One FC Snaps Up UFC Vet Kamal Shalorus
UFC and WEC veteran Kamal Shalorus is headed to the Philippines to fight for One FC.
Shalorus recently posted his signing to One FC on his Facebook page. MMAWeekly.com sources have since confirmed that Shalorus is expected to fight Eduard Folayang at One FC 9 on May 31 at SM Mall of Asia in Bay City near Manila.
Shalorus (7-3-2) left the UFC on a three-fight skid after having gone 3-0-1 in the WEC. He counted Bart Palaszewski among his WEC wins, but could never get off the ground in the Octagon...
B.C.’s Budd to face Estes at Invicta FC 5
Canadian kickboxer Julia (The Jewel) Budd has another new opponent for next week’s Invicta FC 5, and hopefully this one will stick. The Port Moody, B.C., native take on Mollie Estes at the event in what will be her third appearance in the all-female MMA promotion.
Budd (4-2) was originally supposed to face Ediane Gomes (1-1) at the event, which takes place April 5 at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City. That was before Invicta signed former Strikeforce champion Cristiane (Cyborg) Santos and decided to match her versus Gomes.
Budd was then paired against Fiona Muxlow; however, Gomes was injured and again Budd’s opponent was pulled in order to face Santos.
Estes, meanwhile was originally on the card against Veronica Rothenhausler, but the latter had to withdraw with an injury.
The 29-year-old Budd, a protégé of former MMA star Lance Gibson and known for her phenomenal conditioning, will be seeking her third straight win, all with Invicta, since a 39-second loss to Ronda Rousey in Strikeforce, in which her elbow was dislocated. Her last two wins came by first-round TKO — both by way of punches and elbow strikes — over Elina Nilsson and Danielle West.
Nick Lembo explains regulatory challenges WSOF faced before second event
Without federal regulations, mixed martial arts promoters are forced to abide by guidelines that often vary both in type and size as they hold events in different states. The World Series of Fighting (WSOF) ran headlong into this particular challenge as they held their second show overall and first in New Jersey on Saturday evening at Revel Resort and Casino in Atlantic City.
As it turns out, the show came close to never happening. Aside from complications prior to the weigh-ins, the organization failed to comply with state regulations as it pertains to creating a complete, safe cage. In short, WSOF initially provided both a canvas and cage pads too small for their own cage. Bloody Elbow was the first to report the news...

Promoters say MMA fighter Rowan faked death
Mixed martial arts promoters Christos Piliafas and Scott DiPonio were shocked to learn that one of their fighters was a suspect in the holdup of a Michigan gun shop this week.
After all, it was only two weeks ago that they raised more than $1,000 to help the amateur heavyweight's family pay for his funeral.
Charles Rowan, 25, didn't die in a February car wreck while en route to his fifth bout, as his girlfriend, Rosalinda Martinez, claimed that night, according to DiPonio. The couple and a friend, Michael Bowman, were in a Gladwin courtroom Friday to hear the charges against them: armed robbery and assault with intent to murder. Each requested a court-appointed attorney.
DiPonio, who owns the Diamond D fight team, said he realized they had been duped when he saw Rowan's mug shot on television identifying him as a person of interest in the Monday robbery of Guns and Stuff in Sage Township, about 100 miles southeast of Traverse City. The store's owner, Richard Robinette, was severely beaten and remained in serious but stable condition Friday in a Flint hospital.
With Bellator clearance, Paul Daley heads to UAE to fight Rodrigo Ribeiro
UFC and Strikeforce vet Paul Daley (31-12-2) has received clearance from Bellator and will continue his world tour in May when he takes on fellow welterweight Rodrigo Ribeiro (9-10) at Dubai Fighting Championship 4, officials recently announced.
The event takes place May 10 at Madinat Arena in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Daley vs. Ribeiro serves as the headliner of the show.
Daley most recently earned a vicious flying-knee knockout of Patrick Vallee at Cage Contender XVI in Dublin, which followed a Bellator 72 TKO win over Rudy Bears. The English striker is now on a 4-1 run since a pair of 2011 losses in Strikeforce.
Daley is expected to return to Bellator later this year.
Cristiane Santos meets replacement Fiona Muxlow at Invicta FC 5
With Ediane Gomez (10-2) injured and out of the fight, former Strikeforce champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos (10-1) instead will fight Australian featherweight Fiona Muxlow (6-2) at next month's Invicta FC 5 event.
Invicta FC officials announced the change following confirmation of Gomez's withdrawal due to a shoulder injury.
Muxlow initially was slated to fight Julie Budd (4-2) on the card. Officials said Budd will get a new opponent.
Invicta FC 5 takes place April 5 at Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Mo. Santos vs. Muxlow is scheduled for the event's main card, which airs via online pay-per-view.
