ONE FC's Ole Laursen returns to kickboxing against top ranked Giorgio Petrosyan this March
This March, one of Asia's biggest MMA stars in Ole Laursen makes his kickboxing return against one of the best in the sport, in Giorgio Petrosyan.
Earlier this year, Ole Laursen notched the biggest win of his MMA career after a highly entertaining back and forth war against Eduard Folayang. Unfortunately, the ONE FC star wasn't able to follow up on that instant classic, and has been on the shelf for quite some time now.
The Filipino-Danish fighter has already booked his next fight, but it looks like it won't be in Mixed Martial Arts. The former Muay Thai champ announced that on March, which is roughly a year since his last ONE FC bout, he will be getting off the bench and will be making a return to his kickboxing roots.
Boxing legend Hector 'Macho' Camacho shot in the face, declared brain dead
Puerto Rican boxing legend and former world champion Hector "Macho" Camacho was declared brain dead earlier today after getting shot in the face in San Juan.
I know a lot of mixed martial arts (MMA) fans are also fans of the "sweet science," and I'm sure you won't be pleased to hear that Puerto Rican boxing legend Hector "Macho" Camacho was declared brain dead by his doctor earlier today after getting shot in the face in San Juan.
From ABC News:
Camacho was rushed to the Rio Piedras Medical Center in San Juan last night after a gunman shot him in the face while he was in his car with a friend near a shopping mall in the town of Bayamón.
Torres said that a bullet aimed at Camacho's face, was deflected by his jaw, and made it's way to the top of the boxer's spinal chord, which means that if Camacho survives he could have trouble walking, or may even be paralyzed.

K-1 Great Remy Bonjasky Announces His Return From Retirement
Kickboxing great Remy Bonjasky has announced his return to the ring, but it won't be in K-1. The three time K-1 World Grand Prix champion has signed a multi-fight deal with K-1 rival Glory World Series. From the official statement:
I am really excited about GLORY, really enthusiastic about the people behind it and what they are trying to do for the sport. There are new, fresh minds involved and they are looking to take the sport to a new level, to make it bigger than it already is.
I achieved great things in K-1 and now I think the new challenge is GLORY, I think they can make the sport bigger than K-1 did.
Bonjasky retired after the 2009 K-1 Grand Prix due to a recurring eye injury that was threatening to leave him blind. Since that time, there have been rumors of a possible Bonjasky return, but without a big Heavyweight scene due to the demise of K-1, it looked like the retirement would stick. Now, with both K-1 and Glory back in action, Bonjasky has returned.
Floyd Mayweather begins jail sentence today (June 1) at Clark County Detention Center
Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. could have gotten 34 years in prison after getting slapped with domestic violence charges stemming from a 2010 incident involving the mother of three of his kids.
Starting today (June 1, 2012) he'll serve just 87 days.
That's because "Money" plead guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery and no contest to two harassment charges, prompting prosecutors to drop felony charges prior to his sentencing back on Dec. 22, 2011. Mayweather remained free as part of a plea deal that allowed him to fight Miguel Cotto last month in "Sin City."
The undefeated pugilist must now surrender to Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa, who will then make arrangements to have him transported to the Clark County Detention Center for detainment.
The Associated Press has a description of Mayweather's new pad after the jump.
Nick Diaz no-shows Brazilian jiu-jitsu super fight against Braulio Estima
Nick Diaz was all set to fight multiple time world champion Brazilian jiu-jitsu player Braulio Estima in the main event of the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo tonight (May 12, 2012) in Long Beach, California.
But first he had to show up.
Estima showed up, had a tough weight cut, but made weight for their bout, which was the headliner of the inaugural event that was being put online via a pay-per-view stream for $9.95, but Diaz didn't.
Instead, fans were left scratching their heads. After all, the bout was supposed to be for charity. There had been reports throughout the night that Diaz hadn't shown up yet, but most just assumed he was being fashionably late.
When he completely no-showed the main event, the fans in attendance and around the world were justifiably livid.
Guilherme Bertholdo may eventually follow in Uncle Anderson Silva's MMA footsteps
While his name isn't the same as his world famous uncle, there's still some pressure if you're getting into the fight game and are related to pound-for-pound MMA king Anderson Silva.
But 19-year-old Guilherme Bertholdo shrugs off his famous lineage and told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he's trying to forge his own fighting path, which right now is strictly muay Thai.
"No, I don't feel any pressure," said the soft-spoken Bertholdo, who faces 24-year-old Chris Lazaro tonight at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas at Lion Fight Muay Thai VI. "I'm just trying to do my own thing."
The 12-bout card streams live at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) on LionFightPromotions.com. It features a main-event rematch between World Boxing Council light-heavyweight (175-pound) champ Joe Schilling (12-2, 10 KOs) of Los Angeles and Simon Marcus (23-0, 18 KOs) of Toronto. Marcus ended their February meeting with a quick, and controversial, TKO...
Braulio Estima comes in 9 pounds over for BJJ match with Nick Diaz
Braulio Estima came in 9lbs over in his weigh-in for his match against Nick Diaz.

