ground and pound his opponent out, you can rest assured that Mark Coleman had something to do with it. A mixed martial arts pioneer who won the UFC 10 and UFC 11 tournaments and became the first UFC Heavyweight Champion in 1997, Coleman – who was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame Saturday night in Columbus during the UFC 82 card – has probably influenced the style of more fighters than anyone ever to grace the Octagon.

Anderson Silva by the numbers
The description most fitting when talking about Anderson Silva – aside from “underappreciated dancer” – is simply, “dominant.” Silva has burst onto the UFC stage with a level of dominance rarely seen at this level of MMA. The folks who questioned whether he deserved a title shot in his second UFC bout are probably feeling a little foolish by now The FightMetric system uses a stat called TPR (Total Performance Rating) to measure the quality of a fighter’s performance based on six statistical components (it’s like the NFL’s Passer Rating for QB’s). Scored on a scale between 0-100, the average score for a fight winner is 55. Since his loss to Ryo Chonan more than three years ago, Silva’s average TPR across nine fights is 88 with his opponents scoring an average TPR of 19. The sport has not seen dominance like this since Pride stopped feeding Wanderlei Silva a steady diet of undersized Japanese sacrificial lambs. With his match this Saturday against Dan Henderson posing his greatest challenge to date, FightMetric has analyzed every fight in Anderson Silva’s career to glean insight into how his historical performance might shed light on the upcoming match-up.

Anderson Silva is the new Mike Tyson
It started with a kick to the head. Then a wicked three-punch combo and soon another powerful kick, then a right cross, then a crushing upper cut and then finally an absolutely vicious knee to the face. Chris Leben had entered the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s caged octagon in June 2006 boasting a promising future, a 15-1 record and a granite chin. Forty-nine seconds later he was knocked out by Anderson Silva. The Brazilian, making his UFC debut, had unleashed an explosion of violence so impressive it managed to shock a sport built on explosions of violence. “I must have said Holy (expletive) 15 times in 49 seconds,” said Dana White, the UFC president.

Joe Rogan: love him or hate him, he is no act
IMO joe rogan is first and foremost a fan of the sport and not a Dana puppet. if you ever see him in other videos unrelated to MMA he truly does not care about what other people think about him and will not censor himself or filter his opinions to sound appropriate and meet the expectations of anybody he is a true ambassador of the sport, and and an outspoken individual to say the least War Joe Rogan

Andrei Arlovski Discusses UFC 82 — An MMAjunkie.com Interview
Saturday’s UFC 82 event marks former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski’s first fight in nearly 11 months. The big question is whether it’ll be his last one in the organization. With just one bout remaining on his current UFC contract, Arlovski becomes a free agent after tomorrow’s fight with Jake O’Brien. And while there’s been a lot of speculation about a potential rift between the UFC and Arlovski’s management team, neither side has confirmed it lately. In fact, during Wednesday’s pre-UFC 82 press conference, UFC president Dana White was asked about Arlovski and his whether he’ll re-sign with the organization. Did the UFC’s head honcho want to tag the heavyweight fighter with a parting shot? Not so much. “Andrei is a guy we want (in the UFC),” White said. “I think we’ll get it done.“ Arlovski is sure to have plenty of suitors, but it appears the UFC isn’t willing to let him go so easily.

Anderson Silva – The Quiet Man Speaks Loudly in the Octagon
It would be a fight no stadium could hold, no pay-per-view system could handle. Anderson Silva, the UFC middleweight champion and the man many believe is the best fighter on the planet, pound for pound, would finally be squaring off against the only person he has ever professed an interest in fighting… His clone.

Dan Henderson – The Drive for More
War. It’s what Dan Henderson expects every time the bell rings. Whether he’s fighting you, me, or Anderson Silva, the PRIDE 183-pound champion doesn’t look at opponents as tougher or easier – they’re all the same to him. They’re all out for the same thing he is, so the only way he can ensure that he gets to the finish line first is by working harder, drilling more times, and preparing for the worst.

Dan Henderson is one of the most seasoned fighters in mixed martial arts. The two-time Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling team member has been wrestling since the age of five and has fought in the most prominent mixed martial arts promotions in the world, obtaining both the Pride middleweight and welterweight championships. At UFC 82: Pride of a Champion, Henderson will get the opportunity to add another belt to his collection when he takes on reigning UFC middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva. Here is a breakdown of what Henderson brings to the Octagon against Silva... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- what do you guys think of their right up on Dan Henderson? The only thing i would like to add to the discussion would be that the two guys who were able to submit henderson gave Silva his blackbelt...just something to add under the submission aspect of this fight.

Chris Wilson - Thinking Upset on Saturday
“Nobody expects me to win,” said Wilson in a tone mixing disbelief and laughter. “I don’t get it; I know how to fight, I come from Team Quest, it’s a great camp, I have an Olympic Silver medalist to train with every single day in Matt Lindland, I train with Ed Herman and Ryan Schultz and these guys go out and put beatdowns on people all the time. He does have one of the best camps behind him. My money is still on Fitch though.
