Shoulder Injury Forces Penn from UFC 132
One week after Jon Fitch dropped out of their scheduled UFC 132 rematch due to injury, B.J. Penn on Friday announced that he has also canceled his travel plans.
Speaking in a video on BJPenn.com entitled “Why I opted to pull out of UFC 132,” Penn explained that he suffered a serious shoulder injury prior to his meeting with Fitch at UFC 127.
“Of course, pushing my shoulder really hard during the Jon Fitch fight hurt my shoulder more,” said Penn. “I came back and tried to train, but every time I would train hard, it would just be really inflamed. I couldn’t even move it. Did an MRI, [but] I wanna keep some of that information confidential.”
“I need about six to eight weeks to take it easy on my shoulder, let it rest,” Penn explained. “If Jon Fitch is ready, we can do it soon, or I’ll take a new opponent.”
As a result of the injury, Penn will no longer compete on July 2 at UFC 132, which goes down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and is headlined by a bantamweight title bout between champion Dominick Cruz and the only man to ever beat him, Urijah Faber.
With Jon Fitch hurt, B.J. Penn won't fight at UFC 132 in July
B.J. Penn (16-7-2 MMA, 12-6-2 UFC) will not fight at UFC 132.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has confirmed with sources close to the Hawaiian that the UFC is not currently seeking an opponent for Penn, and "The Prodigy" will instead return to action at a later date.
Penn had been expected to take part in a rematch at the July 2 event with Jon Fitch (23-3-1 MMA, 13-1-1 UFC), but the perennial welterweight contender in March was forced to withdraw from the bout with a shoulder injury.
Tireless Mark Munoz constantly juggling as he preps for Demian Maia at UFC 131
He fought four times in the UFC in 2010, and he's on track to do so again this year. He runs his own gym, and he runs wrestling camps. He has a wife and four kids, and the events that follow in their lives. His cell phone rings constantly.
This is the way he likes it. Or maybe better put: this is the only thing he knows. Keep on going. Don't look back and don't look too far forward.
Thiago Silva fined, license revoked for failed drug test
Looks like Thiago Silva pissed away more than just an opportunity.
The UFC light heavyweight contender was recently popped by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for submitting a urine sample that was "inconsistent with that of a human" following his unanimous decision win over Brandon Vera at UFC 125 back on Jan. 1.
And although he initially maintained his innocence following the incident, he eventually came clean and decided to accept the consequences for his actions.
UFC: Rio Teaser Video Featuring Royce Gracie and the Top Brazilian Fighters
The UFC just released their first promotional video for UFC: Rio, happening on August 27, in Rio de Janeiro's HSBC Arena. This will be the second time the company heads to Brazil, with their maiden voyage happening back in 1998. The short teaser had this brief message, originally in Portugese:
The UFC is coming to Brazil, where the fighters are produced, and the champions are forged.
The video featured Brazil's top UFC fighters such as Vitor Belfort, Jose Aldo, Wanderlei Silva, Mauricio Rua, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Thiago Alves, Junior dos Santos, Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, and of course, UFC Hall-of-Famer, Royce Gracie. While it's almost impossible for all of them to be on the card, they have all expressed interest in fighting on their home country. This of course includes the original "Ultimate Fighter" in Royce Gracie, who at 44-years-old, is still trying to negotiate with Dana White to get him on the card.

Return of the Dragon: Alex “Bruce Leroy” Caceres Will Get Another Shot in the UFC
When Alex “Bruce Leroy” Caceres made the trip to Seattle for his fight against Mackens Semerzier, he had all the right confidence heading into the fight.
The former “Ultimate Fighter” competitor made the drop to 145lbs, which was a more natural weight class. He had been working with the Renzo Gracie academy to get him ready for the fight. He even had Taimak, the original Bruce Leroy from the film “The Last Dragon” in his corner.
Bud Light renews UFC sponsorship and brings 'Battle on the Bayou' to Spike TV on Sept. 17 in New Orleans

To celebrate, Brock Lesnar is going home to get on top of his wife.
The new agreement with Bud Light means more to fans than just a few well-placed logos and witty commercial spots. In fact, the boys at Anheuser-Busch will bring one special promotional event per year, beginning on Sept. 17, 2011, with a live event in New Orleans airing on Spike TV.
