(mmaweekly.com)
One of the most common questions has to be ‘is there any fight that would draw you back into the Octagon?’. Well, leave it to Randy Couture to spice things up and throw out another action star’s name, who isn’t in The Expendables, but happens to be swirling around his old stomping ground in the UFC. “Not unless (Steven) Seagal wants to sign up,” Couture answered with a smile and a laugh...

(mmajunkie.com)
The roller-coaster ratings for FX's UFC preliminary-card broadcasts continue. The most recent two-hour broadcast, which coincided with this past weekend's UFC 150 event, fell below 1 million viewers. UFC 150 took place at Denver's Pepsi Center. The night's main card, including lightweight champion Benson Henderson's narrow split-decision victory over Frankie Edgar, aired on pay-per-view. Dennis Bermudez, Michael Kuiper, Erik Perez and Chico Camus picked up victories on the FX broadcast, which followed a one-bout stream on Facebook. The most-recent UFC-FX prelims broadcast, UFC 149, averaged 1 million viewers. Prior to that, UFC 148 set a new high watermark with 1.8 million viewers...

(tmz.com)
Recently-axed UFC fighter Jason "Mayhem" Miller was arrested today in Orange County, TMZ has learned -- after allegedly breaking into a church, spraying a fire extinguisher all over the place, and getting buck naked. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, the O.C. Sheriff's Office received a call early this morning from the Mission Hills Church in Mission Viejo about a possible burglary in progress. When the deputies arrived, we're told they found the first and second floors covered in white fire extinguisher spray. (mmajunkie.com)
At 37 years old, Croatian combat-sports legend Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic believes he will again compete in MMA. Despite walking away from the Ultimate Fighting Championship after an October loss to Roy Nelson, Filipovic told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) and USA TODAY Sports that he is training in the sport and envisions a return to MMA. "Concerning my retirement from the UFC, I said it was my last fight for the UFC and last fight on the present contract, but I did not say, 'I won't keep fighting,'" Filipovic said. "I never said that. I think the best thing to say is that I was born to fight." After leaving the UFC, Filipovic had surgery to repair torn muscles and tendons in his arm. He has returned to training and said he feels like an athlete reborn.

UFC on FOX 4 Ratings: Approximately 2.36 Million Tune In For Shogun vs. Vera
(mmafighting.com)
In the considerable shadow of the Olympics, Saturday night's UFC on FOX 4 was never expected to win the evening's ratings battle. The fight card produced a considerable amount of action and drama, but in the end, the ratings reflected the difficulty of stacking up against a powerhouse sports property. The event, highlights by a main event pitting former UFC light-heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua against Brandon Vera, saw its highest ratings in the last half-hour, when approximately 2.36 million tuned in for the showcase fight...

Oregon State Athletic Commission executive director on leave pending investigation
(mmajunkie.com)
The Oregon State Police and Oregon Department of Justice are investigating the longtime head of the Oregon State Athletic Commission. The OSP issued a press release this past week that states Brad D'Arcy, who's served as the executive director of the OSAC since 2004, on June 6 was placed on paid leave as the enforcement agencies look into "conduct associated with the director's duties." Oversight for combat sports events in the state, including next month's "Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy" event, now is handled by the OSP, which supersedes the OSAC. The commission's five-member volunteer board remains in place. "Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy" takes place July 14 at Rose Garden in Portland, and airs live on Showtime and Showtime Extreme. The main event features a middleweight title fight between current champ Luke Rockhold and challenger Tim Kennedy. Nearly all established North American athletic commissions require drug testing for title fights. Speaking today to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), John Yost of the OSP referred questions about event administration and testing to Gaming Enforcement Division Lt. Craig Heuberger, who now is in charge of the OSAC's business-related matters. Yost declined to answer questions about the investigation. Heuberger was unavailable for comment.

First, The Spider created controversy with an anecdote about returning with a gun to look for former coach Rafael Cordeiro after an earlier argument ended up with Anderson taking a slap in the face. Then Jose ‘Pele’ Landi-Jons also made strong comments last week when he read a section which accused him of deliberately driving through a puddle to spray road water all over Anderson and his daughter...

