Daniel Cormier hopes Frank Mir fight is rescheduled for January Strikeforce show
(mmajunkie.com)
As it stands now, heavyweight grand prix winner Daniel Cormier isn't a lock for Strikeforce's January card. Cormier (10-0 MMA, 7-0 SF) was scheduled to headline a since-canceled Nov. 3 Strikeforce event against UFC import Frank Mir (16-6 MMA, 14-6 UFC), and officials said the next event now is slated for January. Cormier hopes the Mir bout, which will be his final one in Strikeforce before an anticipated move to the UFC, still happens, though. Mir, of course, was forced off the card due to an injury, according to the organization. Following the subsequent loss of co-headliner and middleweight champion Luke Rockhold, Strikeforce and broadcast partner Showtime canceled the show this past week and instead put the focus on the as-yet-unannounced January card. "I don't have an opponent," Cormier told AXS TV's "Inside MMA" on Monday. "But with the two-month delay, hopefully Frank Mir is healed up and ready to go. I haven't been told I'm fighting for sure, but if they're promising a stacked card, I'm hoping I'm one of the guys they look at and you put [me] on the card and it becomes a little bit better."

Kennedy anticipates January fight, possible compensation for canceled Strikeforce event
( mmajunkie.com)
Tim Kennedy admittedly was angry when suspicions that the Nov. 3 card he was scheduled for were confirmed online – before he knew it. But after a receiving a phone call from a Strikeforce executive, the middleweight feels confident the promotion will take care of him and other displaced fighters. "It seems like Zuffa is doing right by us, so I'm grateful for the way they handled it once they had no other choice," Kennedy told MMAjunkie.com.

(bjpenn.com)
Sources close to BJPENN.com informed us just moments ago that Strikeforce operations are set to cease and that the promotion is going out of business. The rumor comes shortly after news broke that Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold (10-1 MMA, 9-0 SF) was forced to pull out of his title fight with Lorenz Larkin (13-0 MMA, 4-0 SF) due to a wrist injury. The middleweight title fight was the second key loss to a scheduled November 3rd card, following the loss of a heavyweight main event bout between Frank Mir and Daniel Cormier.

Sara McMann injured, also off November 3rd Strikeforce card
(bloodyelbow.com)
The injury bug has fully engulfed Strikeforce's November 3rd show, as Sara McMann, who came into Strikeforce as a potential threat to bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, is now out of her fight against Liz Carmouche. It's become almost comical at this point, as all of their major fights for this Oklahoma show have gone by the wayside. MMA Weekly confirmed the news: Sources close to the situation confirmed with MMAWeekly.com on Monday that McMann is out of her scheduled fight against Liz Carmouche. The details regarding McMann’s injury was not disclosed, but she will be unable to compete at the upcoming Strikeforce card in November. What can you say? No more Mir vs. Cormier, Rockhold vs. Larkin, and now McMann vs. Carmouche is finished. The card is in less than a month so either they have to find replacements for all of these fights or they'll have to cancel another Strikeforce show. They don't have a main event, they don't have a co-main event, there's nothing right now.

Rafael Feijao’s Appeal Denied; One-Year Suspension Upheld by California Commission
(mmaweekly.com)
Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante‘s appeal to the California State Athletic Commission was denied on Monday. Following a lengthy meeting between the fighter and his representatives, who were heard before the commission, the commissioners ultimately decided to uphold the one-year suspension first handed down earlier this year. Cavalcante and his lawyer, along with manager and agent Ed Soares, appeared before the commission to argue their belief that the chain of custody of the sample taken from the fighter was handled incorrectly.

Report: Luke Rockhold injured, out of Strikeforce title defense vs. Lorenz Larkin
(mmajunkie.com)
Luke Rockhold reportedly has suffered a wrist injury and is out of his title defense next month. The injury is the latest blow to Strikeforce's Nov. 3 card in Oklahoma City, which now is missing complete main and co-main events. Rockhold (10-1 MMA, 9-0 SF) was scheduled to defend his middleweight title against Lorenz Larkin (13-0 MMA, 4-0 SF) in the night's co-feature. News of Rockhold's injury first was reported by The MMA Corner, citing sources close to the fighter's camp, though neither Strikeforce nor Rockhold have made announcements of the news yet.

Dana White suggests Strikeforce champ Ronda Rousey vs. 'Cyborg' Santos is close
(mmajunkie.com)
What could be the most marketable fight in women's MMA history appears to be moving closer to reality. Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has risen quickly during her recent title reign, yet a much-anticipated fight with currently suspended ex-featherweight champ Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos has seemingly been stalled by public bickering over a proposed weight class. UFC President Dana White, though, suggested progress is being made.

Daniel Cormier pushes for Pat Barry fight at Nov. 3 Strikeforce event
(mmajunkie.com)
With Frank Mir injured and Matt Mitrione unwilling to take the fight, Strikeforce heavyweight Daniel Cormier appears to be taking charge of his own future. With his Nov. 3 Strikeforce headliner a little more than a month away, Cormier is publicly campaigning for an opponent, and it's sticking with the Strikeforce-vs.-UFC theme. Cormier (10-0 MMA, 4-0 SF) wants Pat Barry (7-5 MMA, 4-5 UFC). "@danawhite offer the fight to @HypeOrDie he's from Louisiana like me," he wrote. "He will take the fight. Let's do it!" He then encouraged fans to retweet the plea.

