The women's bantamweight title bout continued the fast-paced Ultimate Fighting Championship's return to form after an injury-riddled 2014 that saw bad news on the revenue and credit rating fronts. Now, the once high-flying UFC is trying hard to put last year behind it.

The salaries reflect an unfortunate reality in the sport. Bellator is the second largest promotion in North American, and had ten fighters on the card making 1/1. The main event fighter, former league middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko got $20,000 to win. In MMA, it gets worse from there, as you move into smaller promotions.

Tim Sylvia retires
Former UFC heavyweight champion Tim "The Maineiac" Sylvia was scheduled to fight tonight at Reality Fighting 53, but was not medically cleared to fight. While the reason was not provided, Sylvia announced at the event that there was an issue with his MRI, and he was retiring.
'Diablita' retired from combat sports but suffering cognitive symptoms
In a recent profile on AXS.com by Eric Holden titled "Michele Gutierrez feeling long-term effects of MMA fighting" the fighter talks about health issues she is having that could be traced to head trauma from combat sports.
The only figure from MMA with a publicly confirmed diagnosis for CTE is Gary Goodridge, and he explicitly attributes it to the damage he took in kickboxing.
