Joe Lauzon Interview
Excerpt: Adam Morgan: Yeah, I saw you had some pictures posted up on The Underground Forum where it said you were at roughly 185 about 48 hours out from the fight. Is that true? Joe Lauzon: That was a big joke. My brother and my roommate Brandon were in the hotel lobby and they heard Reinhardt was getting a little scared, you know, “Joe’s running around at 185! He’s so big!” and all this other stuff. So they started talking like “Oh, I can’t believe Joe’s 185. It’ll be a tough cut but he’ll make it.” So we just sort of ran with it to play on his paranoia a little bit. Too funny

Penn Gets Probation, UFC 80 Match Still On
BJ Penn was sentenced yesterday to 1 year probation for charges of assault on a police officer related to an incident in Hawaii 2 years ago. The judge will allow Penn to travel to England in January for UFC 80, so his Lightweight Title fight against Joe Stevenson will not be affected.

Sherk calls BJ Penn a "Punk"
SS:" I think BJ Penn is a punk. Who the hell is he? He's won one fight in a couple of years now and it's just whatever man. He wants to make all of these rules and regulations, but who the hell is he? I'm the champ in my eyes so I don't care if he fights me or not, there's a whole bunch of guys that could fight me right now. It's his loss, not mine. He needs me more than I need him." My opinion is that he will probably get to fight a whole bunch of guys, he just might not be fighting for or defending the belt. I think he definately got screwed, but that's just the way it goes sometimes.

UFC.com Article On Retirement Of "Big" John McCarthy
It was the perfect going away gift for a referee • Saturday’s lightweight war between Roger Huerta and Clay Guida. But like all great ‘third men’, John McCarthy • who retired as an active referee following last weekend’s main event - was noticeable by being noly noticeable, making all the right moves and all the right calls, a fitting end to a 13 year journey that saw McCarthy become as much a part of the UFC as the great fighters who have graced its Octagon. Gonna miss you BJM

Belfort Hoping for Octagon Return
Almost three years have passed since Vitor Belfort last battled in the Octagon. After apparently resurrecting a career that was supposed to have been nothing but great when it began over 11 years ago, Belfort is ready to return to the promotional company that as he puts it, made his legacy. Belfort will meet UFC matchmaker Joe Silva on Wednesday, the Brazilian told Sherdog.com, and is specifically looking to avenge his last bout in the UFC, a split decision loss to Tito Ortiz.

No Bull: 'El Matador' Shines at TUF Finale
The showdown had been billed and labeled as a potential fight of the year candidate. Most mixed martial arts insiders figured the stylistic matchup between lightweights Roger Huerta and Clay Guida was a recipe for fireworks, a guarantee that fans would receive an early Christmas gift. Both Huerta and Guida made the pundits look like experts. In a fight that was as exhilarating as it was dramatic, once-beaten contender Huerta was forced to muster the strength of 10 tigers to score an unbelievable come-from-behind victory early in the third round.

Sean Sherk to keep title. Edit - They have now done the right thing and stripped him of it.
Sean Sherk will keep his title after all. According to Steve Sievert of Brawl Sports, the UFC has confirmed that Sherk will remain their lightweight champion. UFC president Dana White has gone back and forth on whether he would strip Sherk of his title were he to lose his appeal to the NSAC. First, White told Yahoo!Sports' Kevin Iole that Sherk would keep the title regardless of the outcome of his appeal, then a few days later, White backpedelled on those comments stating during a conference call that Sherk would probably be stripped of his title if he were to lose his appeal.

A "Big" Move-McCarthy Retires, Heading To Broadcast Booth
Legendary MMA referee "Big" John McCarthy retired as an official today, ending a 13-year career that began at UFC 2. He will now work as a commentator/broadcaster for The Fight Network, but will continue lending his officiating expertise to the sport. All the best to Big John, he's going to do an excellent job broadcasting but it won't be the same in UFC without "Let's Get It On!" before a couple fights every event.

Rich Franklin vs. Travis Lutter UFC 82?????
If this fight happens it is scheduled to take place on March1st. I was wondering if Lutter was ever going to make a return and I guess he's still on terms with the UFC. I think Rich takes this fight by KO. Any thoughts?

Huerta-Guida: Beauty and the Best
Roger Huerta hasn’t tasted defeat in his last 16 fights, and will always have the claim to fame of being the first mixed martial arts fighter on the cover of Sports Illustrated. But there are two types of stars in MMA. There are those who become stars by winning high-profile matches. And there are those who become stars because of marketability. Like Kimbo Slice, Brock Lesnar, Bob Sapp and Gina Carano, a lot of critics will say Huerta fits into the latter category.

The Sean Sherk Saga: Guilty, Innocent, Garcia's comments
Over at a regular website that I frequent, there is a series of articles chronicling research regarding support on Sherk's nandrolone positive test, an article also looking at the opposite view and research supporting his innocence, and also an article outlining the quotes that Armando Garcia, the CSAC Executive Director, stated during a Sherdog interview. Before reading this, the author states his opinion in the first post, but for sake of analytical argument, presents both sides and allows us to all come up with our own conclusion regarding the situation. The opposite view presents research that COULD support innocence, but toward the end of the article, suggests problems with some of the research that supports innocence. Very good series of articles:

Clay Guida Ready To Swim In The Deep Water
Stepping into the Octagon for the fifth time on Dec. 8, Clay Guida will get his first opportunity to headline an event as he faces Roger Huerta in the main event of the upcoming “Ultimate Fighter” finale show in Las Vegas. This will not be the first time Guida has been in a marquee fight, having faced hometown favorite Josh Thomson at Strikeforce in 2006 in front of one of the largest crowds in mixed martial arts history. “It’s awesome,” he said about his main event fight. “I can’t put it into words. It’s an honor to be a part of the best organization … in the world right now, the most talent I think, with their acquisition of Pride and the WEC as well, and I’m glad to be the focus of the main event.”
