Thiago Tavares will drop to the featherweight division for his next bout in the UFC.
Tavares, who revealed his plans to cut 10 pounds for his next fight after a first-round victory over Justin Salas last month, has verbally agreed to meet UFC newcomer Zubair Tuhogov at UFC Fight Night 36 in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil, on Feb. 15. Combate first reported the news.

Miesha Tate‘s busy stretch will continue on Saturday when she gets behind the microphone for Invicta Fighting Championships.
Tate, the former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion, will serve as a guest analyst at Invicta FC 7 alongside play-by-play voice Michael Schaivello and color commentator Muhammed Lawal, promotion officials on Monday announced.

Before she took the coaching stint on The Ultimate Fighter 18, it felt as though she could literally do no wrong. Rousey was the first women’s UFC champion. She was on glossy magazine covers and became the apple of many media outlet’s eye. There were movie roles to mull over, and sponsors, and television appearances -- the basic spoils of sudden stardom, which she coyly embraced. I called her the Royce Gracie of women’s MMA before she fought Liz Carmouche at UFC 157, because it felt like she was pioneering a movement for future generations.
Then she showed up to Vegas and, instead of finding Cat Zingano, whom she was supposed to spend the next six weeks with, there was Miesha Tate, her arch-nemesis with batting eyes like the purring cat that swallowed the canary.
This somewhat sadistic -- and perhaps unfair -- surprise was all it took to curdle the milk...
New UFC network to stream UFC Fight Night 34, UFC European Tour in London
The new year will bring a new online distribution platform for the UFC. Officials from the largest MMA promotion soon will announce a new subscription-based digital network.
UFC officials confirmed their plans to USA TODAY Sports and MMAjunkie, and a formal announcement will be scheduled later this month.
“The UFC has always been ahead of the game in the digital world,” UFC co-owner and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta said. “The UFC was the first major sporting organization to embrace social media and the first to offer live pay-per-view events across multiple digital platforms. The new digital network continues that tradition of innovation, bringing unrivaled choice to UFC fans.”
While UFC officials would not reveal an expected pricing structure for the platform, the network will feature live and on-demand programming, including more than a dozen live fight cards beginning with UFC Fight Night 34 on Jan. 4 at Singapore’s Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre...
