Tuesday Autopsy Scheduled For MMA Fighter Who Died After Pro Debut
(mmajunkie.com)
MMA fighter Michael Kirkham, who made his pro debut this past weekend after 4 amateur fights, today became the second MMA fighter to die as a result of injuries sustained in a pro MMA bout. Kirkham died this morning as a result of injuries sustained from a professional bout this past Saturday at the USC Aiken Convocation Center in South Carolina. Kirkham, 30, suffered repeated blows to the head during an MMA event dubbed "Confrontation at Convocation Center" and collapsed afterward. He was taken unconscious to the Aiken Regional Medical Center, where he died from brain hemorrhaging. An autopsy is expected Tuesday morning.

(mixedmartialarts.com)
CagePotato.com has been able to confirm with a source close to the show the participation of several former UFC and PRIDE veterans in an August 14 hybrid boxing and MMA card in San Diego, California. War on the Mainland's self-titled event will take place at the San Diego Sports Arena and will feature Murilo Bustamante, Thales Leites, Alan Goes, Pedro Rizzo, Jens Pulver and Jason Lambert among others. E3 2010: UFC-branded fitness game on the way
(mcvuk.com)
THQ is working on a unique exercise game. The publisher confirmed at E3 this week that it is working on a UFC-inspired fitness game for Kinect, PS Move, and Wii. Unlike other games in the genre the game will be targeted primarily at men, MCV understands. (Men aspiring to be massive man-mountains with necks thicker than their heads - just like the best UFC fighters - we assume.) But like other exercise games THQ expects it to do well in the post-Christmas season when consumers think about getting in shape and shaving kilograms of mince pies from their physiques. The game is due in January and is called UFC Trainer. It's a spin-off of THQ's surprise success UFC, the Ultimate Fighting Championship game that debuted strongly last year - a sequel was released just last month. But the new game is not on show at E3 - THQ only revealed the game during an investors meeting. THQ's core games boss Danny Bilson said he wants to demo it only when the game ready for the market. "We want this thing tuned to perfection without lag," GameSpot quotes him as saying - which suggests THQ's developers are also still getting used to perfecting making content for Kinect. "And I'm not going to ship it until it's the coolest fighting thing in the world."

E3 2010: Supremacy MMA is Looking for a Fight (New Game)
(1up.com)
Emphasizing the underground culture of mixed martial arts, Supremacy MMA from 505 Games looks to bring the sport back to its no-holds-barred roots. Developer Kung Fu Factory admits their game may not have a license, but they see that as an opportunity to have a darker, more violent vibe compared to THQ's UFC Undisputed series. First thing i thought was..... Is that a cockfighting ring??

Canadian Authorities Questioned CroCop About War Crimes
(fightersonlymagazine.co.uk)
Mirko ‘CroCop’ Filipovic has revealed how Canadian immigration officials subjected him to intensive questioning during his first two days in the country. They wanted to know if he was involved in any war crimes during his military service when the former Yugoslavia descended into civil war in the mid-1990s. Filipovic was with a Croatian unit from 1993-4 and Canadian officials were interested to see if he could give them any information about certain military figures of interest to the international community for war crimes and human rights violations...

USADA Calls NSAC Drug Testing Procedures "Inadequate", Recommends Tougher Stance
(mmajunkie.com)
This past week, the Nevada State Athletic Commission invited a panel of experts to speak at the commission's monthly meeting in an effort to gain a better understanding of what can and should be done to prevent athletes from gaining an unfair advantage through the use of performance enhancing drugs. While the range of opinions varied widely in some aspects, almost everyone agreed on one thing. The NSAC (and consequently, commissions around the nation) needs to do a better job. "You can do better," U.S. Anti-Doping Agency CEO Travis Tygart said. "You can do a lot better. I ask you to do better on behalf of clean athletes. "When I've got athletes coming to me to put a program in because they don't think yours is adequate, that's not good for our athletes. We need better."

UFC Undisputed 2010 Performance 'Below Expectations'
(gamasutra.com)
Despite the stellar sales of its predecessor, THQ and Yuke's' UFC Undisputed 2010 is selling "slower than anticipated," even as UFC pay-per-view television events are performing well, according to Lazard Capital Markets analyst Colin Sebastian. In a research note released today, Sebastian said the game is "tracking below our expectations at retail," and pointed out that online retailer Amazon discounted the game $20 to $39 after only a week on sale.

