What does Evans Vs Silva mean for the lhw division
When Rashad Evans meets Thiago Silva next week in the UFC 108 headliner, he knows both contenders are fighting for the same thing.
They both a want a shot to avenge an earlier loss while striking gold in the light-heavyweight division, which is currently ruled by champion Lyoto Machida.
"It's like a race for who gets back to Machida," Evans said.
Machida knocked out Silva in January and then stopped then-champ Evans in his next bout to claim the 205-pound title. Since then, the undefeated Brazilian has defended his belt against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and now ranks among the world's top pound-for-pound best.
So what can we expect from Evans vs. Silva?
Baroni plans time off, return unknown
33-year-old welterweight Phil Baroni is in Hawaii and planning to take time off from competition to rest and evaluate a new approach to MMA.
Despite several reports, Baroni said he has not agreed to fight Marcus Davis at UFC 111 on March 27 in Newark, N.J.
The Long Island, N.Y. native said he wanted to move from his adopted home of Las Vegas to experience different training camps, most notably, a possible permanent move to San Jose, Calif. for a permanent residence with American Kickboxing Academy. In the past, Baroni has trained often with the camp for hard sparring.
Slugfest Alert: Baroni vs. Davis Reported for UFC 111
What do you do when you have two guys who can't win big fights but who always put on entertaining matches? Throw 'em in a cage together and hope for a Fight of the Night, obviously. Former Champion Evans Starts Comebck Trail Against Silva
Like training partner Georges St-Pierre before him, Rashad Evans has learned firsthand the difference between winning a title and keeping it.
It's a painful lesson. But one that St-Pierre has used to make himself a better mixed martial arts fighter.
Some seven months after losing the UFC light-heavyweight championship to Lyoto Machida in his first title defence at UFC 98, Evans returns to the cage at UFC 108 looking to prove that, having picked himself off the floor, he is a better man for it.

Matt Hughes Predicts the Demise of Strikeforce
Hughes makes vague reference to Showtime’s interference in the process, and seems to believe that this will be Strikeforce’s undoing, sooner rather than later. Wrote Hughes:
Last week I was in California with Robbie, Pena, and Foster, hoping they would find a replacement so Robbie could fight. It didn’t happen and I guess I’m just spoiled being with the UFC. From what I understand, Showtime really likes to stick their nose in Strikeforce’s business and because of that I don’t think that Strikeforce will be around for much longer; but enough with that.
