MMA Fastball: Fedor Emelianenko erases all doubt
(mmafighting.com)
It’s called fastball for a reason, folks. Now let’s get to it. Fedor erases all doubt who the number one heavyweight in the world is: When Fedor was the PRIDE Heavyweight Champion almost everyone— especially this writer—was absolutely convinced that he was the best heavyweight MMA fighter in the world. Along with this, most were pretty sure that he would dispose of his UFC counterparts quite easily. But then two things happened. First PRIDE fell and Fedor found himself out of work, creating a situation by which he went over two years without fighting a heavyweight contender. Second, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic went over to the UFC and performed very poorly, causing most people’s confidence in the former PRIDE organization’s heavyweight division to be shaken. But then came July 19th and Affliction: Banned. If you’re still doubting Fedor’s greatness after his 36 second destruction of former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Tim Sylvia, something is wrong.

Terry Martin well-prepared to bounce back from recent defeat
(mmajunkie.com)
On July 19 Terry Martin (17-6) suffered a crushing knockout defeat at the hands of a resurgent Vitor Belfort at Affliction's debut event, "Banned." But if anyone can overcome adversity, it's Martin, a Chicago native who has been seemingly fighting to survive since grade school. The hard-hitting knockout artist divulged a very personal side of his non-fighting life while a guest on a recent edition of TAGG Radio (www.taggradio.com), the official radio partner of MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), and revealed a Terry Martin that many fans don't know. "A lot of people don't know this, but I had gangbanged my whole life -- since the age of 10," Martin admitted.

Fedor gets more than $300,000 for win over Tim Sylvia at Affliction
(mmamania.com)
Props: NBCSports.com Quoteworthy: “… Emelianenko received a sizable part of his Affliction contract up front in the form of a signing bonus, and added that Emelianenko also owns the rights to his fight footage in several European countries. That second part may not mean much right now but if Affliction chooses to hold an event in Europe, they would have to pay him for the footage.”

Healy Shocks Ford, Wins MFC Title
(mmaontap.com)
Longtime veteran Pat Healy’s experience came in handy tonight as he overcame an extremely rough start against rising prospect Ryan Ford to surprisingly submit Ford with a third-round armbar in the main event of Maximum Fighting Championship’s latest showing at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton. The first round saw Ford fight for a successful takedown during the beginning moments. Pinning Healy in the corner, Ford worked some ground-and-pound before Healy was able to force a scramble. Healy nearly caught Ford with an armbar but Ford was able to slip out and stand up before slamming Healy down once again just before the round’s end.

Fresh off his unanimous decision victory over Fabio Negao at Affliction: Banned, former Olympic silver medalist Matt Lindland already has designs on his next opponent. “I would love to fight (Vitor) Belfort,” Lindland is quoted as saying by Gary Herman of CBSSports.com. “He’s a legend in the sport. Fighting against Terry Martin in a bout televised on Fox Sports Net, the native Brazilian knocked out Martin at 3:12 of round 2.

No Horodecki: Gomi to fight Pang at "Sengoku 4"
(mmajunkie.com)
Longtime PRIDE champion and highly ranked lightweight Takanori Gomi (28-3) will fight reigning DEEP lightweight champion Sung Hwan Pang (5-1) at next month's Sengoku 4 event. The Japanese-based World Victory Road today released the Aug. 24 fight card, which includes the opening round of a lightweight grand prix and a former star of the all-but-dead International Fight League. The event takes place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The Gomi-Hwan booking will likely come as a suprise to many fans; IFL star and MMA prodigy Chris Horodecki (13-1) had long been reported as Gomi's likely opponent. However, a source close to the fighter tells MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Horodecki is currently in negotiations with, among other organizations, the up-and-coming American Fight League, an organization that garnered recent headlines with the signings of former WWE star Bobby Lashley, top female fighter Tara LaRosa (with a contract worth more than $500,000) and many former UFC fighters.

Afflictions gate numbers and PPV buys might be inflated
(cagepotato.com)
"The big question we’ve been waiting to hear an answer to this week is, what of Affliction’s pay-per-view numbers? VP Tom Atencio claimed they did “well over” 100,000 buys. He also said, in the post-fight press conference, that he’d be releasing the numbers on Thursday or Friday of this week. And yet, so far nothing official." Looks like Affliction's numbers on PPV buys might be closer to 50-85,000. Lots of interesting info in this article:

Ford-Healy Headlines MFC’s Latest Sellout
(mmaontap.com)
Rising prospect Ryan Ford will try to make good on his bid for Maximum Fighting Championship’s welterweight title this weekend as he takes on longtime veteran Pat Healy in the promotion’s latest event at the River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada tomorrow night. “I’ve wanted to have Pat Healy in the MFC for some time,” MFC President Mark Pavelich said in a recent press release. “Ryan has never wavered one bit in his confidence and it doesn’t matter to him who he fights for the title. Pat is one of the toughest and most dangerous fighters anywhere. When these two guys collide in the middle of the ring, there is going to be an unbelievable explosion of speed, power and aggression. Our beautiful new title belt will deservedly go to the winner of this clash.”

Babalu Against Ortiz ?
(fiveouncesofpain.com)
One of the more interesting comments to come from the recent Affliction show was from Renato “Babalu” Sobral. Babalu made it very clear who he wants to fight next. I told Tom Atencio who the one guy I want him to sign is,” said Sobral, “Tito Ortiz is my dream fight.” A potential Sobral vs. Ortiz would be a big one for Affliction - mainly because it would mean they have Ortiz under contract. It would also have a lot of appeal to the casual fan because Babalu is a name most people are familiar with from his fights with Chuck Liddell. Affliction could position the winner as its first light heavyweight champion.
