KENNY FLORIAN: "I FEEL LIKE I'VE ALREADY WON"
(mmaweekly.com)
As the weeks have dwindled to days, and the days narrow down to hours, Kenny Florian is nothing, if not appreciative of the position he is in. He steps into the Octagon on Saturday night challenging for UFC lightweight gold for the second time in his career. Not bad for a guy that entered the promotion via The Ultimate Fighter, losing to Diego Sanchez in the finale... as a middleweight, no less. “To me, it’s a dream come true to fight for the belt and go out there and do what I love doing,” Florian told MMAWeekly.com on Wednesday.

Strikeforce picks up undefeated middleweight Zak Cummings with multi-fight deal
(mmajunkie.com)
Strikeforce's roster continues to expand, this time with undefeated middleweight Zak Cummings (10-0). Multiple sources close to the fighter told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Cummings has agreed to a multi-fight, mutli-year deal that will be signed this week. Cummings is slated to make his promotional debut on Sept. 25 at an event likely to take place in Fresno, Calif., possibly against fellow Strikeforce newcomer and "The Ultimate Fighter 7" competitor Paul Bradley (11-1).

Kendall Grove: ‘I’m going to break’ Ricardo Almeida at UFC 101
(mmamania.com)
“[When Almeida fought] Cote, I learned a lot. Keep my level low. He does get frustrated when he can’t control you on the ground, when you shut down takedowns, he breaks as a fighter, but I’m a firm believer that he learned from that fight and he’s going to come out a little different, he’s going to come out more prepared..."

Top trainer Greg Jackson hopes striking manual "The Stand Up Game" can benefit all
(mmajunkie.com)
Hardly a weekend goes by that top MMA trainer and namesake of the New Mexico-based camp Jackson's Mixed Martial Arts, Greg Jackson, isn't in the corner of a world-class fighter. But somewhere between the training sessions, travel and pay-per-view events, Jackson – along with occasional MMAjunkie.com contributor Kelly Crigger – has penned a new striking manual entitled "Jackson's Mixed Martial Arts: The Stand-Up Game." Jackson recently told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) that the book was based around a series of proven techniques and should prove beneficial to competitors of all levels.

(mma.fanhouse.com)
Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir will be the color commentator for WEC 42 Sunday night on Versus, and all this week he's providing his insight into the WEC fights. Today I ask Mir about the bantamweight fight between Dominick Cruz and Joseph Benavidez, and whether the winner will earn a title shot.

SPRATT INJURES KNEE, EYES OCTOBER RETURN
(mmaweekly.com)
It’s been an uncharacteristically slow year for former UFC welterweight Pete “Secret Weapon” Spratt. After a disappointing 2008 that saw him go 1-3, Spratt spent the better part of the first half of this year out of commission, before returning in June with a victory over Alan Woods for the Steele Cage promotion.

Sadollah’s Post-TUF journey restarts at UFC 101
(ufc.com)
Amir Sadollah swept onto the UFC scene in 2008, light on experience but heavy on skills, talent and heart. In the process, he became the middleweight winner of The Ultimate Fighter’s seventh season, a charismatic and humble Surgical Technician out of Virginia who quickly gained a legion of fans with his feel-good Cinderella run. Then he was gone.

On Fedor and the MMA Hardcore Community
(fiveouncesofpain.com)
I don’t know what happened. One day things were as per normal in the internet MMA community, the next thing people have gone certified insane. Maybe the blame should go to Josh Barnett for starting off this chain reaction that has led to Fedor Emelianenko being (unjustly) the most vilified MMA star this side of Gilbert Yvel. Things have moved quickly and Barnett has become merely an afterthought in the UFC/M-1 mamushka. Hardcore, computer friendly MMA fans are constantly reminded how we make up a small portion of the larger MMA network. While that may be true, we consider ourselves educated and often superior to the casual rubes. We turn our collective noses up at the notion that many so called MMA fans are actually UFC fans. No doubt they are the ones calling it “Ultimate Fighting” as well. The nerve.

Elvis Sinosic Talks About The Affliction Crash
(punchdrunkgamer.com)
Elvis Sinosic Talks About The Affliction Crash I write this opinion as a fan, a fighter and a coach. It was sad to see the demise of another big MMA organization. To see Affliction collapse was sad. As a fan I have now lost another opportunity watch MMA. I lost the opportunity to watch fighters that aren’t in the UFC. So I am left with less MMA and in my opinion that is disappointing. As a fighter it means one less show that I have the opportunity to fight in. This means one less avenue which allows me to earn a living (and for all other fighters as well). Sadly no one show will be able to give every fighter and opportunity. We need more shows to give the fighters more exposure and more opportunity to fight. As a coach it means one less show for my fighters to compete in. Sadly the demise has left a hole in the sport. Hopefully in time that hole will be filled by another organization. But even still it still means one less place to share my enjoyment of MMA. Thanks, Elvis Sinosic The King of Rock ‘n Rumble Sinosic Perosh Martial Arts

Georges St. Pierre looking to train with Lyoto Machida
(fiveouncesofpain.com)
Coming off a dominating performance at the UFC’s most anticipated show ever, UFC 100, Georges St-Pierre has put a stamp on his weight class and is pondering a move up to seek new challenges. With this prospect on his horizon, he is reaching out to another UFC Champion in Lyoto Machida due to one thing they have in common. It isn’t their UFC belts, rather their matching black belts in Karate.

Is BJ Penn's Legacy on the Line at UFC 101?
(bloodyelbow.com)
At UFC 101 BJ Penn finally gets to answer all the questions. Is he really the best lightweight in the world, or is he overrated? Fans have started questioning the strength of his wins at 155, starting with the win over Jens Pulver. Pulver's gone on such a bad losing streak that the win isn't impressive in retrospect. He got a nice win over Joe Stevenson, but Stevenson went on to suffer a first round loss to Kenny Florian and a decision to Diego Sanchez. His win over Sherk looked impressive until Frankie Edgar easily outboxed Sherk.

WHERE HE WANTS TO BE, BENAVIDEZ READY FOR CRUZ
(mmaweekly.com)
No longer in the shadow of his mentor and friend, Urijah Faber, Joseph Benavidez has risen through the ranks to stake claim as the next big thing in the 135-pound division. Set to face Dominick Cruz on Aug. 9 as the co-main event under current champ Miguel Torres at WEC 42, the supporting slot has become a comfortable trend for the New Mexico native. His fight with Cruz will mark the third time in three WEC appearances that Benavidez will be on the same card with Torres headlining. Needless to say, he has taken notice.

Passed on for Nick Diaz fight, Strikeforce's Phil Baroni says future will be different
(mmajunkie.com)
Strikeforce welterweight brawler Phil Baroni (13-11) was the first person to raise his hand when the organization was in need for a replacement opponent for Nick Diaz. It's the warrior mentality that has been a career hallmark of the "New York Bad Ass," but it wasn't enough for Showtime to allow Baroni to step in for Joe Riggs on the main card of the Aug. 15 event, "Carano vs. Cyborg."
