Revolutionary new ONE Championship weigh in policy following death of fighter
The culture of extreme weight cutting in MMA is arguably the most dangerous aspect of a dangerous sport, and various steps are being take to address it.
Earlier this month, Chinese flyweight Yang Jian Bing died while making weight with ONE Championship. He was just 21. ONE has crafted a tremendous new weight cutting policy in response.
The step is extraordinary. Weigh-cutting via dehydration is now over in the organization. This is a first for professional combat sports, and deserves both praise, and copying.
Michigan Fighter Dom O'Grady Passes Away
Michigan fighter Dom O’Grady has passed away, according to multiple reports.
The 34-year-old fighter had a heart attack in his sleep over night on Monday night, according to friend and Michigan-based ring announcer Phil Davey.
O’Grady, who hailed from St. Clair Shores, Michigan, made his way to mixed martial arts after being bullied as a kid and then becoming a black belt in judo.
Throughout his life he was a spokesperson and advocate for anti-bullying, and he wanted the opportunity to show kids that martial arts could change their lives in the same way they did his.

ROAD FC Middleweight Champion Riki Fukuda faces Cha Jung-Hwan at ROAD FC 028
Riki Fukuda cut a clear path to the ROAD FC Middleweight Championship in 2014 and 2015. The consummate UFC veteran dispatched all comers to end up on a 4-fight win streak of finishes. Earning the championship belt meant earning a 6-figure paycheck as well, and fans can bet that Riki isn’t willing to relinquish either anytime soon. His grinding aggression will surely be turned up a notch as he meets an unlikely – and tricky – first challenger in Cha Jung-Hwan.
ONE Championship announces full calendar for 2016
One Championship has announced its entire 2016 schedule on Monday.
Starting on Jan. 23, with a fight card at the Changsa Stadium in China, the promotion will hold 14 events next year, including trips to new markets in Thailand, Vietnam and Hong Kong. Besides the 14 fight cards announced, the promotion will still put on 10 other shows in China, with dates and locations yet to be announced.

After making a spectacular WSOF debut this past November Mike “The Martian” Ricci looks to get right back in the cage when he meets new signee Caros “The Future” Fodor at WSOF 27.

Shamrock will corner his brother against Royce
The Shamrock brothers will be back together again.
Frank Shamrock will be in the corner of his adopted brother Ken when Ken fights Royce Gracie at Bellator 149 on Feb. 19 in Houston, Ken said Wednesday at a media day. Frank will also formulate Ken's strategy for what will be Ken's third time fighting his fellow MMA legend.

First-ever women’s flyweight title fight added to CFFC 55
The first-ever women’s flyweight title fight in organization history has been added to next month’s CFFC 55, as Katlyn Chookagian (5-0) will take on Isabelly Varella (7-0) for the inaugural belt.
Renzo Gracie/All Star BJJ product Chookagian is undefeated as a pro and is already a WSOF veteran along with holding a 2-0 record under the CFFC banner. She was also 7-0 as an amateur, including winning the NAAFS women’s title in 2013. The New Jersey native most recently competed on Halloween, when she defeated Sijara Eubanks via decision at CFFC 52.
WSOF-GC 2 Japan Press Release – Omigawa & Watanabe
World Series of Fighting – Global Championship (WSOF-GC) has added two more legends of Japanese MMA to their ever-growing roster. Both Michihiro Omigawa and Hisae Watanabe have agreed to compete at WSOF-GC 2 Japan on February 7 in Tokyo.
“It’s amazing to add two more of the very best Japanese fighters of all time to our ever-expanding roster,” states WSOF-GC Vice President of Operations and Matchmaker, Jason Lilly. “Omigawa and Watanabe are synonymous with Japanese MMA and add an extra level of excitement to our show. The two of them combined with the addition of Akihiro Gono makes this a true ‘Legends of Japan’ event.”
David Jordan vs. Johnny Nunez added to WSOF 26, Andreas Spang withdraws
The nine-bout lineup for this week’s WSOF 26 event has been finalized with the addition of a lightweight matchup between Jonathan Nunez (5-1) and David Jordan (3-3).
Additionally, Andreas Spang (9-3) has contracted pneumonia and withdrawn from the card, scrapping a planned matchup with Kelvin Tiller (7-1), who had agreed to replace Shamil Gamzatov (9-0).
WSOF officials today announced the changes.
RIZIN announces BARUTO vs. Jérôme Le Banner for 12/31
RIZIN FF has announced the debut of Kaido Höövelson, better known as; BARUTO. He will take on combat sports legend Jérôme Le Banner on December 31.
30-year-old Baruto (0-0) will be making his MMA debut following his run as a sumo-wrestler which gained him popularity in Japan. After suffering some injuries, Höövelson has transitioned to MMA and has trained under the supervision of world class fighters like Peter Aerts and Akira Shoji.
42-year-old combat sports legend Le Banner (3-2-1, 81-22-2 KB) has been fighting professionally for almost 20 years but has not competed in MMA since December of 2010 where he lost to Satoshi Ishii via decision. He went 2-0 in kickboxing this year, including a knockout and a decision. Along with the experience in MMA and kickboxing, Le Banner has an undefeated boxing record at 6-0 w/ five knockouts.
This fight will take place as the co-main event of RIZIN 2, headlined by Fedor Emelianenko, on December 31.
ONE Championship Vice President Rich Franklin issues statement on Chi Lewis-Parry situation
Before he stepped foot into the cage to face Brandon Vera for the inaugural ONE Championship heavyweight title, Chi Lewis-Parry made headlines – for all the wrong reasons.
After failing to submit his medical records and drug test results before the Dec. 11 clash, the undefeated Lewis-Parry was removed from his fight against Vera. None too pleased, Vera ripped Lewis-Parry in a video to his Facebook page (NSFW language).
In the wake of this, ONE Championship Vice President and former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin issued a statement via ONE's Facebook fan page, summarizing the situation and detailing exactly what happened and why.
Next week's Titan FC 36 event canceled, CEO's 'health issues' cited
Next week’s Titan FC 36 event, which was slated to stream on UFC Fight Pass, has been canceled.
Officials made the announcement on Wednesday, citing CEO Jeff Aronson’s “health complications related to an unexpected surgical procedure.”
The event was slated for Dec. 18 at Kansas City Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Mo. Current Titan FC flyweight champion Tim Elliott (12-6-1) was scheduled to fight fellow ex-UFC fighter Pedro Nobre (17-1-2) in the headliner of the card, which was expected to feature more than a dozen bouts.
