Though sober, Drew Fickett says a loss tonight could result in homelessness
(mmajunkie.com)
Every fighter carries emotional baggage into the cage. Drew Fickett's, though, could stuff the hull of a 747. The veteran fighter, who's recently tried to bring stability to his infamously chaotic life, makes his 60th pro appearance at tonight's ShoFIGHT 20 event. He'll enter the cage with six weeks of sobriety, a new fight team behind him, and the real threat of homelessness if he doesn't get a victory. "I'm facing pressure in this fight, but I've been through so much in my life recently that honestly, I'm not nervous at all," Fickett told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) earlier this week. "If I don't win this fight, I'm pretty much homeless." Fickett (42-17) meets jiu-jitsu ace Jonatas Novaes (9-4) tonight in a featured bout at ShoFIGHT 20, which takes place at O'Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, Mo. The event airs via tape-delayed pay-per-view on July 1, though Canadian fans can watch it live on The Fight Network at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT).

UFC Vets Karo Parisyan And Kendall Grove Look To Rebound At Shofight
(mmanews.com)
The sport of mixed martial arts is tough. There is no disputing that. Fighters experience ups and downs, wins and losses, and make sacrifices to be the very best they can be. Staying committed when you’re winning can be easy. It’s when losses come that combat athletes find out how committed they really are to the fight game. Two fighters in such a position are former UFC stalwarts Karo “The Heat’ Parisyan and Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove. On June 16th in Springfield, Missouri, both will tangle with ultra-tough opponents, as Parisyan will battle fellow UFC vet John Gunderson, and Grove will lock horns with UFC/Strikeforce vet Terry Martin. The winner of the Parisyan-Gunderson tilt will be awarded the first ShoFIGHT welterweight belt, while either Grove or Martin will go home with ShoFIGHT middleweight strap. In short, it’s a big fight for all the competitors involved. PPV broadcast details will be announced soon.

Injury forces Sergei Kharitonov to withdraw from Tony Lopez fight on May 26 in Stockholm
(mmamania.com)
Hard-hitting heavyweight striker Sergei Kharitonov injured his neck and was forced to withdraw from his upcoming mixed martial arts (MMA) fight against Tony Lopez at the "2012 Glory World Series" on May 26 in Stockholm, Sweden. Golden Glory head coach Martijn de Jong recently confirmed the change on Twitter. Kharitonov (18-5) was last seen disposing of Mark Miller under the United Glory banner earlier this year in Russia. It was a nice rebound win (under kickboxing rules) for the former paratrooper, who was bounced from the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix with a submission loss to Josh Barnett back in 2011. Stepping in to take his place will be Swedish "Sledgehammer" Llir Latifi (5-2-1), who was previously booked to throw hands opposite Jeremy Horn until "Gumby" blew out his knee.

Jay Hieron will make his Legacy Fighting Championship debut on July 13 against Mike Bronzoulis
(sherdog.com)
The welterweight contest is set for LFC 12, which takes place at Arena Theater in Houston and airs live on HDNet. The event is also expected to feature the Legacy debut of grappling ace Robert Drysdale, who will square off with Isaac Villanueva. Hieron had a 10-fight winning streak snapped when he failed to capture Bellator’s welterweight title last year. The former IFL champion holds over half of his career victories by either knockout or submission and has never been submitted in nearly nine years as a professional.

UFC veteran Din Thomas victorious in MMA return
(mmamania.com)
It's been over two years, but longtime Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran Din Thomas finally returned to mixed martial arts (MMA) action at "Pure MMA 2" last Saturday night (May 12, 2012) in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, submitting up-and-coming featherweight prospect Cody Bollinger via first-round submission (armbar). "Dinyero" was originally supposed to compete at "Fight Time 7" from the War Memorial Auditorium last October in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, but ended up in the hospital after totaling his car on the way to the arena. Thomas (26-8) is currently riding a four-fight win streak, which includes a submission victory (triangle choke) over Dustin Pierkin at Headhunter Productions "The Patriot Act" back in Feb. 2009 followed by a technical knockout win (knee) over Gabe Lemley at "March Badness" just over a month later.

Mariusz Pudzianowski Clobbers Bob Sapp at KSW 19; Mamed Khalidov Victorious
(sherdog.com)
Five-time World’s Strongest Man titleholder Mariusz Pudzianowski put away Bob Sapp with first-round punches less than a minute into their KSW 19 headliner on Saturday at the Atlas Arena in Lodz, Poland. Sapp (11-12), who has lost his last six fights, succumbed to the Polish strongman’s blows 41 seconds into round one. The two behemoths approached one another tentatively at the start and then let loose with their fists. Sapp covered up almost immediately and ate a series of close-quarters knees. Pudzianowski (4-2) backed him into the ropes, ripped his feet out from under him with a primitive but effective standing double-leg takedown and smashed away with hammerfists and punches. With Sapp offering nothing in return, referee Tomasz Bronder swooped in and brought the match to a merciful close.
