UFC Quick Quote: Thiago Alves is going to knock Georges St. Pierre out
“It’ll be a great fight. I’m very excited, I can’t wait … It’s going to be great. I saw what he did with BJ Penn and I’ll have to beat him a lot, do my game. I expected and didn’t expect [St. Pierre to dominate Penn] understood? (laughs). I knew he would win, but not this way. He’s much bigger than the BJ, a better athlete, and the sport today, in that level, you have to be the best athlete. I’ll go there to knock him out.”
– Number one welterweight contender Thiago Alves shares his hopes with Tatame.com regarding the outcome of his pending title fight with 170-pound champion Georges St. Pierre. “Rush” recently restored order to a division on the brink of chaos by pummeling BJ Penn at UFC 94 on January 31. Now St. Pierre can focus on business in the welterweight division - most notably Thiago Alves. “Pitbull” has been on a two-year tear, with five of his last seven wins ending by way of (T)KO, including stoppages over ranked opponents Matt Hughes and Karo Parisyan. This one’s going to be fireworks indeed.
Dana: GSP Victim Of A Stupid Cornerman At UFC 94
In the latest chapter today of "Vaseline-Gate", Dana White today appeared on a Boston-area radio station to further discuss the incident. White said he thought GSP didn't cheat, was the victim of a bad cornerman, and also said he wants to make BJ Penn-Kenny Florian ASAP, and in Massachusetts if laws permit.
Rashad Not Worried About Machida
"I'm not scared," Evans chuckled when asked if he was afraid of the No. 1 contender for his title. "Machida is tough. I gotta lot of respect for him but I'm gonna win."
But what about the fact that "The Dragon" just took out previously unbeaten Thiago Silva inside of a minute?
"His strategy going into that fight was all wrong," said Evans. "He probably just didn't have the tools to match Machida. Machida is clever man, that dude is tough."
Alistair Overeem vs. The World
Always one to consider his options, the 6' 5? powerhouse is currently in talks with every major fighting organization in the business.
“My management is talking with the UFC, K-1, Dream, Strikeforce and Affliction but there is no deal as of yet,” said Overeem. “I’m in no rush because I still have 2 fights on my Dream contract.”
Nate Diaz feels like he whooped Clay Guida’s ass
“I know I lost the decision in the minds of the judges but I really felt I was whooping his ass the whole fight and he was just holding me. Before the fight people were asking me about his pace and if I would be able to keep up with it. I felt he couldn’t keep up with my pace and that’s why he was trying to slow things down by holding on and not trying anything. I even gave him my back so he would try to do something besides hugging me. A couple of times I looked at the ref to ask him if he wanted us to fight or what? Sorry I didn’t listen to my corner and stand with him more but I never thought he would be so happy to just stall like that.”
Dana White Talks P4P & Superfights
"I still wouldn't call (St. Pierre) pound-for pound the best in the world. But I would say, yea, he's No. 2. No doubt about it," said the high profile president of the UFC. "Anderson Silva has been annihilating everybody for a long time. Georges has some work to do now.
"If Georges takes out Thiago Alves, he's on his way," added White. "The pound-for-pound to me, I would say Georges St. Pierre would be neck-and-neck with Anderson had he not lost to Matt Serra."

Interesting to see how out of proportion the vaseline thing goes, we can see Liddell talking to Dana and then Dana spoke to Rashad and the Crow and was telling that " the cornerman was putting vaseline ALL OVER the back of GSP " what a joke, i guess Liddell lost a **** load of cash on BJ !!
I am sure Dana took a close look at this by now and realized how ridiculous the ALL OVER THE BACK sound.
The Meaning of Lyoto Machida for MMA
This Jordan Breen piece from Sherdog sums up why some of us have been excited about Lyoto Machida all along. After arguing that Georges St Pierre is the culmination of the first era of MMA, the complete fighter of our era, he argues that Machida points to future possibilities for the evolution of the sport:

Mayhem Miller says he's fought a greased up fighter before....
This time an anonymous MEGA arena, in a mega city, in front of a mega crowd, in a mega show, for what was then mega money to me. The stakes are much higher this time, and I had done my best to prepare for this single fight, even going so far as to NOT have a wild sex party the night before the fight, so that I could improve my mental focus. After a rough first round, I met in the center for round 2 and somewhere got taken down. "No biggie, my guard is good, he won't hurt me here, and maybe I can pull off the submission, get a "Dumbass of the Night" award or something. While locked in my tight guard, I noticed that for some reason I was have trouble keeping my opponent's head down. I practiced shirtless with my great training partners, and never had this much trouble keeping a guy from punching me. Was this guy uber strong or something? No exactly. After a couple more stiff elbows to my grillpiece, I felt the familiar slick that I would get every day at kickboxing practice on my nose and eyes, only it was on my opponents neck, now up 2 rounds, Vaseline!
NSAC Comments on Vaseline Controversy
The sweat had not yet dried when accusations began to fly against welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre after his lopsided victory against B.J. Penn in the UFC 94 main event on Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Not long after his win, St. Pierre and his corner, including trainer Greg Jackson, came under fire for allegedly using a “greasing” agent between rounds. Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer on Monday confirmed improprieties had occurred in the champion’s corner after the first and second rounds.
“After the first round, one of my inspectors came to me and told me he thought he saw one of the cornermen -- I believe it was Phil Nurse … after putting Vaseline on [St. Pierre’s] face, he saw him rub his shoulders, and it appeared as though he might not have wiped off his hands,” Kizer said. “After the second round, we observed Mr. Jackson putting Vaseline on Mr. St. Pierre’s face and then putting his hand on his back.”
At that point, Kizer attempted to get Jackson’s attention from outside the cage.
“I don’t think he heard me because of all the noise in the arena, so I immediately walked into the Octagon myself -- I’ve probably done that two other times in my career -- and told him to take his hand off Mr. St. Pierre’s back,” he said. “We took a towel and wiped off his back. After the third round, we went in again and made sure his back and shoulders were wiped off to ensure a level playing field.”
Kizer informed Penn’s camp of the situation after the bout ended. Penn’s manager and brother, J.D., told Sherdog.com on Sunday that the Hawaiian’s camp planned to file a complaint with the NSAC, but, as of Monday afternoon, Kizer had not heard from Penn’s representatives. Penn has 10 days to file...
Saunders Out, McCrory Tapped As Replacement
Another change has been made for UFC's return to Columbus, OH as Ben Saunders has been forced off the card with a foot injury. Tamdan McCrory has been tapped as a replacement to step in and face newcomer, Ryan Madigan, on the show as confirmed to MMAWeekly.com on Monday by sources close to the situation.
Currently sporting a 2-2 record in the Octagon, McCrory steps into this bout after a loss to Dustin Hazelett at UFC 91 in November. Ironically enough he will be facing Ryan Madigan, the fighter who replaced Hazelett when he faced an injury and was unable to fight on the card.
UFC 94 Medical Suspensions
The NSAC has just announced the medical suspensions from UFC 94. 4 fighters have been suspended until March, while Chris Wilson got a suspension until July for a broken nose but can be cleared early.