Ex-MMA Fighter Threatens To Kill UFC Prez
(tmz.com)
UFC Prez Dana White is on the receiving end of some terrifying death threats from an ex-MMA fighter who says he plans to "shoot [Dana] right in the head" -- and now cops are on the case. It's unclear what started the beef, but the wannabe fighter -- Dan Quinn -- has gone off the hinges, leaving voicemail messages threatening to blow up Dana's offices and put a bullet in the back of his head. Quinn's fighting career spanned nine years from 2001-2010. He never fought in the UFC, but did face off against a couple of future UFC fighters, including 2004 heavyweight champ Frank Mir (Quinn got beat). Quinn has made rambling threats against White for several years on YouTube, but they escalated recently after Quinn somehow got Dana's private work number and left chilling messages...

Guilherme Bertholdo may eventually follow in Uncle Anderson Silva's MMA footsteps
(mmajunkie.com)
While his name isn't the same as his world famous uncle, there's still some pressure if you're getting into the fight game and are related to pound-for-pound MMA king Anderson Silva. But 19-year-old Guilherme Bertholdo shrugs off his famous lineage and told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he's trying to forge his own fighting path, which right now is strictly muay Thai. "No, I don't feel any pressure," said the soft-spoken Bertholdo, who faces 24-year-old Chris Lazaro tonight at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas at Lion Fight Muay Thai VI. "I'm just trying to do my own thing." The 12-bout card streams live at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) on LionFightPromotions.com. It features a main-event rematch between World Boxing Council light-heavyweight (175-pound) champ Joe Schilling (12-2, 10 KOs) of Los Angeles and Simon Marcus (23-0, 18 KOs) of Toronto. Marcus ended their February meeting with a quick, and controversial, TKO...

'Minotauro' Nogueira Joins Brazil's 'Dancing with the Stars'
(sherdog.com)
Move over Chuck Liddell. Being one of his country’s most popular athletes led to an unusual invitation for former Pride Fighting Championships heavyweight titleholder Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, who will participate in “Dance of the Famous” -- Brazil’s version of “Dancing with the Stars.” The competition will be part of “Domingao do Faustao,” the top-rated Sunday afternoon television show on Rede Globo. “I’ll dance,” Nogueira told Sherdog.com, a laugh in tow. “They called me to do it, and I’ll be there. It’s an opportunity to expose MMA to people who have never seen it. My grandmother, for instance, will attend ‘Dance of the Famous,’ but she doesn’t watch my fights...

UFC on FOX 3 headliner Jim Miller using walkout shirt to benefit nephew's foundation
(mmajunkie.com)
Jim Miller will carry a heavy heart into Saturday's UFC on FOX 3 headliner with fellow lightweight Nate Diaz. But it'll be covered on his way to the cage with a TapouT walkout shirt he hopes will raise some serious funds for his nephew's foundation. Miller, who fights in his home state for Saturday's network-televised event, and clothing giant TapouT are donating $10 from every shirt sold to a foundation set up for brother and fellow UFC fighter Dan's young son. "We did a signature limited-edition T-shirt with TapouT, and they were generous enough to donate at least $10 per shirt to my nephew's foundation, the Daniel James Miller Foundation," Miller said of the project. The DJM Foundation is named after "Danny," who was born to Dan and Kristin Miller in January 2010 with autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (PKD). He undergoes daily dialysis and physical therapy after losing all kidney function. An upcoming kidney transplant is scheduled, but Danny will remain on costly anti-rejection medication for the remainder of his life. The foundation has been set up to help with the costs of the transplant and medication, which aren't covered by insurance. The UFC was one of the first supporters of the foundation, and now TapouT has lent its support...

