Bellator's Joe Warren eyes 145-pound title, but bantamweight and DREAM also on tap
(mmajunkie.com) Bellator Fighting Championships featherweight contender Joe Warren (4-1 MMA, 2-0 BFC) has impressed MMA observers in his current run with a controlling style and an unrelenting pace.
But despite a pair of Bellator season two wins over Georgi Karakhanyan and Eric Marriott, the former Greco-Roman wrestling world champion says he's still figuring out the game of mixed martial arts.
Give him a little more time, Warren says, and he'll be nearly unstoppable – especially when he drops down to a more natural weightclass.
Bellator 115-LBs Women's Tourney Taking Shape
(mmaweekly.com) Bellator Fighting Championships recently began a push into women’s mixed martial arts announcing the signing of Megumi Fuji and Rosi Sexton, widely regarded as two of the top female fighters in the world.
Late last week, Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney talked with a little bit more detail regarding the promotion’s plans for an eight-woman tournament.
“The goal and the entire idea was to put together a tournament with the greatest female fighters in the world: Megumi Fuji, Rosi Sexton we’ve announced; Jessica Penne, Lisa Ward, as well.”
I think Bellator has been doing great job and with Strikeforce really dropping the ball in alot of ways Bellator is in a great position to slide into the number two spot. I just wish I could see the fights on Thursday nights...Comcast has not been airing them at all where I live...the format is great and will definitely be sending guys into the UFC before too long...and they can really capitalize on the womens division...its always been said that a tourney would be a great way to develop the division quickly and now they are making it happen....what is wrong with Strikeforce?
First Hands On Look At EA MMA
(gamespot.com) A lot of competitors can talk a good game, but the true test of a fighter is how he performs in the ring. We have heard a lot about EA Sports MMA, from the developer’s goals when crafting the game to detailed descriptions about the controls, but it wasn’t until yesterday at the EA3 event that we were able to take the Xbox 360 controller and step into the ring. Read on for our impressions of how the controls feel, as well as more details on how submissions are handled (hint: frantic button mashers need not apply).

Sylvia Makes Pudzianowski Tap to Strikes
(sherdog.com) WORCESTER, Mass. -- Tim Sylvia crashed Mariusz Pudzianowski’s party on Friday, forcing the Polish strongman to tap to strikes in the second round atop a surprisingly eventful “Moosin: God of Martial Arts” pay-per-view.
Central Massachusetts took on the atmosphere of Warsaw as the charismatic Pudzianowski, five-time World’s Strongest Man, attracted throngs of screaming Poles to the DCU Center in Worcester. To dueling chants of “Pudzia!” and “USA!,” the barrel-chested, 273-pound Pudzianowski took down the former UFC heavyweight champion in the opening moments of the super heavyweight fight. In doing so, Pudzianowski almost blew the roof off the place, but he suffered a cut to the top of his head in the fracas.
Bellator 19 recap: Soto stops Saraiva; Askren and Hornbuckle book finals date
(mmajunkie.com) UFC veteran Diego Saraiva hoped to make a statement in his featured non-title bout with Bellator featherweight champion Joe Soto.
Instead, it was the undefeated Nor-Cal Fighting Alliance product that made the statement.
Soto needed just five minutes to earn a doctor's stoppage in the main event of Thursday's Bellator 19 event at the Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas.
Saraiva worked well on his feet early, but Soto was able to work the fight to the canvas. From there, Soto rained down blows from top position, and the damage started to show. Saraiva remained active from his back and looked to threaten with a submission, but Soto elbows opened up a massive cut on his opponent's head. Saraiva made it to the bell, but doctor's quickly assessed his wound and called a halt to the bout.
Bellator Announces Sexton Signing & Women's Tourney
(mmaweekly.com) Bellator Fighting Championships on Thursday night announced two bits of news related to the promotion moving into the realm of women’s mixed martial arts. Rosi Sexton, widely regarded as one of, if not the top 125-pound female fighter in the world, has signed an exclusive contract with Bellator. Details of the contract were not disclosed. The promotion also confirmed that it will move forward with plans for a 115-pound women’s tournament as part of Season 3, which begins on Aug. 12. Bellator did not clarify whether or not Sexton would be part of the tournament. She recently made the move to 115 pounds, so it is likely that Sexton would be in the tournament.

