New Blood for the Heavies - Cain Velasquez makes his UFC Debut
(ufc.com)
"Ever notice that when a stellar collegiate wrestling star makes his transition into mixed martial arts, striking is never an issue in those formative months of development? Learning jiu-jitsu can be a frustrating chore, figuring out that what worked on the wrestling mat may not work in the Octagon can be equally baffling, but when it comes to punching, elbowing, and kicking, that’s like being a kid who wakes up on his birthday and finds out he got a snow day off from school as well. Heavyweight prospect Cain Velasquez most certainly agrees."...

Mark Coleman – “The Hammer” Enters the UFC Hall of Fame
(ufc.com)
The next time you watch a UFC event and see a fighter score a double-leg takedown, proceed to change position effortlessly and then ground and pound his opponent out, you can rest assured that Mark Coleman had something to do with it. A mixed martial arts pioneer who won the UFC 10 and UFC 11 tournaments and became the first UFC Heavyweight Champion in 1997, Coleman – who was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame Saturday night in Columbus during the UFC 82 card – has probably influenced the style of more fighters than anyone ever to grace the Octagon.

What's Tickling Mark DellaGrotte's Toes
(sherdog.com)
That first night, as Mark DellaGrotte lay in the floor on a rice mat, trying to sleep and wondering what he was doing on the other side of the planet, he realized that the creatures brushing by his feet were rats. Rats and other things. There was no door to the too-small room in which he was packed with 13 others. Anything could scurry in from the 98-degree night. DellaGrotte himself, for instance. Twenty-four and traveling the world. Had never left the country, then on a plane and off a plane and into the sweltering dark of a different continent. How, again, did he get here?

Randy Couture Picks Tim Sylvia Over Antonio Noguiera
(mmafightline.com)
Randy Couture is, legally speaking, the UFC heavyweight champion. He recently declined an invitation to fight Antonio Noguiera however, stating that he has resigned from the UFC and wished to pursue a fight with consensus number one heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko. He has since battled UFC management in an intense, and very public war of words; and now faces a potential legal battle as well. The latest spat between Couture and the UFC has to do with Couture's work as a cornerman at events held by organizations such as the IFL and HCF. Couture has appearently recieved word from UFC officials that making appearences at such organizations is a breach of contract. Couture sat down with The Calgary Sun to discuss the situation in more detail and also weighted in on the upcoming battle between Noguiera and his replacement at UFC 81, Tim Sylvia.
