UK UFC fans - TV deal likely to be BT Sports
I truly hope this is not where the UFC are heading. With ESPN already messing up UFC time slots and interrupting many broadcasts over the past few months not to mention missing fights due to overlays of other programmes, i cannot help but think a company like BT sports is the wrong direction to go.
If any of you guys have a Sky subscription like me, then you are already gonna be in the know that Sky are ending their ESPN partnership as of 31st July 2013 which is just over two weeks before the UFC's contract expires with ESPN too.
I apologize in advance if this topic has already been posted. As a fan i have concerns as i am sure many of the UK fan base would have too. If anyone has any thoughts or any new information regarding a TV deal in the UK please post up on here.
Jon Jones toe wasn't actually broken, Champ will be ready for action in 6-8 weeks
Despite initial assumptions that Jon Jones suffered a compound fracture of his left big toe during his UFC 159title defense against Chael Sonnen, the injury was later determined to be a dislocation. (You know, kind of like how Miesha Tate didn’t actually get her arm snapped in half by Ronda Rousey, despite all visual evidence to the contrary.) Dr. Robert Klapper, Chief Orthopedic Surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, appeared on yesterday’s installment of UFC Tonight to explain Jones’s injury, and give his insight on the recovery process, which doesn’t sound so bad, considering how ugly things looked on Saturday.
Hours before UFC 159 win, Steven Siler's wife dropped a bombshell
Just hours before Steven Siler's rousing win at UFC 159 that moved him to 4-1 in the organization, his wife dropped a bombshell.
After eight months of trying, the 26-year-old learned he and his better half will have their first child.
"I was happy the whole week," he told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) after the event. "I had a smile that never left my face, and even [that] morning, I found out my wife is pregnant after trying for eight months. That lifted me right back up.
Demian Maia vs. Josh Koscheck announced for UFC 163
The next step has been laid in Demian Maia's quest for a welterweight title shot. The phenom-grappler, and former middleweight title contender, is scheduled to face Josh Koscheck at UFC 163 in August. While some may see this as a wasted fight for Maia it has the potential to provide real clarity to a murky top-ten at welterweight.
Since dropping weight last July Maia has been on a tear, with dominant victories over Dong Hyun Kim, Rick Story, and Jon Fitch. Despite his success, his place in the division is still a little unclear. With Fitch released and Kim and Story both near, but not quite in, the top ten of the division, Maia feels somewhat still in need of validation. Enter Josh Koscheck.
UFC's Robbie Peralta suspended for marijuana, must undergo treatment
All competitors at UFC on FUEL TV 9 were tested for performance-enhancing drugs and drugs of abuse, and one failed for the latter.
The UFC confirmed Tuesday night that featherweight Robbie Peralta was flagged for marijuana metabolites and suspended following the event, which took place April 6 at Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm.
Peralta (16-4 MMA, 2-1 UFC) dropped a unanimous decision to Akira Corassani (11-3 MMA, 2-0 UFC) on the event's main-card, which aired on FUEL TV.
UFC Releases 7 fighters
Make no mistake about it, just because you receive a UFC contract doesn’t mean the promotion is going to keep you around if you under-perform.
Such is the case with many fighters, be them fan favorites or not. You want to keep your job as a fighter for the world’s largest fight promotion, you better win.
Which is why the UFC has recently released seven fighters who are all coming off losses inside the cage.
Phil Defries, Chris Spang, Jimmy Quinlan, Collin Hart, Kevin Casey, Gilbert Smith and Adam Cella were all released by the UFC within the last week.
While Quinlan, Hart, Casey, Smith and Cella were one-and-done following post-TUF 17 losses, Spang, a Strikeforce import was also released after his UFC debut loss at UFC on FUEL TV 9.
De Fries, went 2-3 inside the UFC’s heavyweight division, most recently suffering a quick KO loss to Matt Mitrione at UFC on FUEL TV 9.