Rener Gracie Taps Oprah Channel For Possible Reality Show
(mmamania.com)
Rener Gracie wants to use jiu-jitsu to help kids stand up to bullies while also learning self-defense and how to improve their self-esteem. Gracie has reached out to the Oprah Channel to pitch his idea for a reality show that would bring kids and teens in need to his Gracie Academy in Torrance, California, for training. You can watch his video audition and vote for him at Oprah.com. The show seems to be partly inspired by MTV's "Bully Beatdown" but apparently will not involve fighting or bullies being confronted.

(mmamania.com)
Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim Sylvia reveals to Sherdog.com that he weighed 305-pounds for his Moosin "Gods of Martial Arts" fight against Mariusz Pudzianowski because he didn't want to give up any unnecessary pounds to the Polish strongman. "The Maine-iac" made the world's strongest can submit to strikes after a round of sucking wind and swinging for the fences. Georges vs. Georges Grappling Match On "Off The Record" Tomorrow
(mmamania.com)
MMA vs. Boxing has been a hot topic lately. But MMA vs. Hockey? UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre has accepted a challenge from friend and fellow Canadian Georges Laraque for a grappling match at the Tristar Gym in Montreal. TSN will broadcast the showdown on Friday, May 21, 2010, at 6 p.m. ET on "Off the Record." The 33-year old heavyweight hockey player, who last skated for the Montreal Canadiens, appeared with "Rush" on a recent episode of "Off the Record," where he promised to use his weight advantage against GSP and "pick him up and body slam him." Is American wrestling stalling the progress of Mixed Martial Arts?
(heavy.com)
"Is American wrestling stalling the progress of Mixed Martial Arts? Some fans think so, and after some recent matches in particular, arguments are rife that wrestlers are killing the aesthetics of the sport. Every MMA fan, commentator and reporter has found themselves in a discussion as to who are the best fighters to watch, which is different from a discussion about who are the best fighters period. Being one of the best fighters to watch does not necessarily equate to being one of the best fighters in terms of winning accomplishments."

Offense? Defense? Jab? Mariusz Pudzianowski Is Just "Bad"
(mmamania.com)
In other words, it's a glowing vote of confidence from Pudz' boxing coach, Krzyzstof Kosedowski. "His boxing technique is bad. There a lot of holes in his game. His defense is weak, he didn't have much time to learn. There are holes in every aspect of his boxing technique. His jab is bad, his legs are bad, his defense is bad, his offense is bad. I also don't think Mariusz is ready to take a punch."

Barnett Not Scheduled For Today's CSAC Meeting, Drug Appeal Still Unresolved
(mmajunkie.com)
Josh Barnett may wait this one out. The top-tier heavyweight is not on the agenda for a California State Athletic Commission's Tuesday meeting in Los Angeles, which means his long-delayed appeal of a fight-license denial this past July may not be heard before he is cleared to reapply. According to George Dodd, executive director of the CSAC, Barnett is free to reapply for a license on June 25, when he said the denial's term ends. However, Barnett may still be asked to appear at a commission meeting before that license is approved or denied. Fighters who test positive for steroids are not allowed to reapply for a license for one year, Dodd said.

Vince McMahon Trying To Get the UFC Banned
(cagesideseats.com)
Sometimes the most intriguing wrestling news stories are broken or teased on the Wrestling Observer / Figure Four Online message boards. This is one such case, as UFC.com writer/German UFC commentator (and former German WWE commentator/marketing staffer/keeper of savage secrets) Oliver Copp let the news leak that Vince McMahon is attempting to sabotage UFC's expansion into key European markets in a thread about Dana White's recent ambition to hold an event at the newly opened largest domed stadium in the world, Cowboy Stadium in Dallas. Saw this on another forum and couldn't believe what I was reading so for all of you out there toi coment on.

Syntax Records featured in April issue of Fight Magazine
(bit.ly)
It’s not uncommon for those familiar with the Syntax Records brand to find hints of MMA intertwined both with the staff, and artists. In fact, some of the Syntax affiliates have been closely following the sport since before it was even called MMA. Thus making sense, that Fight Magazine contacted Syntax when they decided to do an article on independent music and MMA. They even mentioned Syntax as one of only three labels to have their logo make an appearance in the UFC Octagon. Hey, it's pretty exciting for us.
