Strikeforce Women’s Tourneys Launch in April

The ladies have not been forgotten.Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said two previously announced eight-woman tournaments, at 135- and 145-pounds, will kick off at the promotion’s Challengers event in April.Strikeforce 145-pound champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and Gina Carano, whom Santos defeated by first-round technical knockout last August in San Jose, Calif., will not compete in the tournaments, said Coker.

Fedor vs. Fabricio Werdum "99% Confirmed" For April 16 On CBS

That's according to Werdum via the TATAME website. April 16 is the next CBS event, but where isn't known yet-rumors are it's Las Vegas but SF has yet to get the necessary promoter's license from the NSAC. They haven't even applied.

Despite the FSBC approving the fight after the original fight was not approved, Strikeforce has announced Bobby Lashley will not face Jimmy Ambriz on 1/30. Ambriz was considered as a replacement opponent after original foe Yohan Banks was not approved by the FSBC.

Florida Commission Approves Bobby Lashley vs Jimmy Ambriz, But Strikeforce Isn't Sure if They Still Want Him

Strikeforce officials had some matchmaking problems when the Florida State Boxing Commission vetoed the original fight between Lashley and Yohan Banks, stating that it was a clear mismatch. Shortly after, they've submitted a new opponent, in the journeyman super heavyweight, Jimmy Ambriz (14-12-1). The commission has approved the bout, but there may still be some issues as Strikeforce might still be considering other options.

Journeyman Jimmy Ambriz has been targeted by the promotion as a late replacement for Banks, and the matchup is now waiting on approval from the FSBC.

Walker to Donate Strikeforce Purse to Charity

22043 Herschel Walker plans to donate his entire purse from his professional mixed martial arts debut to charity. Walker, the 1982 Heisman Trophy winner and 1992 Olympian, will meet Greg Nagy in a featured matchup at Strikeforce “Miami” on Jan. 30 at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla. The soon-to-be 48-year-old will surrender his purse to Project Turnaround, a Dallas-based charity that aims to “rebuild communities from the inside out with a comprehensive, faith-based program designed to improve and enrich the lives of urban youth and families.” “When I decided to fight, it wasn’t anything I was doing for money,” Walker said. “I love competition; I love to compete. It just so happens I was going to get paid. What I wanted to do was help someone else. I’ve been blessed in life through a lot of different things.”

Yohan Banks Not Approved By FSBC, Will Not Face Lashley

With only 2 weeks until his Strikeforce debut, Bobby Lashley now finds himself without an opponent for now. His original planned foe, Yohan Banks, was not approved by the Florida State Boxing Commission, saying the decision to decline Banks as an opponent for Lashley was made based on a review of the fighters' records, at which point the commission "determined that the bout was not competitive." No replacement named yet.

Hendo Says He's Got Shields In April, SF Says Not Yet Official

Although Dan Henderson says his Strikeforce debut will be against Jake Shields in April, Strikeforce officials says the bout is not yet confirmed. No date was given and Hendo also said the fight's at 185, but it's not known if it's for the SF Middleweight Title held by Shields. No comment on the report from Shields' father, who is also his manager.

Herschel Walker on Howard Stern - "I Sleep Four Hours a Day and Only Eat One Meal a Day"

Howard asked Herschel what it means when he says he only sleeps 3 or 4 hours a night. Herschel said he sleeps 4 hours at the most and he only eats one meal a day. He said he doesn't eat meat anymore even though he owns a meat company. He eats salads and soup and bread. He said he does that late at night when he's going to bed.

Former WWE star and collegiate wrestling champion Bobby Lashley (4-0) is likely to make his mixed martial arts debut for the San Jose-based Strikeforce promotion against Yohan Banks (2-1) at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida on Saturday, Jan. 30, according to MMAWeekly. The "Miami" bout has yet to be finalized and is currently awaiting commission approval. "The Dominator," who also moonlights as a "face" for TNA Wrestling, entered the world of cage fighting back in Dec. 2008 as a co-headliner for South Florida's Mixed Fighting Alliance (MFA). The 6'3" powerhouse needed just 41-seconds to extirpate Joshua Franklin via doctor's stoppage.

And they’re not slowing down. Now promotion officials are in talks with two more high profile fighters in Roger Huerta and Josh Barnett.
