Pit Bosses: Premature Thoughts on YAMMA Fighting
(sherdog.com)
Not since the progeny of singer David Bowie was christened Zowie -- swear to God -- has popular culture suffered a name as patently offensive to good taste as YAMMA Pit Fighting, the latest in the me-too march of MMA offerings. Too harsh by half? Perhaps, but with two months to go before YAMMA makes its official debut at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, N.J., there's precious little else about the promotion to comment on. Pit Fighting founder Bob Meyrowitz -- there's one for the résumé -- has been evasive in questions pertaining to the YAMMA fighting surface, alleged to revolutionize how we view the combat sports. No participants have been officially announced, though it's known that Meyrowitz plans on dusting off combatants from the UFC's heyday for a series of "Master" class super fights. The event will also use a single-night tournament to crown champions, a dubious honor awarded more for luck than skill. Couple this with the rumored reunion tour of New Kids on the Block, and you'll forgive anyone who mistakes 2008 for 1994.

Lauzon Wins in WCF; ‘Upgrade' to WEC Near?
(sherdog.com)

WILMINGTON, Mass., Feb. 8 -- Dan Lauzon had quite a bit on the line when he entered the ring Friday just outside of Boston to take on Frank Latina at World Championship Fighting. With the Tapout reality show crew there to chronicle his preparation and a potential WEC bid in the offing, not to mention the added pressure of fighting in front of his hometown fans, Lauzon came through with flying colors.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that Dan told me he was "shooting for the end of this year" when I asked him if he wanted back in the UFC

UFC Creator Bob Meyrowitz Announces New MMA Promotion
(mmajunkie.com)
Bob Meyrowitz, the founder of the world-famous Ultimate Fighting Championship, is starting a new fight league called YAMMA Pit Fighting (YPF) that will focus on tournament-style events, the organization today announced. The first event, which airs on pay-per-view, will takes place April 11 at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, N.J. Tournaments require winning fighters to compete at least twice per night. The format was popular in the early days of the UFC but eventually fizzled out due to fighter safety and pressure from state athletic commissions. However, back in November, Strikeforce held the first-ever tournament sanctioned in California and promised future ones in 2008 Tournament idea sounds great, a moving surface sounds way too gimmicy, hope they don't go that way. If they did it would ruin the legitimacy of the promotion, for me anyway.

Rick Bassman Files Lawsuit Against WCO's Bruce Bellocchi
(mmanews.com)
In what becomes the next step in the saga of the cancelled WCO event on January 12th. Rick Bassman, owner of Valor Fighting and Management, has filed suit against WCO Promoter Bruce Bellocchi. Bassman, who met up with Bruce Bellocchi back in October of '07, had some of his fighters fighting on Bellocchi's Nov '07 card. After meeting up with Bellocchi, who Bassman calls "charming and seductive", discussions began about Bassman and Bellocchi doing buisness together to promote a card in January. The deal was that Valor fighting would be providing their license to promote events to Bellocchi so as to put on the January 12th show. In short, the contract stated that the WCO would handle all marketing and pre negotiation with fighters to decide on their purses. Valor would be providing the license and be handling all production, something they had a lot of experience in. Financially, the contract stated that WCO would pay $20,000 to rent the license. Two main clauses in the contract were that WCO would cover all cost for the show and the second was that Valor had no financial responsibility for costs pretaining to the show
