UFC and WEC Veterans to Bolster MFC Middleweight Division
The Maximum Fighting Championship has recently added three new fighters to it’s ever-growing middleweight division - Rory Singer and Solomon Hutcherson, who were both featured on the third season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show as well as former World Extreme Cagefighting middleweight contender Bryan Baker.
Singer and Baker have signed to fight each other at MFC 20 on February 20 while Hutcherson could make his promotional debut on the card as well if Mark Pavelich and company are able to find a suitable opponent for him in time for the event.
Kitaoka, Santiago Crowned By Sengoku
SAITAMA, Japan -- Satoru Kitaoka and Jorge Santiago were crowned champions after they finished their opponents by submission at Sengoku “No Ran 2009” on Sunday before some 18,000 fans at the Saitama Super Arena.
In the main event, Kitaoka kept true to his word, as he put away Takanori Gomi before the former Pride Fighting Championships lightweight king could do anything of note. Sizing up each other for a tense moment, Kitaoka was the first to act, as he dove for a takedown. Gomi spun out of the way to avoid the shot, but the persistent Kitaoka made another attempt and ate a grazing hook in the process.
Eddie Alvarez Gearing Up For ESPN-Bellator
As the sport of mixed martial arts continues to grow all over the world, Bellator Fighting Championships may be the biggest expansion into the Latin market that has been made so far. Debuting on ESPN Deportes in 2009, Bellator made a huge move last month signing on No. 2 ranked lightweight Eddie Alvarez to fight in its inaugural tournament and fight for them beginning in April next year.
Lashley needs just 41 seconds in MMA debut, Monson defeats Rodriguez
Highly touted WWE import Bobby Lashley (1-0) made quick work of fellow mixed martial arts rookie Joshua Franklin (0-1).
Lashley needed just 41 seconds to dispose of his opponent in the co-main event of Saturday night's "Mixed Fight Alliance: There Will be Blood" in Miami, Fla. Lashley appeared in the event while on loan from the American Fight League.
The inaugural card for the Mixed Fight Alliance also featured a unanimous decision win by ten-year veteran Jeff Monson (27-8) over former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez (34-10).