Shine Fights Cancellation Explained - Matchmaker Resigns
(mmaweekly.com) The fallout from the Shine Fights cancellation from the weekend continues into the new week as matchmaker Ron Foster has now resigned from the promotion amidst speculation of disorder and disorganization at the event in North Carolina on Saturday. The North Carolina Boxing Authority has also responded with why the event was canceled and it had nothing to do with Ricardo Mayorga.
On Monday morning, Ron Foster announced his resignation to fighters and managers by sending an e-mail saying that he was stepping down from his duties as matchmaker for Shine Fights. When reached for comment on Monday by MMAWeekly.com, Foster was traveling at the time, and requested more time for an official response.
Bellator Wants To Make Gilbert Melendez Vs. Eddie Alvarez Happen
(mmanews.com)
CHICAGO, Ill. (May 15, 2010) – Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney responded today to Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez’s call-out of reigning Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez, saying that he will do everything in his power to make the fight happen.
Shine Fights exec still unsure why card was canceled, vows to return in summer
(mmajunkie.com) While the North Carolina Boxing Authority's decision to cancel Saturday night's Shine Fights event is just hours old, the levity of the situation has already been fully realized by the promotion's CEO, Devin Price.
"It's definitely sunk in," Price told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "This is definitely reality. It's not the reality I was hoping for, but it's definitely reality."
But what Price said he doesn't fully realize yet is why. Why did the commission pull the plug when everyone else involved was prepared to move forward – even without the participation of former boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga?
BREAKING: Tonight's Shine Fights Event CANCELLED
(mmajunkie.com) Just hours after Shine Fights broadcaster Karyn Bryant informed the world that Ricardo Mayorga had been officially pulled from tonight's Shine Fights pay-per-view event, the entire event has been scrapped. "[North Carolina] commission cancels Shine Fights," Bryant posted on her Twitter account. No further information is available at this time.

Paulo Filho faces Denis Kang at Impact FC
(portaldovaletudo.uol.com.br) The promoter of Impact FC, Tom Huggins, just let us know firsthand that Paulo Filho will face Denis Kang in the 3rd edition of his event scheduled for July 17, 2010, in Australia. The fight would be the final of the Pride GP (up to 84kg), which did not happen due to an injury of Paulo Filho. On the occasion Misaki Kazushi, who had been submitted by Filho in the semifinals, came back and won against Kang in the jury decision, winning the championship belt of the GP.
So what do you think the chances are that this fight actually happens?
Bellator 17 ratings up 184 percent from season-two debut event
(mmajunkie.com) Bellator Fighting Championships officials were pleased with the ratings earned by the promotion's Bellator 13 card, the debut event for the group's second season.
They're likely downright giddy over the latest numbers from the company's FOX Sports Net broadcasts.
Bellator officials today announced that the ratings for the May 6 Bellator 17 event were up 184 percent from the season-two debut four weeks prior.
Bellator 17, which took place at Boston's Wang Theatre, featured Eddie Alvarez's "super fight" win over Josh Neer and Pat Curran's stunning decision win over lightweight tournament favorite Roger Huerta.
Buentello To Return In Shark Fights Main Event
(mmaweekly.com) Following his exit from the UFC, Paul Buentello will re-emerge on May 22 at Shark Fights 11 to face undefeated prospect Bryan Humes in the main event at Ector County Coliseum in Odessa, Texas.
The winner of the bout will become the No. 1 contender to the Shark Fights heavyweight title currently held by Darrel Schoonover.
Karo Parisyan headed to Australia for Impact FC, fights Luis Dutra Jr.
(mmajunkie.com) Karo Parisyan is moving on with his fight career and will appear at Impact FC in Australia on July 10.
Parisyan today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he has agreed to fight Brazilian Luis Dutra Jr. on the card Down Under. MMAjunkie.com reported earlier today that the former UFC welterweight's potential Strikeforce contract fell through.
"I [haven't] fought for a year-and-a-half, (so) it's exciting," Parisyan said. "Time to get on top again."
The Armenian-American fighter declined to comment on his Strikeforce negotiations other than to say the potential deal was a six-fight contract...

Ken Shamrock to Fight Pedro Rizzo at July 17 Impact FC Event
(mmafighting.com) Ken Shamrock is currently penned in to face Pedro Rizzo and not Mark Coleman at Impact FC on July 17 in Australia, MMAFighting.com has confirmed with promoters.
The Shamrock-Coleman matchup had been discussed but no agreement was reached.
I believe this is on the same card as Ninja- Jeremy May and I have read Semtex maybe fighting on this card too. Whoever wins this one should move into the top ten P4P discussion.
Jeremy May Versus Murilo Ninja Rua For Impact FC
(mmarecap.com) MMA Recap has learned from sources close to the fighters' camps that Jeremy May will take on Murilo "Ninja" Rua at Impact FC's first show on July 3rd. The event takes place in Aukland, New Zealand.
Mayorga vs. Thomas Remains in Jeopardy Over Term 'Bout'
(mmafighting.com) In the court battle over whether boxer Ricardo Mayorga is contractually free to pursue his MMA debut against former UFC fighter Din Thomas at this Saturday's Shine Fights event in North Carolina, a lot may depend on what the definition of the word "bout" is.
Last week, Don King Productions filed a motion in a Florida court for preliminary injunctive relief to stop Mayorga's participation in the Shine Fights 3 pay-per-view event, alleging that Mayorga is violating his exclusive promotional contract with DKP by engaging in the MMA bout.
