Dana White Meeting Resistance on Teammate vs Teammate Fights in the UFC
(bloodyelbow.com)
Dana White talked to CBS Sports and touched on the controversial teammate vs teammate point, Anderson Silva disagrees: "It has nothing to do with friendship," White said. "It's about seeing who's the best." Silva has been ultra-successful in his two forays to the 205-pound weight class. Neither of his two opponents -- Forrest Griffin or James Irvin -- made it past the opening round. To White, Silva's winning streak makes the fight inevitable.

MMA Is No Breakthrough for Women
(mma.fanhouse.com)
We've just witnessed the greatest advancement for female sports since Brandi Chastain ripped off her shirt at the end of the World Cup. So why does it feel more like a punch to the stomach? I'm talking about last weekend's MMA bout between Gina Carano and Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos. It supposedly is the breakthrough battle that will make female fighting mainstream.

Having been one of the few boxing promoters around today to have witnessed the great Sugar Ray Robinson fight live, it is no easy feat to impress Don "War-a-Week" Chargin. This hall-of-fame promoter has been touted by his peers as possibly being the best match-maker the boxing world has ever bore witness to. This is why it is with great intrigue that at the tail end of his long, illustrious career that Chargin would actively pursue what most would consider a long-shot proposal. It took over fifteen years, but UFC 2 competitor Fred Ettish notched his first career victory over the weekend at a local card in Brainerd, Minn. The 53-year-old Ettish, who faced ridicule in his previous and only MMA fight, forced submission Saturday by pounding out the much younger and heavier Kyle Fletcher at 3:20 of the first round at a Cage Fighting Xtreme event promoted by UFC welterweight Brock Larson. Ettish (1-1) entered the fight seeking redemption for a 3:07 loss at UFC 2 in March 1994.

The breakout mainstream success that has been achieved by Gina Carano may seem like a new phenomenon, but in truth she is simply the latest in a line of women to achieve such things. In the 90’s it was Kathy “The Punisher” Long who parlayed her success in the kickboxing and boxing ring to movie roles in such films as Oliver Stone's Natural Born Killers and Tim Burton's Batman Returns to even making an appearance as a commentator at UFC 1.

Olympic wrestler Cormier training for MMA.
(mmajunkie.com)
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Aug 12, 2009 at 5:30 am ET Yet another high-profile amateur wrestler is heading to the world of mixed martial arts. Daniel Cormier, a two-time Olympian and the U.S. squad's 2008 Olympic team captain, was a two-time JUCO national champion and NCAA Division I runner-up at Oklahoma State University in 2001. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) learned of the move from Zinkin Entertainment & Sports Management, a high-profile agency that now represents Cormier. Cormier, who will train with other collegiate-wrestling champions such as Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck at American Kickboxing Academy, is expected to compete in the light-heavyweight division upon his MMA debut. Cormier's wrestling accomplishments are in no short supply. Among the feats are three high-school state championships in his native Louisiana, a 117-6 collegiate record that included three-time All-American honors, six U.S. senior national championships and a fourth-place finish at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. While many fighters compete in relative obscurity early in their careers, Cormier is likely to follow in the footsteps of former amateur wrestling champions such as Ben Askren and "King" Mo Lawal and garner immediate attention.

Is the UFC Truly Dominant? A Brief Examination of the Boxing vs. MMA Debate
(bloodyelbow.com)
I've always been loudly outspoken in my feelings that there is no "war" between boxing and MMA. Since I was old enough to remember I have been a boxing fan. In fact, I got my start at SB Nation as a writer at BadLeftHook. And I've always been clear that I feel the constant MMA chorus of "boxing is dead" is very much overstated. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to approach the "boxing is healthy" argument and Paul Magno at EastSideBoxing very much takes the wrong approach with statements such as:
