BAM! Matt Hamill reacts to knockout of Mark Munoz at UFC 96
(mmamania.com)
I had to step back and think about what I was doing. I needed to get my kick — I had been doing a couple of kicks. Finally, I saw that Mark was bringing his hands down and I’m waiting for the right spot and the right time. Then BAM!” Former contestant on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), Matt Hamill, channels Emeril Lagasse when discussing the show-stealing (and surprising) knockout of Mark Munoz via head kick at UFC 96: “Jackson vs. Jardine” last night from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Not So Fast: Rampage-Rashad NOT YET Official For 98
(mmaweekly.com)
Although word going around last night was that Quinton Jackson vs. Rashad Evans is set for UFC 98, it is, in fact, not. Jackson needs a couple days and also to make sure he'll be 100% for the late-May fight, but if he isn't Dana White has a backup plan: Ryoto (Lyoto) Machida.

Carwin proves he’s the real deal
(sports.yahoo.com)
Shane Carwin might be the only athlete these days who can say he tested positive and it is a good thing. The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s powerful heavyweight contender, who vaulted himself among the elite of the sport with a dramatic first-round knockout of Gabriel Gonzaga on Saturday at UFC 96 at Nationwide Arena, had his DNA tested recently to compile an athletic profile. Of nearly 500 athletes, including 50 Olympians, tested by Canadian company Warrior Roots, Carwin was one of the three highest-scoring for explosiveness.

UFC 96 draws 17,033 spectators for a $1.8 million gate
(mmajunkie.com)
Despite a main event that lacked in promotional power, UFC 96 drew 17,033 spectators to Nationwide Arena on Saturday night for a gate of $1.8 million, UFC president Dana White said. For the third consecutive year, the UFC's Columbus show coincided with the Arnold Sports Festival, a three-day sports and fitness exhibition held in downtown Columbus. "I heard on the radio today that between [the Artnold] and the UFC, we brought $41 million into Columbus this weekend," White said in the post-UFC 96 press conference. "So obviously in these hard economic times, coming in here and doing huge numbers like that (is impressive)."

Jackson on Evans at UFC 98
(bloodyelbow.com)
"At the press conference, Jackson said he didn't know about the fight with Rashad Evans being moved up to May 23 until 15 minutes before he got out...He was clearly not thrilled about it. Dana White said they would wait a few days to give Jackson a chance to assess how he felt coming out of a tough fight and noted if Jackson turned it down, that Machida had already verbally accepted."

After successful surgery, Joe Lauzon’s recovery timetable could be shortened
(fiveouncesofpain.com)
Joe Lauzon posted a blog Friday afternoon on his personal website in which he revealed that his recent knee surgery was a success and that he may be back in as little as six months as opposed to the original 12-14 month timetable that was originally reported. Apparently the doctors were able to repair the meniscus instead of removing it. Lauzon also claimed that he had his ACL replaced and was given a “nerve block” for his entire leg.

UFC newcomer Ryan Madigan comfortable with quick trip to big time
(mmajunkie.com)
Just six fights into his mixed martial arts career, Ryan Madigan (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) might not seem like the most likely addition to the UFC roster. Despite the limited experience, the 31-year-old will be facing Tamdan McCrory (10-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) on the preliminary card of Saturday night's UFC 96 event in Columbus, Ohio. And as Madigan recently told TAGG Radio (www.taggradio.com), the official radio partner of MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), he thinks the timing is just fine.

UPDATE: Frank Mir will *STILL* fight Brock Lesnar...
(sports.yahoo.com)

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The heavyweight title unification bout between champion Brock Lesnar and interim champ Frank Mir at UFC 98 on May 23 remains on despite arthroscopic surgery performed on Mir’s right knee earlier this week. Fiveouncesofpain.com initially reported Friday that the bout was off because of a back injury sustained by Mir. It later corrected that to say it was a knee injury. And then MMAWeekly.com reported Mir had knee surgery.
