Nate Marquardt vs. Yoshiyuki Yoshida slated for BAMMA 9 in February
(mmajunkie.com)
Nate Marquardt's BAMMA debut will wait for now. Once targeted to meet Paul Daley (29-11-2) at the upcoming BAMMA 8 event, Marquardt (31-10-2), a onetime UFC middleweight title challenger, will now headline BAMMA 9 opposite UFC vet Yoshiyuki Yoshida (13-6). Promotion officials today announced that BAMMA 9 is set for Feb. 11 at LG Arena in Birmingham, England, which is the site of this weekend's UFC 138 event. "Although we had planned for Nate's first fight to be in December, we believe it is worth waiting a further eight weeks for such a great matchup," BAMMA CEO David Green stated. Marquardt's debut marks his first outing since his release from the UFC, which came after he was not medically cleared by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission in advance of his UFC on Versus 4 headliner with Rick Story. It was later revealed that Marquardt's use of prescribed testosterone caused him to come in above the commission's acceptable levels of the hormone, which nixed his participation in the event. UFC president Dana White immediately released him from his contract.

Illinois commission nixes Andreas Kraniotakes' participation in ProElite 2 main event
(mmajunkie.com)
The same day Andreas Kraniotakes took to MMAjunkie.com Radio and discussed his long-awaited big-show opportunity at next month's ProElite 2 event, the heavyweight was scratched from the event. On Wednesday, Kraniotakes (12-4) posted a video message saying he was forced out of his headliner with ex-UFC heavyweight champ Tim Sylvia (29-7). According to a report from MMAFighting.com, an unidentified replacement fighter has been selected and awaits commission approval. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) could not immediately reach commission or ProElite officials for comment. In fact, it was the Illinois State Professional Athletic Commission that halted Kraniotakes' participation in the event. Officials denied the fighter a license due to the German's lack of sanctioned fights on his pro record. ProElite 2 takes place Nov. 5 at iWireless Center in Moline, Ill. The main card airs on HDNet.

VFC 36 results: Salas tops Ellenberger, begs for a UFC shot nex
(mmamania.com)
Justin Salas and Joe Ellenberger are seen by many as the two best 155-pound fighters not yet signed to a major mixed martial arts (MMA) organization. That may have changed for one of them last night (Oct. 14, 2011) at Victory Fighting Championship (VFC) 36 at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Salas earned a hard fought unanimous decision over Ellenberger in the main event of the evening. Both fighters knew that winning this fight could lead to more than the VFC title, which wasn't lost on Salas during the post fight interview, during which he called for a chance to compete in Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). When two fighters with such good wrestling backgrounds square off, it’s either a lay and pray snooze fest or non-stop action. This fight was definitely the latter. Both fighters showed what a true MMA fight looks like. Salas and Ellenberger went from going for the knockout to ground-and-pound to submission attempts, with a good dose of "Holy Sh*t" moments thrown in on both sides. Whether it would be Salas’s big right hooks of Ellenberger’s flying knees, the crowd was on their feet for the entire five round affair.

Cage Warriors implements mandatory blood testing, steroid testing possible in future
(mmajunkie.com)
With no regulatory body present, the U.K.-based Cage Warriors organization has implemented its own mandatory blood testing for all fighters. Officials announced the plans on Tuesday. Currently, the testing will be used to identify infections such as HIV and hepatitis B and C, but a Cage Warriors officials said it could be expanded to include additional testing, including steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. The British Boxing Board of Control currently mandates blood testing, but the regulatory body oversees just boxing, not MMA. That's why the UFC regulates its own shows in the U.K. and why the organization has implemented its own blood testing.

After Cage Warriors 44 win, Brian Foster heads to CCCW 7 on Oct. 15
(mmajunkie.com)
After returning from a near-year-long layoff and scoring an impressive victory over Jack Mason at this past weekend's Cage Warriors 44 event, UFC vet Brian Foster is set for his next bout. Foster (16-5) fights in two weeks when he meets fellow UFC vet Laverne Clark (27-18-1) at Capital City Cage Wars 7. The fight takes place Oct. 15 at Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Ill. It's the latest stop on the comeback trail for Foster. Although performance hasn't been an issue – he won three of his final four UFC bouts and is now 4-1 overall in his past five fights – some health scares prompted his UFC medical release. First came a vicious blow during training that resulted in a burst testicle and its removal. Then, prior to a UFC 129 bout with Sean Pierson, Foster underwent a CT scan that detected a brain hemorrhage. A trio of doctors ultimately cleared Foster, but UFC officials suggested Foster pick up some outside wins before returning to the organization. Foster got the first one on Saturday in London with an impressive first-round submission victory over British notable Jack Mason (17-9).
