Shark Fights 17 Results
UFC veteran Jake Rosholt earned a clear-cut decision win over former IFL champion Matt Horwich in the main event of Friday night's Shark Fights 17 event.
The rematch served as the featured contest of the HDNet-broadcast event, which took place Friday night at Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas.
Rosholt used a grinding approach, relying on solid clinchwork and takedowns to earn the clean sweep on all three judges' cards.
The result proved revenge for Rosholt, who was defeated by Horwich in a November 2010 TKO result.
Rosholt has remained active since the loss, securing a 5-0 record in 2011.
In the evening's co-feature, former UFC champ Ricco Rodriguez made quick work of final-day replacement Doug Williams. Rodriguez earned a takedown in the opening minute and then quickly advanced to mount before his opponent offered up his neck. The rear-naked choke came quickly after, and the entire process took just two minutes and 16 seconds.
With the result, Rodriguez has now earned 12-straight wins. Although "Suave" continues to tease a potential move to the light heavyweight division, this bout was contested as a catchweight affair. Original opponent Karl Knothe was scratched at Friday's weigh-ins after an apparent miscommunication left him well above the contracted weight for the bout.
Jake Rosholt def. Matt Horwich via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Ricco Rodriguez def. Doug Williams via submission (rear-naked choke) - Round 1, 2:16
Emanuel Newton def. Ilir Latifi via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
Erik Perez def. Douglas Frey via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
Alan Jouban def. Andrew Goldthwaite via knockout (punches) - Round 3, 2:37
Victor Hernandez def. Quaint Kempf via submission (armbar) - Round 1, 1:06
Matt Hobar def. Jay Flores via submission (rear-naked choke) - Round 1, 1:55
Ricco Rodriguez Agrees to New Opponent After Shark Fights 17 Weigh-in Debacle
"Shark Fights 17: Horwich vs. Rosholt II is finally set for Friday night at the Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas, but it wasn’t without some last-minute drama following Thursday’s weigh-in.
Main eventers Matt Horwich and Josh Rosholt easily made weight, making their bout official, but things didn’t go as smoothly for former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez."
Ricco Rodriguez currently without opponent at Shark Fights 17
A weight snafu has put the co-main event of Shark Fights 17 in jeopardy.
A scheduled bout between Ricco Rodriguez (46-11) and Karl Knothe (19-6) was scratched today because of an apparent miscommunication about the contested weight limit of the bout that caused Knothe to come in grossly overweight for the event, which takes place tonight at Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas.
Both Rodriguez's camp and Shark Fights officials said the bout was agreed to a catchweight of 230 pounds while Knothe allegedly believed it to be a heavyweight contest.
When Knothe weighed in at 253.75 pounds to Rodriguez's 227.75 pounds, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation disallowed Knothe from tonight's event due to the large gap and concerns over excessive weight-cutting from the heavier fighter.
CEO Bjorn Rebney: Nate Marquardt currently "just isn't a good fit" for Bellator
Bjorn Rebney knows top-10 fighters don't grow on trees, and it's even rarer to find such free agents coming off a victory.
But despite the availability of Nate Marquardt, the Bellator chairman and CEO said the former UFC middleweight title challenger won't be headed to his organization anytime soon.
As he today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), Marquardt "just isn't a good fit" for the organization at this time.

New Mexico Commission Overturns Draw, Declares Chris Camozzi Winner
The New Mexico Athletic Commission has changed the decision in the Shark Fights bout between Chris Camozzi and Joey Villasenor.
The commission discovered a scoring error from the judges’ scorecards after the fights ended on May 27 at Shark Fights in Rio Rancho, N.M.
On Tuesday, they overturned the initial call for the bout, a draw, and declared Camozzi the winner by split decision.
MMAWeekly.com obtained the scorecards from fight night, and according to the score sheet, judge Robert Romero scored the fight 29-28 Camozzi, and judge Jenna Vasquez scored the fight 29-28 Villasenor.
Judge Mark Sanchez had the fight scored 29-29, which caused the fight to be a draw, but on the scorecard, it actually read that he had given Camozzi both rounds two and three, so it should have been 29-28 for Camozzi.
The fight has been switched by the commission and Camozzi has been awarded the victory.
Refferee's DANGEROUS mistake in Kim Couture fight
If you guys haven't see this outrage, you should.
The video of this incompetant referee in this fight is included, as is the step by step photo documentation of this.
The choke is applied at 1:59 of the video. Kim couture appears to be out at 2:07. She's CLEARLY UNCONSCIOUS at 2:11. THe Ref stops the fight at 2:19.
Quite frankly, she's lucky to walk out with such an idiotic, ignorant ref working this fight. This guy should NEVER work another fight again. He should NEVER have another human's well-being in his hands ever again.
For the record, it was a slick scissors choke. Plus, it shows that Kimmy Doesn't have much of a future in MMA...But both of those things get overshadowed by this buffoon.
Seriously, check it out

Bloodyelbow's Number One Ranked Scouting Report Lightweight Thiago Michel Signs With Bellator
BloodyElbow.com's #1 ranked lightweight on the 2011 World MMA Scouting Report, Thiago Michel, has signed with Bellator. BloodyElbow.com confirmed through a source close to the fighter last Friday. The 2010 WAKO World Cup kickboxing champion is rumored to possibly make his debut in the fall, around September or October in a tune-up bout before attempting to capitalize on an opportunity to fight for the Bellator lightweight crown by fighting in the tournament format.
Michel is currently 8-2 in his mixed martial arts career, amassing a 1-1 record since the Scouting Report was released in November. A loss to Alessandro Ferreira soured some fans who were intrigued with our report as Michel's lacking ground game was exploited by a better grappler. He rebounded five months later against Erick Barbosa at Brazil Fight 4 in a highly-entertaining showcase of his diverse striking prowess, utilizing improved takedown defense and a versatile kicking game.
