"UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch" in Australia equals fastest sellout in UFC history
UFC president Dana White long has labeled Canada as a "mecca of a mixed martial arts," but Australia doesn't appear to be too far behind.
UFC officials today announced that tickets for the promotion's return to Australia at UFC 127 sold out in just 30 minutes, equaling a record set this past June at UFC 115 in Canada.
"UFC 127: Penn vs. Fitch" takes place Feb. 27 at Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. The same venue also hosted the UFC's Australian debut, UFC 110, which took place this past February.
"We're ecstatic," UFC exec Marshall Zelaznik stated in today's release. "Tickets sold out literally as quickly as the Ticketek phone lines and website would allow, and that's despite us working with our partners at Acer to add an extra 600 seats to the in-arena configuration we had at UFC 110.
UFC 129 Expected To Set Attendance Records, 2 Title Fights Possible
t was a long time in the making, but the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s debut event in Toronto is now set, at least everything but the fight card. The promotion’s first even in Canada’s largest city, originally dubbed UFC 131, has been renamed UFC 129. It will take place at the Rogers Centre, formerly the Sky Dome, on April 30, 2011. The UFC has its sights set on breaking it’s own North American mixed martial arts attendance record, set at the recent UFC 124 in Montreal at 23,152, but isn’t likely to come anywhere near the arena record held by WWE (over 68,000). That is more a matter of choice than lack of ability according to promotion officials. They're talking about 25,000-40,000 as a likely number. As mentioned, the UFC 129 fight card is yet to be set. Speculation has centered on UFC welterweight champion and countryman Georges St-Pierre defending his belt against Jake Shields in Toronto, as well as the possibility of a heavyweight title tilt between champion Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos.

A relatively short but disheartening article.

Rep: Randy Couture Retirement Announcement Premature
UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture dropped a bomb online Tuesday evening when he suddenly announced that he is calling it quits on an MMA career that's spanned 13 years, 29 fights and two titles. "I think I'm at the end of it y'all," Couture wrote on his official Twitter account, which has just under 70,000 followers. "It's time." "It's time to move on and focus on all the other amazing things going on in my life," he added on his Facebook account.
