White: Mark Hunt earns title shot with UFC 160 knockout of Junior dos Santos
(mmajunkie.com)
MONTREAL – The man who the UFC once tried to pay not to fight may soon find himself competing for the promotion's heavyweight title. Following today's UFC 158 pre-event presser in Montreal, UFC President Dana White told a group of reporters that should Mark Hunt (9-7 MMA, 4-1 UFC) score a knockout win over former champ Junior dos Santos (15-2 MMA, 9-1 UFC) at May's UFC 160 event, "The Super Samoan" would likely earn himself a UFC title shot. "How is this guy not next in line?" White asked.

Dana White: UFC 'probably' will cut Nick Diaz if he fails UFC 158 drug test
(mmajunkie.com)
MONTREAL – UFC President Dana White said the organization "probably" will cut Nick Diaz if the title challenger fails his drug test at Saturday's UFC 158 event. White laid out the scenario following today's UFC 158 press conference at Montreal's Bell Centre, which also hosts this weekend's pay-per-view title fight between Diaz (26-8 MMA, 7-5 UFC) and UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre (23-2 MMA, 17-2 UFC). Diaz, who attended the press conference after no-showing Wednesday's open workouts, addressed the topic of drug tests during the media event. The fighter, who recently concluded a yearlong suspension after a second failed drug test due to marijuana, suggested he's taking extra precautions to assure he doesn't fail a third test.

Johny Hendricks isn't going to be a douchebag and trash talk himself into a title fight like Nick Diaz
(mmamania.com)
I haven't heard much about all the fights Diaz has won or how he tore through the rest of the division to get his crack at the crown. But why get caught up in details at this point? Diaz has talked his way into a title shot while Johny Hendricks, who already beat two former number one contenders during his five-fight winning streak (with three violent finishes) settles for Carlos Condit. "Bigg Rigg" explains why (via Fight World): "I don't trash talk because I have too much respect for everybody. But, there is a point in time where enough is enough. If I get through Carlos Condit, [Georges St. Pierre] has nothing to stand on - he can't go after anyone else except for me and I can't wait for that day. I can trash talk, but I don't know GSP. I can say he is this, this, this and this, but it doesn't mean it's true. Know what I mean? I could easily do that, but I don't want to be that kind of douchebag. His main little quote is, 'You've never faced anyone like me.' Bullshit. You've never face anyone like ME, that's why he didn't want to take the fight." A lot of mixed martial arts (MMA) fans think Hendricks is full of hot air. Some fighters do, too, including Nick Diaz, who told media members he didn't think anyone wanted to see St. Pierre fight the bearded brawler, which gave Hendricks the impression that Diaz isn't much of an MMA fan. "Obviously, [Nick Diaz] has never seen me fight, because I knock people out. What does Diaz do? He talks trash, throws his hands up and that's it. I knock people out. When's the last time any of you have seen me use my wrestling? Six, seven fights ago? I used it a little bit on Josh Koscheck, but not much. That's one of my attributes that nobody's seen. For him to say [nobody wants to see Hendricks vs. GSP], he's not an MMA fan."

Rory MacDonald reinjured; trainer says UFC welterweight won't rush back again
(mmajunkie.com)
MONTREAL – Saturday could have been Rory MacDonald's coming-out party. Instead, he'll be watching UFC 158 from the seats. MacDonald (14-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) was supposed to fight Carlos Condit (28-6 MMA, 5-2 UFC) in a rematch at UFC 158, which takes place at Bell Centre in Montreal, MacDonald's home training ground. But a neck injury took him out of the fight – and now he will be sidelined longer than hoped after aggravating the injury by returning to training too quickly. Canada's Sportsnet first reported the development, and Tristar Gym head Firas Zahabi on Wednesday confirmed MacDonald's reinjury to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

UFC Quick Quote: 'Stefan Struve really needs to think about retiring'
(mmamania.com)
UFC Heavyweight Stefan Struve hasn't even hit his prime and it may already be time to hang up his gloves for good. Outspoken fight physician Dr. Johnny Benjamin explains why. "Many people think, and Stefan will probably think, 'The doctor said I'm good to go, so I'll get right back in the gym and go at it,' but, even though we're great at healing bones, it's not so easy to heal the brain. How many times has he been knocked out? I know he's a young man, but he's been knocked out more than a few times. At some point, someone really needs to ask the question, should he still be fighting? That many concussions, so quickly, and at this young age ... a person has two types of age, chronological and physiologic age. Stefan's license may say he's 25, but in physiologic years, he's much, much older than that, with all the concussive force that he's sustained. I'm sure nobody will like to hear this, but Stefan Struve really needs to think about retiring. If it's not him that will make that decision, then Dana White needs to start talking to him about retiring. The question out there is how many sustained concussions is too many, and according to the latest literature that's coming out, the answer is starting to look like it's somewhere between two and three. That's where you start having permanent changes. Knowing that data, Stefan is definitely beyond that number, and someone really needs to initiate serious discussion with either him or his promoter that he probably needs to do something else for a living."