Nick Diaz has made the agreed weight, while Braulio has notified the camp that he will not be able to make the agreed upon weight tomorrow before the match. K-1 May 27 Card: Badr Hari, Cro Cop, And The 2012 K-1 MAX Grand Prix
More exciting news for Badr Hari fans. As we noted last week, Hari has officially been announced as returning to K-1 this May. Now, we have his fight officially announced. On May 27 in Madrid, Spain, Badr Hari will face Anderson Silva.
Now, before you get too excited, let's be clear that this is, of course, Anderson "Braddock" Silva, highly regarded kickboxing heavyweight. Not UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Though clearly that would be even more awesome.
Hari vs. Silva is one of four Heavyweight fights on the card. Also included is Daniel Ghita vs. Paul Slowinski, Rico Verhoeven vs. Sergei Lascenko, and the K-1 return of Mirko Cro Cop as he faces Loren Javier Jorge. Winners are expected to move on to the K-1 2012 Grand Prix Final 16.
Nick Diaz, World Champion Braulio Estima Agree to Meet in BJJ Superfight
Braulio Estima, one of the best Jiu-Jitsu players in the world, will welcome Nick Diaz back to the world of BJJ.
The Diaz vs. Estima BJJ superfight, which will be contested at 180 pounds, will take place at the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo on May 12 in Long Beach, Calif., according to WJJE officials.
The 31-year-old Estima has won a plethora of BJJ competitions over the past decade. He most recently defeated Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in a super-fight at the 2011 edition of the prestigious Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling Championship and won gold medals at the 2009 ADCC tournament in the 88kg and Absolute divisions. He is currently training with the Blackzilians in South Florida in preparation for his MMA debut later this year.
Bas Boon plans to force K-1 into bankruptcy, build new kickboxing brand
With K-1 and its parent company FEG having been in severe financial difficulties for some time, there have been prolonged negotiations between various parties trying to buy the trademark to continue the brand. These have broadly fallen into two camps - one headed by K-1 president Mr Tanigawa and backed by a Korean investor named ‘Mr Kim’ and the other headed by Golden Glory in association with K-1 founder Mr Ishii.
Golden Glory thought it was close to taking over the K-1 brand in late 2011 but co-owner Bas Boon now claims that double-dealing and underhand tactics have put paid to that. Mr Tanigawa’s faction have retained control of the K-1 brand, but Boon contends that they are penniless and cannot meet the debts that K-1 has, nor handle the operational costs to go forward.
Excerpts from Boon's message appear below.
Remembering K-1 Champion Mike Bernardo: Dead at 42
Sad news this week in the kickboxing world - K-1 great Mike Bernardo has passed away. The longtime K-1 veteran died in his hometown of Cape Town, South Africa at the age of 42. Further details on his death are not known at this time.
Bernardo was a fixture of the early days of K-1 where he established a fearsome reputation as the heavy-hitting KO fighter. Standing in contrast to more technical fighters like Peter Aerts, Ernesto Hoost, and Andy Hug, Benardo was K-1's original heavy-handed brawler type of fighter, though he was also a very technically skilled competitor. Kid Nate summed him up well as "the scariest man in K-1. Not necessarily the best, but the scariest." But as is often the case, that scary fighter inside the ring was a kind man outside, dedicated to his faith.

Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson (3-0) remains unbeaten as a professional boxer after picking up his third straight win Friday night, Dec. 30, against fitness trainer Charles Hackman (0-1-1) in a heavyweight showdown at the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Okla.
The bout went all four rounds with the judges awarding Slice three. It was Slice’s third straight win in four months. In August he scored a 17-second first round knockout of James Wade, and then another first round knockout in 2 minutes and 17 seconds against Tay Bledsoe in October.
Larry Merchant: UFC made street fighting a 'so-called' sport
Boxing commentator Larry Merchant is a long-time foe of Mixed Martial Arts, in the manner of a toothless cro magnon telling a Geico commercial looking guy that he wouldn't use that crazy fire stuff if you paid him all the delicious termites on the savanna.
On September 17th, Merchant got into a verbal spat with Roger Mayweather, and snarled perhaps the single most dubious sentence ever uttered in a boxing ring "I wish I was 50 years younger and I would kick your ass." Lifelong boxing fan Dana White finally stopped always holding his feelings back, and spoke his mind.
"The guy is senile, he's out of his mind. He's up there berating Floyd, but Floyd can't say anything back to you? You've been disrespecting guys your whole career, and guess what, you can go back 60 years, you're not kicking Floyd's ass, okay? Give me a break. And what's Floyd going to do? A 102-year-old guy just said that to him."
Now Merchant responds.
ADCC 2011: Rousimar Palhares Continues Bizarre Behavior at Grappling Tournament
It seems like there is nothing Rousimar Palhares can do that doesn't involve some sort of controversy. Notorious for his willingness to bend the rules when in the cage for MMA and his bizarre mental lapses, the accomplished grappler isn't exactly an angel on the grappling mat either.
At the 2011 ADCC Palhares got off to a less than ideal start by missing weight but was given a second chance at which point he hit the mark. Then, in his second round match with David Avellan, Palhares' signature weirdness popped up again.
Huerta returning to action against newly released War Machine
After a period of soul searching Huerta, who is currently teaching and training at Phuket Top Team, has decided to return to competitive MMA,
"Fighting for me is in my blood, it's in my DNA and its something I will always have a passion for. It's been very instinctual for me from growing up and now I think that a lot of things are starting to fall into place and I want to fight again," he said.