With Frank Mir Out, Andrei Arlovski Offers To Fight Daniel Cormier
(bloodyelbow.com)
As of two days ago Frank Mir became the latest Zuffa fighter to suffer an injury, the Strikeforce superfight between him and Daniel Cormier was off the cards. There's no replacement yet, but Fabricio Werdum has put his hat in the ring as a potential challenger for the SF Grand Prix winner. Yesterday, former UFC heavyweight champion and Strikeforce fighter Andrei Arlovski also offered to step in on short notice. MMA Fighting has the info: "I'm getting a lot of tweets about fighting (Daniel Cormier)," former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski tweeted yesterday. "And if the fans want to see it, I'm sure we can make it happen!" Arlovski eventually deleted his initial tweet, however his timeline quickly became inundated with a flood of retweets and quotes from fans calling for "The Pitbull" to return to his old Strikeforce stomping grounds.

Strikeforce CEO Coker explains why Larkin, not 'Jacare,' for Rockhold title fight
(mmajunkie.com)
Scott Coker usually is rather reserved when it comes to announcing future plans following events that just happened. But for a change, in San Diego this past month, he wasn't. Both before "Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman" and immediately after the card, the Strikeforce CEO thought it was a pretty safe bet that middleweight champ Luke Rockhold would next face Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza. And wouldn't ya know it? The once-in-a-blue-moon time Coker spoke publicly about a future fight's near-certainty, it didn't happen. Strikeforce earlier this week announced Rockhold (10-1 MMA, 9-0 SF) next will defend his title against Lorenz Larkin (13-0 MMA, 4-0 SF), not Souza (16-3 MMA, 6-1 SF), who made quick work of Derek Brunson (9-2 MMA, 3-1 SF) in San Diego with a 41-second TKO. Prior to Strikeforce's most recent show, Coker told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the Souza-Brunson winner was likely to get a title shot – especially if that winner was Souza, who lost his belt to Rockhold one year ago this weekend.

'Best female fighter ever'? Rolling Stone says it's Strikeforce champ Ronda Rousey
(mmajunkie.com)
Ronda Rousey can add Rolling Stone magazine to her ever-growing mass media resume. Rousey, the unbeaten Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion, makes an appearance in the magazine's most recent issue in a short piece 33 pages in – next to a fellow Olympian in recent U.S. swimming sensation Ryan Lochte. And Rolling Stone cut right to the chase with the all-caps headline: "The best female fighter ever." Rousey (6-0 MMA, 4-0 SF) is coming off yet another dominant victory, defending her Strikeforce title for the first time with a 54-second armbar win over former champ Sarah Kaufman this past month in San Diego. That win came on the heels of her title fight win over Miesha Tate in March, which took what for Rousey has become an almost crazy-by-comparison 4:27 to pull off. The math is what makes that 4:27 crazy, of course. Rousey's three amateur opponents and five professional opponents outside of Tate lasted a combined 4:56 – an average of 37 seconds each. And as is well-known, all tapped to Rousey's signature armbar...

Former UFC, Strikeforce fighter Jason 'Mayhem' Miller charged with misdemeanor vandalism
(mmajunkie.com)
The Orange County (Calif.) District Attorney today charged Jason "Mayhem" Miller with a misdemeanor count of vandalism for allegedly breaking into a church. Miller faces probation or up to one year in jail, OC district attorney spokesperson Farrah Emami today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). Miller's arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 21 in Orange County Superior Court, were he will either enter a plea of guilty or not guilty. The fighter did not respond to a request for comment. A complaint filed today alleges that Miller "did unlawfully deface with graffiti and other inscribed material, damage and destroy church property, real and personal property belonging to Mission Hills Baptist Church." The damage was totaled at $400. Should Miller plead not guilty, a pre-trial hearing would be set for a later date. Sheriff's deputies arrested Miller on Aug. 13 after he was found naked but coherent on the second floor of the church, the OC Sheriff's Department said. They found fire extinguisher spray on the first and second floors, broken windows, broken pictures, scattered CDs and books and glass. Miller was taken to an Orange County jail and released on Aug. 14 after posting bail. Miller (28-9 MMA, 0-3 UFC) was released from the UFC following a loss to C.B. Dollaway at UFC 146. The former host of MTV's "Bully Beatdown" assured fans he was OK after his release.

MMA World Cup 2017
(aljazeera.com)
Having been branded as “human cock fighting” by former Whitehouse hopeful John McCain, mixed martial arts is set to join mainstream sports by having its very own world cup. The competition will happen in 2017 and will fittingly take place at the home of the gladiators in Rome. “Considering the history of Rome, and the Coliseum, it is the perfect environment for the first mixed martial arts world cup. It gives marquee values and it is the right tribute to history,” said World Cup Mixed Martial Arts (WCMMA) Executive Director, Edward Catucci... A watered down version of mma? What do you guys think?

Undefeated Olympic medalist Sara McMann signs with Strikeforce
(mmajunkie.com)
Undefeated bantamweight female prospect Sara McMann (6-0 MMA, 0-0 SF) is the latest addition to the Strikeforce roster. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today learned from multiple sources close to the former Olympic wrestling silver medalist that McMann has signed a multi-fight deal with the promotion. McMann could debut as soon as the promotion's recently-announced Nov. 3 event, but an opponent has yet to be determined. Exact terms of the deal were not disclosed. The 31-year-old McMann fought most recently at July's Invicta Fighting Championships 2, where she earned a hard-fought decision win over submission ace Shayna Baszler. It was McMann's sixth consecutive win as a professional, all of which came in a 14-month span.
