Shine FIghts Expected To Sign TV Deal Soon
(mmaweekly.com)
Shine Fights has been looking to make some major moves recently including the signing of former “Ultimate Fighter” winner Efrain Escudero to a contract. Now the upstart organization appears on the verge of signing a deal to bring their brand of MMA to cable television. Shine Fights COO Jason Chambers revealed the news to MMAWeekly in an exclusive interview on Tuesday. “For all intensive purposes we’ve come to an agreement,” Chambers said about the new TV deal. “It’s just a matter of dotting the “I”s and crossing the “T”s.” While Chambers stopped short of naming which network would get the rights for Shine Fights, he did say it was a recognizable name that fans of MMA will be able to access with ease. “It’s definitely a network that everyone will be familiar with,” Chambers disclosed. “It’s a network that I think is the right size and the right scope for where we are.” The deal that will see Shine Fights hit free TV will be similar to the current package the UFC runs prior to their pay-per-view offerings. The plan according to Chambers is to have the Shine Fights debut with their new TV deal early next year. “We plan on doing six pay-per-views next year and all of those undercards will be able to be seen live on cable,” said Chambers. There has been no word which network is going to land Shine Fights, but with MMA becoming a viable product as shown by the UFC’s success on Spike TV as well as the WEC on Versus, it could be any number of cable stations looking to add fights to their roster.

Bellator Exec Blasts Reports Of Impending Demise, Says New TV Deal Official Soon
(mmajunkie.com)
To say that Bjorn Rebney disagrees with a recent report describing the impending demise of his fight promotion would be a slight understatement. In fact, the Bellator Fighting Championships founder and CEO says the report is lacking one vastly important factor: the truth. A weekend report on MiddleEasy.com outlined a series of issues Rebney and Bellator were said to be currently facing. Among the concerns were the lack of a television deal, angered investors looking to "pull the plug" on the promotion and a desperate need to arrange a long-discussed bout between Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and his Strikeforce counterpart Gilbert Melendez as a last-ditch effort to save the company. Wrong on all accounts, says Rebney. "Either it's someone just starting rumors for the sake of starting rumors, or it's just the most ridiculous type of amateurish nonsense," Rebney said of the report. "I don't even like to call it journalism because it has no connection to reality. That blog, whoever that is that wrote that, is just so filled with nonsense. It's completely, unequivocally untrue on every front they wrote. It's literally as if someone stepped out and just said, 'I'm going to create whichever fantasy I choose to create, and I'm going to write it.' There wasn't even the slightest hint of accuracy or truth in anything that showed up on that blog. It's the downside and the negativity of the Internet. Any idiot can write any ridiculous, completely unfounded nonsense thing, and it can gain traction." It all apaprently stems from what Rebney says is a false report of a failed TV deal between Bellator and the cable network G4, but Rebney says a new TV deal will be announced soon, among other things.

Bellator Vet Jessica Rakoczy FIned & Suspended by NSAC, Fight Result Changed
(mmajunkie.com)
The NSAC has suspended one-time Bellator Fighting Championships veteran and former pro boxer Jessica Rakoczy for 9 months and fined her $833 for a failed drug test following a recent fight. At an administrative hearing held in Las Vegas, Rakoczy admitted to taking one-half a Percocet for back pain the night prior to an Oct. 9 fight with Jennifer Scott at a local event, MMAXplosion. Rakoczy was called before the commission when her post-fight drug screen revealed the presence of banned painkillers Oxymorphone and Oxycodone. She told the commission she took the pain pill after a sleepless night caring for her young son, NASC executive chairman Keith Kizer said, and forgot to inform commission doctors on fight night. "She was very apologetic and contrite at the hearing," said Kizer. "The commissioners appreciated that. What bothered them most was when she got to the arena that night, she didn't tell the doctors there that, 'Hey, I had to take a pain pill this morning for my back.'" Rakoczy beat Scott by 2nd round TKO (doctor stoppage after round 2), but that result is now changed to No Decision. Rakoczy now needs to submit a clean drug test to be re-licensed when her suspension runs its course. She is the first female mixed martial artist in Nevada to fail a post-fight drug screen.

UFC contract not up for grabs in proposed Pedro Rizzo vs. Tim Sylvia bout
(mmajunkie.com)
While a heavyweight showdown between former UFC champions Pedro Rizzo (19-9) and Tim Sylvia (27-6) may provide fireworks on the feet, the winner will not be provided a UFC contract. Contrary to several published reports, UFC president Dana White told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he has made no such promises to either of his ex-employees. "Where the [expletive] did that come from?" White asked with a laugh. Personal note... THANK GOD.

Pedro Rizzo vs. Tim Sylvia - Winner Gets UFC Contract
(bloodyelbow.com)
"Dana White mentioned that the winner should get another chance in the Ultimate Fighting Championship." "As the date hasn’t been set, it’s just a verbal agreement, so I’m getting back to light training. But I want to have a good performance. Who knows? Maybe I’ll manage a return to the UFC. I feel really comfortable fighting in that Octagon. I feel leaving there was the biggest mistake of my career, my great regret."

First Failed Drug Screening by a Female Mixed Martial Artist in Nevada
(mmajunkie.com)
One-time Bellator Fighting Championships veteran and former pro boxer Jessica Rakoczy (1-3 MMA, 31-3 Boxing) has failed a post-fight drug screen administered by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and now faces a potential suspension of her license. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned of the failed screen from NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer. The failed screen is the first by a female mixed martial artist in Nevada. According to NSAC records, Rakoczy tested positive for the banned painkillers Oxymorphone and Oxycodone following her Oct. 9 win over Jennifer Scott under the Las Vegas-based MMA Xplosion banner. Rakoczy earned the victory via second-round TKO when a bloodied Scott was ruled ineligible to continue after absorbing 10 minutes of pinpoint strikes from Rakoczy. The win was Rakoczy's first as a mixed martial artist after suffering defeats in her first three outings to kickboxing ace Felice Herrig, new Bellator 115-pound champion Zoila Frausto and California resident Michelle Ould.

Bellator 34 recap: Lombard weathers Storm, Frausto shocks Fujii in five
(mmajunkie.com)
Heading into the final event of Bellator Fighting Championships third season, Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard and Japanese superstar Megumi Fujii were considered near-locks by MMA oddsmakers. Only Lombard would deliver. The Cuban judoka outlasted a gutsy Alexander Shlemenko to successfully defend his 185-pound belt in the featured bout of Thursday's Bellator 34 event, but Fujii was shocked by Zoila Frausto in a somewhat contentious decision that saw the "Warrior Princess" claim Bellator's first-ever 115-pound title...