State of Nevada Rebuts Nick Diaz Lawsuit
(mmafighting.com)
Last Tuesday, UFC welterweight Nick Diaz filed a lawsuit against the Nevada state athletic commission, claiming that the state regulation agency violated his right to due process by declining to grant him a hearing on the status of his fighter's license within 45 days of his suspension. According to the state of Nevada's office of the attorney general, the legal move is misguided. That is because Diaz's legal team, headed by Ross C. Goodman, cited a "summary suspension" of Diaz's license in his court filing. According to Nevada's state codes, a summary suspension can be ordered if an agency finds that "public health, safety or welfare imperatively require emergency action." But in a written response from Nevada attorney general Catherine Cortez Masto to Goodman and forwarded to MMA Fighting, the state of Nevada asserts that Diaz's legal team misunderstood the suspension...

UFC sponsor Anheuser-Busch warns promotion to monitor fighter behavior
(mmajunkie.com)
Blue-chip sponsor Anheuser-Busch has sent a message that it's keeping an eye on the behavior of UFC fighters outside the cage. The multi-national brewer, which owns the Bud Light and Bud Light Lime brands prominently advertised in the UFC, reprimanded the fight promotion for a series of sexist and homophobic remarks made by fighters in public and over social media. "If the incidents continue, we will act," Anheuser-Busch said in a statement prepared for Advertising Age...

Nick Diaz Sues Nevada Athletic Commission, Claims Due Process Rights Violated
(mmafighting.com)
UFC welterweight Nick Diaz has filed a lawsuit against the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for alleged violations of statutory law and his Constitutional rights to Due Process. Diaz, acting through his lawyer Ross C. Goodman, filed it in Nevada on Tuesday, April 24th. Diaz's motion for a preliminary injunction was filed Thursday. The lawsuit is related to a failed drug test by Diaz that was conducted by the NSAC. It was announced on Feb. 9th the Stockton, Calif. native tested positive for marijuana metabolites from a test administered after his UFC 143 bout with Carlos Condit. He was subsequently given a summary suspension by the NSAC. The suit is asking the court to immediately stay the summary suspension handed out to Diaz by the NSAC as well as to enjoin the NSAC from going ahead in any further disciplinary proceedings. Diaz's complaint also asks the court to declare his due process rights have been violated by the NSAC's failure to promptly convene a hearing to determine the merits of the disciplinary complaint against him. Diaz's suit centers on three allegations, two of which relate to statutory complaints for which he seeks injunctive relief -- namely, to have the temporary suspension lifted and to not be required to go any further punitive proceedings. The other allegation focuses on Diaz's due process rights, the NSAC's violation of which entitles Diaz to both injunctive and declaratory relief, according to the lawsuit...

Doctor who prescribed Alistair Overeem medication popped in 2004 for dealing 'controlled substances'
(mmamania.com)
And the plot thickens... Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Heavyweight Alistair Overeem, who appeared in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) today (April 24, 2012), has attributed the results of his failed drug test back on March 27 to anti-inflammatory medication he received out of competition to help with his recovery from a rib injury. That medication, which included self-injections containing testosterone, was prescribed by performance-enhancement doctor Hector Oscar Molina, who was referred to "The Reem" by former UFC fighter Tra Telligman. The same Dr. Hector Oscar Molina that was fined $25,000 and slapped with restrictions on his practice for three years for "prescribing controlled substances and dangerous drugs over the Internet without establishing a proper physician-patient relationship."

New TV deal could bring more UFC events to U.K.
(mmajunkie.com)
The UFC doesn't care about the U.K., or so say fans across the Pond who've seen events in Europe slow to a trickle in the past two years. "Every time I get on Twitter or whatever, I see the U.K. fans, 'They don't care about us. They don't care about this market,'" UFC president Dana White said. "Same thing with Ireland. Of course we do." But until the current TV situation changes, White can't promise anything before the promotion's current deal expires in August. That's when a contract between the UFC and ESPN's U.K. branch expires, and as UFC managing director of international development Marshall Zelaznik previously indicated to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com), more events could be on the way with a new TV partner. Or a new deal could be struck with ESPN, which has broadcast UFC events since 2009. A U.K. event targeted for the third quarter of this year falls within the timeframe when a new deal could be struck with either network...
