(mmamental.com) Over the last few weeks, Daniel Cormier has fielded questions on a number of topics: going to the UFC after his final fight in Strikeforce this Saturday, Strikeforce closing its doors, moving to 205 pounds eventually, and a cancelled fight with Frank Mir. It seems like the only thing the two-time US Olympic wrestler hasn’t been asked about is the man who will be trying to punch him in the face this weekend in Oklahoma City, Dion Staring.

Dana White Talks About the End of Strikeforce – “I’m So Glad It’s Over”
(mmaweekly.com) The long, slow painful death of Strikeforce will finally come to an end on Jan. 12, and UFC President Dana White is glad the whole ordeal is coming to a close.
When Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC, first purchased Strikeforce there were high hopes to keep the promotion running as a sister organization with fight cards airing on Showtime, and a completely separate roster of fighters.
Unfortunately a rough relationship with Showtime never got smoother, and Dana White’s hopes to influence and build the promotion just did not come to fruition. Now the former San Jose based promotion will soon land in the organizational graveyard alongside Pride Fighting Championships, and many others that couldn’t survive when push came to shove.
“I’m so glad it’s over,” White said on Thursday about the demise of Strikeforce...

STRIKEFORCE'S JOSH BARNETT BELIEVES RETURN TO UFC WOULD SILENCE SOME CRITICS
(mmajunkie.com) Josh Barnett doesn't care whether his opponent is from Austria or Middle-earth.
After six months of waiting and recovering, Barnett (31-6 MMA, 2-1 SF) is happy that Nandor Guelmino (11-3-1 MMA, 0-0 SF) agreed to meet him at "Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine," which takes place Jan. 12 at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City.
"All my friends are like, 'Nandor … is he an ork? Is he from Mordor?'" Barnett told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "I don't know about that, but either way, he's going to try and mess me up."
Landing in the UFC or in another upstart promotion isn't of major concern to Barnett, but he said there are journalists and fans he'd like to prove wrong by returning to the octagon.
"I would love to see the look on some folks' faces ... being someplace where, one, I've already been, even though people may not know it, and two, a place that a lot of folks never thought they'd see me again," he said.
