Colt Toombs -- Son of 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper -- to Make Pro Debut Thursday
After an unbeaten amateur run, Colt Toombs will make his professional debut on Thursday night in an undercard bout during a Tachi Palace Fights card in Leemore, Calif. Toombs is the son of former professional wrestling great "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. A member of Team Quest, the 20-year-old Toombs went 4-0 in amateur competition as a featherweight, winning twice by TKO, once by submission and once by decision. His last amateur bout was last October. In his pro debut, he'll face Art Becerra, who is 1-1 and last fought in Sept. 2008.

Sengoku Raiden Championships 12 matchups include champ Jorge Santiago, Wilson Reis
World Victory Road officials today announced three bouts for their next event, Sengoku Raiden Championships 12, and notable competitors include middleweight title-holder Jorge Santiago and former EliteXC bantamweight champion Wilson Reis. The event, which airs on HDNet in North America, takes place March 7 at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan. Santiago takes on Mamed Khalidov in a rematch, Reis meets Yuji Hoshino, and Shigeki Osawa meets fellow featherweight Kyung Ho Kang. Sengoku Raiden Championships 12 is WVR's first event of 2010; the promotion hasn't hosted a show since it teamed up with DREAM for the Dec. 31 "Dynamite!! 2009" show.
King of the Cage to air monthly on HDNet
HDNet on Monday announced a multi-year partnership with "Mark Burnett Presents: King of the Cage," in which, under terms of the agreement, the network will feature live "King of the Cage" events every month. The first event will air on HDNet on Friday, Feb. 12 at 10:00 p.m. ET. "King of the Cage and Mark Burnett are pioneers in their respective fields, and we are excited to feature 'Mark Burnett Presents: King of the Cage' on HDNet as part of our commitment to being the home of MMA," said Mark Cuban, Chairman and Co-founder of HDNet. "The award-winning story telling of Mark Burnett will bring the personalities of MMA to life in a way that has never been seen before."
Loiseau Finally Gets Charity Fight, Headlines MFL 2
After his pleas for a charity fight initially fell on deaf ears, David Loiseau has finally secured a bout–the proceeds of which will benefit victims of the January earthquake in Haiti. He'll face Isidro Gonzales at Mixed Fight League 2: battleground on 2/27 in Montreal, Canada. In addition to Loiseau donating his entire fight purse to charity, $2 from each ticket sold will be donated to the American Red Cross to assist disaster relief efforts.
Shine Fights SIgns Braulio Estima
Shine Fights still isn't finished with their signing spree they've been on since late last year. Their newest signing is Braulio Estima, the under-88kg and Absolute division champion of the 2009 ADCC submission championships. He's expected to debut for the promotion this spring.
Bellator adds DREAM vet Joe Warren to season-two featherweight tourney
Bellator's season-two tournaments continue to take shape, and the organization today announced another solid addition to the 145-pound field. Three-time DREAM veteran and world-class wrestler Joe Warren (2-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC) will compete in Bellator's next featherweight tournament. Warren is best known to MMA fans as the man who knocked off former WEC champ Chase Beebe and top-ranked Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto in his first two professional contests before falling to Bibiano Fernandes in DREAM's 2009 featherweight grand prix.
Broughton Rolls Through U.K.'s Best For Tourney Win
Heavyweights collided in Hove, England in a unique “winner takes all” tournament, £10,000 (roughly $16,000) incentive and a nice shiny ZT Fight Night strap to boot. This brought out the big guns in U.K. MMA and a few dark horses, but ultimately it was M-1 challenge veteran Rob Broughton who was the star of the show, picking up the overall victory over the course of seven grueling rounds of MMA action.
Former Power Ranger Jason Frank Wins MMA Debut
Although it almost was the other way around, good beat evil again last night as Jason David Frank, best known as the Green/White Ranger on "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", managed to withstand a brutal opening onslaught and beat Jonathan Mack by 1st round tapout in his MMA debut. The fight, which Frank won by omoplata, will be televised by HDNet in the near future.
Mamoru Submits Baca, Captures KOTC Gold in Japan
Mamoru Yamaguchi - the afro'd former Shooto champion who returned to MMA last October following a year-plus hiatus - picked up his third consecutive win with a second round submission of American Frank Baca. The victory also earned Yamaguchi his third title: King of the Cage World Junior Flyweight Champion.
Bellator signs Eric Schambari as first middleweight for season-two tourney
Three-time WEC veteran Eric Schambari, who put together a 4-0 run in 2009 after taking one year off while recovering from a life-threatening condition, is Belltor's first participant in its newest 185-pound tournament.Bellator officials today announced the native Las Vegan as the first member of its eight-man, 185-pound bracket.
Fight Path: Former Canadian paratrooper William Romero waited a year for Bellator slot
William Romero might have taken even longer to start his professional MMA career if several organizations hadn't teamed for an open Canadian tryout.That was a couple years ago, when about 300 guys met at an Ontario gym to work out and spar in front of scouts looking for new talent. Romero, though, might have been prepared more than any of them.

Five days from the first bell of the Jan. 30 event, "Strikeforce: Miami," the promotion has taken extra steps to ensure a welterweight clash between Jay Hieron (18-4 MMA, 1-0 SF) and Joe Riggs (32-10 MMA, 3-2 SF) can be widely seen. EA Sports, the software developer of video game "EA Sports MMA" and a strategic partner of the San Jose, Calif.–based Strikeforce promotion, announced today via Twitter that it will stream the preliminary card fight live on EASportsMMA.com. The stream begins at 9 p.m. ET and will be the sole undercard fight broadcast on the web.
Shine Fights inks Dave "Pee Wee" Herman; bout with Jeff Monson likely for spring
Sengoku, Bellator and EliteXC veteran Dave Herman (16-1), better known to most MMA fans as "Pee Wee," is the latest addition to the rapidly expanding Shine Fights roster. The organization announced the signing late Monday night via Twitter. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned from sources close to the promotion that near-12-year veteran Jeff Monson (32-9) is likely to welcome Herman to the organization. Monson signed a deal with the upstart Shine Fights promotion this past December.
Former UFC Champion Carlos Newton set to face Chris Clements at W-1 MMA on March 20
Carlos Newton, the former UFC Welterweight Champion, is set to face Chris Clements at the Canadian based W-1 MMA show on March 20 in Montreal according to Top MMA News. Just yesterday, news broke that W-1 had also signed recently released UFC fighter Denis Kang. Newton (15-13), best known for being on the receiving end of a Matt Hughes power bomb at UFC 34, is coming off a unanimous decision win over Shonie Carter in a W-1 match last October. This will be Newton's third fight with W-1.

Bellator Inks 2000 Olympian
Another piece to the Bellator Fighting Championships Season 2 puzzle has fallen into place, as the promotion on Wednesday announced the signing of 2000 Olympic judoka Ferrid Kheder. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.The 34-year-old joins undefeated Canadian Mike Ricci in an eight-man lightweight tournament, the winner of which will earn a shot at Bellator champion Eddie Alvarez. Kheder trains under Shawn Tompkins in Las Vegas and has won 11 of his last 12 fights.

Mike Ricci, GSP training partner, set for Bellator's season-two lightweight tourney
With their featherweight and welterweight tournaments quickly filling with notable talent, Bellator Fighting Championships officials today revealed the first competitor for its lightweight tournament: Mike Ricci.Ricci, who trains with UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre under the famed Firas Zahabi at Montreal's TriStar gym, owns a 5-0 career mark.Ricci competes in the eight-man lightweight tournament, which commences in April with live Thursday-night events on FOX Sports Net Affiliates.
