ONE FC Heading to 16,500 Capacity Stadium in Manila, 18 Shows Planned for 2013
(mmamania.com)
After selling out the Stadium Negara in Malaysia, ONE Fighting Championship is headed to the Philippines for what promises to be the most ambitious show the promotion has put on yet. The 16,500 capacity Arenata Coliseum is best known for playing host to the boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier in 1975 and on August 31st, mixed martial arts (MMA) is set for its own 'Thriller in Manila'. URCC champions Eduard Folayang (11-2), Roy Docyogen (10-0), Kevin Belingon (9-1). Eric Kelly (7-0) and Honorio Banario (6-1) are all likely to be in action which should give the fans plenty to cheer about while the card is also expected to see the ONE FC debut of legendary lightweight Shinya Aoki. ONE FC has made phenomenal progress since being formed just 12 months ago and has already put on events in Singapore, Jakarta and, most recently, Kuala Lumpur. A major MMA show had never been attempted in Malaysia before but ONE FC was able to sell out the biggest indoor arena in the country at the first attempt.

One FC’ s Zorobabel Moreira Explains Soccer Kick Finish of Roger Huerta
(mmaweekly.com)
If you didn’t know the name Zorobabel Moreira prior to last weekend’s One FC event, you probably remember him now after his vicious soccer kick knockout win over Roger Huerta. Moreira took the fight on short notice and jumped up to welterweight to accept the fight with Huerta. The Brazilian dismantled the former UFC fighter and finished the bout in the 2nd round with a soccer kick that rang back to the days of Pride Fighting Championships. The finish didn’t come without some controversy due to the rules upheld by One FC that allow for kicks on a downed opponent only when the referee gives the fighter the okay to do so. There has been some controversy about the finish since it happened so Moreira sat down with MMAWeekly.com and explained the fight, the win and the finish as well as what’s next

Kendall Grove Back With Tito Ortiz To Improve His Wrestling Game
(www.bjpenn.com)
Grove the winner of The Ultimate Fighter Season 3 was cut from the UFC after back to back losses to Demian Maia and Tim Boetsch, since leaving the UFC Grove has gone (3-1) most recently defeating Derek Brunson via split-decision.

I was training for a five-foot-nine stand-up boxer (in Terry Martin) and then four days before the fight I found out I had to fight six-foot-one wrestler Derek Brunson and had to switch it up last minute.
He also comments on travelling to Big Bear from his native Hawaii to train with his former Ultimate Fighter 3 coach Tito Ortiz.

I’m actually headed out to Big Bear to help Tito train for his upcoming fight (at UFC 148),” said Grove. “Definitely training with Tito is going fill a loss in my game, which is my wrestling. I’d like to get back into that, the high-caliber wrestling, that I lack that here in Maui.

Corey Hill Signs New Deal with XFC
(mmavalor.com)
Just months after making his XFC debut, Corey Hill has come to terms with the East Coast MMA promotion on a long-term contract. It’s a deal that could possibly give Hill a future title shot with the Xtreme Fighting Championships. John Prisco, XFC President & matchmaker, who has added numerous fighters to the roster already in 2012, disclosed the signing early this morning. Hill, who is best known for his appearance on TUF 5 & stellar showings in the UFC, suffered one of the most gruesome leg breaks in MMA history, back in 2008. Almost 13 months later he was back to full strength, in even better condition, and made his debut at XFC 15 with a win over fellow TUF contestant Charlie Rader. It took Corey Hill only minutes to finish off Rader with a Brabo choke, to successfully complete the comeback just before the end of round 1. The performance proved Hill, now 33 years old, is still one of the top competitors in the welterweight division.

Jorge Santiago Celebrates Latest Win with Decision to Move Down to Welterweight
(mmaweekly.com)
In his last two fights, Santiago has gone 2-0 with stoppages in both bouts while competing in Titan Fighting Championships. His latest bout just last Friday, it took Santiago only 94 seconds to put away Justin Guthrie with a nasty inverted heel hook. The funny thing is, that’s not even something Santiago practices on even a semi-regular basis. Following a tough run in only two fights back in the UFC, Santiago is starting to breathe again and find new life with his team at the Blackzilians in Florida. As an original member of the camp, it took Santiago a little while to acclimate to the new team and new trainers, but he’s now found himself and the results are starting to show. “This is not the new, but the old Jorge Santiago from Japan. The old one, nothing else distracts me anymore, the only thing I have to do now is go out there and fight the way I like to fight, that’s it. Everything is getting more light for me, even the weight,” said Santiago. The weight comment holds an extra special meaning because following his last fight in Titan Fighting over the weekend, Santiago decided that he would be dropping down to 170lbs and testing the welterweight division.

Though sober, Drew Fickett says a loss tonight could result in homelessness
(mmajunkie.com)
Every fighter carries emotional baggage into the cage. Drew Fickett's, though, could stuff the hull of a 747. The veteran fighter, who's recently tried to bring stability to his infamously chaotic life, makes his 60th pro appearance at tonight's ShoFIGHT 20 event. He'll enter the cage with six weeks of sobriety, a new fight team behind him, and the real threat of homelessness if he doesn't get a victory. "I'm facing pressure in this fight, but I've been through so much in my life recently that honestly, I'm not nervous at all," Fickett told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) earlier this week. "If I don't win this fight, I'm pretty much homeless." Fickett (42-17) meets jiu-jitsu ace Jonatas Novaes (9-4) tonight in a featured bout at ShoFIGHT 20, which takes place at O'Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, Mo. The event airs via tape-delayed pay-per-view on July 1, though Canadian fans can watch it live on The Fight Network at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT).

UFC Vets Karo Parisyan And Kendall Grove Look To Rebound At Shofight
(mmanews.com)
The sport of mixed martial arts is tough. There is no disputing that. Fighters experience ups and downs, wins and losses, and make sacrifices to be the very best they can be. Staying committed when you’re winning can be easy. It’s when losses come that combat athletes find out how committed they really are to the fight game. Two fighters in such a position are former UFC stalwarts Karo “The Heat’ Parisyan and Kendall “Da Spyder” Grove. On June 16th in Springfield, Missouri, both will tangle with ultra-tough opponents, as Parisyan will battle fellow UFC vet John Gunderson, and Grove will lock horns with UFC/Strikeforce vet Terry Martin. The winner of the Parisyan-Gunderson tilt will be awarded the first ShoFIGHT welterweight belt, while either Grove or Martin will go home with ShoFIGHT middleweight strap. In short, it’s a big fight for all the competitors involved. PPV broadcast details will be announced soon.
