HDNet to Air XFL (not DREAM 1) on Saturday
(mmajunkie.com)
HDNet, a Mark Cuban-owned channel geared toward MMA coverage, will broadcast this weekend's Xtreme Fighting League event, but DREAM's inaugural show will not be carried by the all-high-definition cable station. HDNet officials today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Saturday's "DREAM 1" event, which features the opening round of a lightweight grand prix and the DREAM debut of former UFC fighter Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, has not been picked up for broadcast by the station. Fans were hopeful that HDNet -- which has signed deals to broadcast events for Strikeforce, the International Fight League, Ring of Fire and other top organizations -- would also pick up DREAM's debut show. Instead, "Team Takedown" fighters will be featured as part of Saturday's XFL broadcast, which begins at 10:30 p.m. ET.

Interesting theory as to why Comcast does not carry HDNet
(nationalwriterssyndicate.com)
Maybe a little heavy on the conspiracy angle, but then again, maybe not. Worth a read in any case and if you have comcast and want to join in on all the free MMA they offer, fill out the petition.

HDNet to Broadcast MFC Tonight, Strikeforce Tomorrow
(mmajunkie.com)
HDNet, the all-high-definition cable station geared toward MMA, will broadcast two major MMA events this weekend: “Maximum Fighting Championship 15: Rags to Riches” tonight and “Strikeforce at the Dome” tomorrow. Both events will be broadcast live. The MFC show features a main event between Pete Spratt (17-10), a UFC veteran and “The Ultimate Fighter 4” cast member, and prospect Ryan Ford (4-0). The event takes place at River Cree Resort and Casino in Edmonton. HDNet will air the event live from 9-12 p.m. ET. Saturday’s Strikeforce event features a main event between NFL lineman-turned fighter/kickboxer Bob Sapp (9-2-1) and undefeated boxer Jan “The Giant” Nortje (1-5). Other bouts include Maurice Smith vs. Rick Roufus, Joe Riggs vs. Cory Devela, and Jorge Masvidal vs. Ryan Healy. Should be a couple of good nights for fights, props to HDNet for getting more and more live MMA on TV for us. I'm hoping for a few quick stoppages on the MFC card as a guy that trains at my gym is fighting and it would be great if he gets some air time! Keep an eye out for Gavin Neil ,a really good MT guy (fighting Josh Groves) and give him a cheer if it makes it to air.

Good interview with Mark Cuban
(mma-core.com)
Can you imagine Mark Cuban owning the Chicago Cubs? Or developing a mixed-martial arts company to rival the UFC? In a crazy week for the owner of the Dallas Mavericks - the Jason Kidd deal finally became a reality on Tuesday - Cuban spent a few minutes with Sun Media via an e-mail interview. With HDNet - Cuban's satellite TV channel - broadcasting MFC 15: Rags to Riches tomorrow night from the River Cree Resort and Casino, the interview ranges from MMA to baseball. Q: Why did you decide to partner with the Maximum Fighting Championship to broadcast fights? A: "They put together a quality card. Great fighters, combined (with) great presentation are ingredients for success." PS A guy from the gym I train at is fighting in the MFC on Friday, he's on the undercard I believe, but if his fight makes it to air on HDNet give Gavin Neil a cheer.

Couture To HDNet...But When?
(sherdog.com)
According to paperwork filed by HDNet owner Mark Cuban in legal proceedings against UFC owner Zuffa, it has been revealed that HDNet has signed Randy Couture to a contract effective upon the expiration of his Zuffa promotional contract. The HDNet plan is, once the contract takes effect, to promote the long-hoped-for Couture-Fedor Emelianenko superfight.

One-on-one with Mark Cuban
(weblogs.baltimoresun.com)
Cuban is the billionaire owner of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and the co-founder of the high definition television channel HDNet. In October 2007, Cuban built upon HDNet's past mixed martial arts telecasts, diving head first into the MMA ring with the start of his promotion, HDNet Fights. I conducted an e-mail interview with him this past weekend in which he discussed everything from entrepreneurship to pro basketball to where the sport of MMA is headed. What follows is the transcript of that interview. Its interesting what Cuban has to say about the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act. It is something that soon the UFC could indeed be made to follow.

Randy Couture’s incorrect proclamation
(15rounds.com)
During a recent HDNet Fights card, Randy Couture publicly announced that he would be free to fight Fedor Emelianenko come October 2008. UFC President Dana White completely disagrees. “I expect Randy Couture to honor his contract. He is the heavyweight champion of the UFC. Until he either retires or fulfills his contract, he fights for the UFC,” said White. White already knows the next fight that will be lined up for Couture. “Nogueira and Sylvia are fighting for the interim title, and the winner will fight Randy.” EDIT: i just found another piece of info that i tought was very interesting this is from bloody elbow

The most notable part comes at the end, when Dana says Randy is still heavyweight champ, and the Nogueira/Sylvia fight is for the interim title. UFC contracts have "champions clauses" in them that extend the contract by a year or more if the fighter is still champion when the contract expires. Until things are settled or worked out, they won't strip him, because it stops him from fighting for another full year from July.

Ultimate Mayweather
(sherdog.com)
Telling the media that he had "accomplished all that I could as a fighter" following his Dec. 8 bout with Ricky Hatton, Floyd Mayweather intimated that he would be happy to retire with a perfect 39-0 record and the unofficial title of best pound-for-pound boxer on the planet. But if Mark Cuban is to be believed, the 30-year-old pugilist has a prescient sense of history and wants to add one more chapter to his inevitable self-congratulatory autobiography -- Mayweather could become the first boxer in his career prime to risk hyper-extended ligaments in a mixed martial arts contest. Mayweather, Cuban said, will be involved in some capacity with the billionaire's fledging HDNet Fights promotion and will visit MMA gyms in the coming months to gauge his interest in an open-style fight.

Miller, Trigg Set Stage for Rematch
(sherdog.com)
DALLAS, Dec. 15, 2007 -- Maybe it was the upgraded fight card, or it could have been the free "Halloween" DVD giveaway that brought in 6,754 people to the American Airlines Center for the second HDNet Fights event. Either way, there was a special energy as the show came out swinging with a card that did not disappoint.
