Despite looking for "big challenges," light heavyweight Gegard Mousasi not rushing to UFC
(mmajunkie.com)
Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1) isn't busy preparing for just one fight; he's getting ready for two. With an Aug. 1 bout with submission ace Renato "Babalu" Sobral at "Affliction: Trilogy" nearing, Mousasi will also face judoka Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at DREAM.11 in the Oct. 6 semifinals of the Japanese-based organization's "Super Hulk" tournament. It's a full schedule against top-tier talent, and Mousasi recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) that the unique opportunities he's currently enjoying are precisely why he's not ready to make a bid to compete in the UFC. "My manager told me that he had spoke to Joe Silva, the matchmaker of the UFC," Mousasi said. "I think that it's a possibility for me to fight (in the UFC) if I want to fight. But the UFC I think would be better for me at a later stage of my career.

Jesse Taylor wants the best Japan has to offer
(mmamania.com)
“I feel great, it’s a win, it’s my first time here, definitely not my last. I really like being here in Japan and fighting here, I love the audience. I really loved it out here but I really wish you know it wasn’t an injury, I think I would have won any kind of way, I would have won anyways but I don’t like winning like that … the UFC kind of labeled me [as a “bad boy”] and I don’t know if I really like that or not but yeah I just want to show the fans, the people at home that I’m actually a pretty good guy. Obviously from my past I have a lot to prove now. I have two boys, two sons and you know this provides a means to an end and I really like fighting here, I mean, to tell the truth I like fighting here a lot more than in the States so hopefully you guys like me and hopefully I’ll be back and I want the best. I can also go both wegiht classes, so I can do welterweight or middleweight here, so wherever the fight you demand from me is where I’ll go.”

(mma.fanhouse.com)

So I'm watching everything Brock does, and eventually I do want to fight Brock for that title."

In his first fight since a stunning 14-second knockout of Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson in late 2008, Seth Petruzelli (10-4) returns at Art of Fighting 4 to take on Tampa-area police officer and one-time IFL fighter Chris Baten (5-4). Over the weekend organizers announced details of the show, which takes place Aug. 22 at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Fla. Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal vs. Don Frye signed for M-1 Global's first "major show" on Aug. 28
(mmajunkie.com)
Ready to host its own major shows (rather than co-promoting with other organizations), M-1 Global will kick off a new era of fight promotion on Aug. 28 with a main event of top prospect Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal (4-0) vs. MMA trailblazer and legend Don Frye (20-7-1). Sources close to the negotiations today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) bout agreements have finally been signed for the previously rumored matchup. The event, "M-1 Global Presents Breakthrough," takes place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California. An HDNet official today told MMAjunkie.com the event airs live on the all-high-definition cable station. The show, which takes place on the eve of UFC 102 in Portland, Ore., is being held in conjunction with IMMAE, an international MMA expo and trade show. M-1 Global, a Russian-based organization, is perhaps best known for its "M-1 Challenge" event series, which M-1 officials bill as the "World Cup of Mixed Martial Arts." The series uses a country-vs.-country format for team competitions. However, while popular with many overseas locations, the event series has experienced minimal success in the U.S. However, event organizers want to penetrate the lucrative U.S. market, and they plan to use a non-team event series (similar to the UFC and Strikeforce) for some future shows. M-1 has traditionally teamed with Affliction Entertainment to co-promote events but will go solo on Aug. 28. Many major names have fought under the M-1 banner – including heavyweight kingpin Fedor Emelianenko – and could be options for future shows. The first event, though, will feature two newcomers to M-1

BOBBY LASHLEY: "My sights are set on Brock Lesnar."
(mmamania.com)
“I’m not going to say anything bad on Brock, because Brock is doing all the right things, [but] my sights are set on Brock. I’m not saying I want to fight him because he’s ‘the wrestling guy.’ I’m saying it because I am a heavyweight fighter and he’s the champ.”

UFC Quick Quote: Yoshihiro Akiyama a little lost in translation during Alan Belcher fight
(mmamania.com)
“Alan was a very tough fighter. The damage of the low blow in the beginning of the fight was quite strong. I thought that if he hit me there again I wouldn’t be able to continue the fight. I wanted to take a large break but there was confusion during the fight. I misunderstood the referee saying five minutes in English as five seconds, I continued the fight urgently but this took a big toll on the exhaustion of my physical strength. My eye got injured when I got downed on the first round by a left. I felt an abnormality in my eye after the end of the 1st round. One eye was closed so I didn’t know about my sense of distance. Because I couldn’t see any attacks from my opponent’s right side I received a lot of leg kicks from that side. I didn’t continue with the game plan, the only reason I won was my feeling that I really didn’t want to lose this fight. After the fight when I was in the hospital, Dana White came personally and told me first hand that me and Belcher’s fight was elected as the fight of the night. I was very happy…. Alan is the toughest fighter I have faced and I’m proud to have been able to fight him. I will devote myself from now on so please support me.”

Quote of the day : Frank Mir "Within Half-An-Inch Of Catching Brock Lesnar"
(bloodyelbow.com)
"When Lesnar didn't come after me, that really threw me off." "He didn't land any punches on his feet, did he?" "I didn't expect him to run." "He ran like a lightweight. ... It's my fault. I should have trained that he would be intimidated from the standup" fighting position." This is pretty delusional to me. Does anyone agree with this. I just didn't see it the same way Mir does, and I think he's kidding himself.

Mark Coleman doesn't get tired...he plays possum.
(mmamania.com)
“I had a lot of doubters. I can’t stand being called an old man…. I had to shut a lot of people up. There are reasons why I got tired — distractions — I didn’t train hard enough. But if I put the time in I can compete with anybody. I was about 70 percent tonight [at UFC 100]…. I can get a lot better and [be a factor in this division]…. When I put my mind to it I’m fresh, I’m fast, I’m quick, I punch hard … I’m good…. Everybody else better watch out because ‘The Hammer’ is back…"
