What's Next for Josh Barnett and Why It Matters
(bloodyelbow.com)
1. He lost a lot of money for the Fedor fight and a chance to solidify himself as the top heavyweight fighter in MMA. This fight was probably one of, if not, the highest-paying fights Josh was ever going to get in his life. Whether you believe the figure is $300,000 or $500,000, that’s a lot of money to make for one fight. He’s not going to get that money anywhere else – not in Japan and not in UFC. ... What Barnett has to hope for is that there is still interest in Japan to book this fight on New Year’s Eve

Antonio Silva Could Fight for Sengoku Heavyweight Title in December, Wants Josh Barnett
(bloodyelbow.com)
Antonio Silva gave Tatame some interesting news regarding the Sengoku heavyweight title picture on Sunday. Here's an excerpt (roughly translated by yours truly) from the post they've got up: Pezão eyes title fight in Sengoku Owner of three heavyweight championships (EliteXC, Cage Rage and Cage Warriors), Antonio "Pezão" [Silva] is training to return to Sengoku on September 23rd, and now has even more motivation to win. "I have two more fights in Sengoku, and, winning this fight... I'll fight for the title in December. They're going to create a championship and I'll fight for the title," said the American Top Team heavyweight, who is still without an opponent.

Brett Rogers' Manager: Strikeforce Wasn't An 'Obstruction' in Making Fedor Fight
(mma.fanhouse.com)
According to Brett Rogers' manager and trainer, Mike Reilly, the Strikeforce heavyweight had agreed to a deal that would pay him somewhere in the ballpark of $500,000 to $800,000 to fight Fedor Emelianenko on the now-canceled "Affliction: Trilogy" card. Unfortunately for Rogers, who recently left his job at Sam's Club to train MMA full-time, the match-up never materialized.

Gray Maynard has a plan: Kick Roger Huerta’s ass on Sept. 16
(mmamania.com)
“I’m trying to learn how I can avoid (getting caught). If I get caught, then I’m an idiot. Because that’s part of the sport: defense. Blocking stuff, movement, which I think a lot of guys don’t do. You see offense everywhere, but if you can just move a little bit, it’s a lot easier. I’m here to win. (I’m not going to say), ‘I think it’s going to be a bloody, an unbelievable throwdown [and] we’re going to get the fight of the night check.’ To be honest, I don’t even want it to be close. I want to kick this dude’s ass. That’s the plan.”

DON FRYE: "CSAC are a bunch of amateurs."
(mma.fanhouse.com)
Leave it to Don Frye to make sense of this whole Josh Barnett/Affliction situation. Or not. The MMA veteran spoke to Fight Network Radio Thursday about Barnett's positive steroid test, but chose to lay the blame on the California State Athletic Commission instead: "Look at what the hell is going on in California with their athletic commission. What a bunch of amateurs. You know, I mean, they're suspending Josh Barnett for taking a drug, you know, and he can be making the state a million dollars by fighting. But they're going to suspend his ass when they're five billion dollars in debt. Where's the sense in that? You know, that's insane. That's how goofy we've gotten.

(mma.fanhouse.com)
Randy Couture has always desperately wanted to fight Fedor Emelianenko, once going so far as to leave the UFC in an unsuccessful attempt to fight Fedor elsewhere. But while Couture's fight with Fedor is probably never going to happen, Couture does hope that his friend Vitor Belfort gets that chance.

Despite looking for "big challenges," light heavyweight Gegard Mousasi not rushing to UFC
(mmajunkie.com)
Gegard Mousasi (25-2-1) isn't busy preparing for just one fight; he's getting ready for two. With an Aug. 1 bout with submission ace Renato "Babalu" Sobral at "Affliction: Trilogy" nearing, Mousasi will also face judoka Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at DREAM.11 in the Oct. 6 semifinals of the Japanese-based organization's "Super Hulk" tournament. It's a full schedule against top-tier talent, and Mousasi recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) that the unique opportunities he's currently enjoying are precisely why he's not ready to make a bid to compete in the UFC. "My manager told me that he had spoke to Joe Silva, the matchmaker of the UFC," Mousasi said. "I think that it's a possibility for me to fight (in the UFC) if I want to fight. But the UFC I think would be better for me at a later stage of my career.

Jesse Taylor wants the best Japan has to offer
(mmamania.com)
“I feel great, it’s a win, it’s my first time here, definitely not my last. I really like being here in Japan and fighting here, I love the audience. I really loved it out here but I really wish you know it wasn’t an injury, I think I would have won any kind of way, I would have won anyways but I don’t like winning like that … the UFC kind of labeled me [as a “bad boy”] and I don’t know if I really like that or not but yeah I just want to show the fans, the people at home that I’m actually a pretty good guy. Obviously from my past I have a lot to prove now. I have two boys, two sons and you know this provides a means to an end and I really like fighting here, I mean, to tell the truth I like fighting here a lot more than in the States so hopefully you guys like me and hopefully I’ll be back and I want the best. I can also go both wegiht classes, so I can do welterweight or middleweight here, so wherever the fight you demand from me is where I’ll go.”

Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal vs. Don Frye signed for M-1 Global's first "major show" on Aug. 28
(mmajunkie.com)
Ready to host its own major shows (rather than co-promoting with other organizations), M-1 Global will kick off a new era of fight promotion on Aug. 28 with a main event of top prospect Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal (4-0) vs. MMA trailblazer and legend Don Frye (20-7-1). Sources close to the negotiations today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) bout agreements have finally been signed for the previously rumored matchup. The event, "M-1 Global Presents Breakthrough," takes place at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California. An HDNet official today told MMAjunkie.com the event airs live on the all-high-definition cable station. The show, which takes place on the eve of UFC 102 in Portland, Ore., is being held in conjunction with IMMAE, an international MMA expo and trade show. M-1 Global, a Russian-based organization, is perhaps best known for its "M-1 Challenge" event series, which M-1 officials bill as the "World Cup of Mixed Martial Arts." The series uses a country-vs.-country format for team competitions. However, while popular with many overseas locations, the event series has experienced minimal success in the U.S. However, event organizers want to penetrate the lucrative U.S. market, and they plan to use a non-team event series (similar to the UFC and Strikeforce) for some future shows. M-1 has traditionally teamed with Affliction Entertainment to co-promote events but will go solo on Aug. 28. Many major names have fought under the M-1 banner – including heavyweight kingpin Fedor Emelianenko – and could be options for future shows. The first event, though, will feature two newcomers to M-1
