Believe It Or Not! Butterbean Wants Kimbo
They don’t want to fight me, I hit too hard! Kimbo doesn’t want to fight anybody that can knock him out and I’m the man that can do it. Kimbo doesn’t want to fight anybody that can hit and I can definitely hit.”
Butterbean also says he can take Kimbo’s punches. Sadly, this is a fight that could actually happen and no one — real MMAers, at least — wants to see it. Place your bets now: does Butterbean last longer than Tank Abbott did?

Bidding Wars Coming to MMA? EliteXC Could Use CBS Deal to Add UFC Talent
In the sport of mixed martial arts, UFC is unquestionably the leading organization, and it's not even close. Other MMA promotions exist, but they haven't even come close to reaching the levels of popularity -- or the levels of fighting talent -- that UFC has achieved.
But EliteXC has a chance of challenging UFC, thanks to a deal that will put it on CBS. Even if they do disappointing ratings by network television standards, the fights CBS will televise on May 31 will instantly become the most-watched fights in American MMA history.
And if EliteXC is smart, it will use that to attract top fighters away from UFC.
EliteXC Fight May Hurt MMA More Than it Helps
On May 31st, MMA will debut on CBS primetime. EliteXC will televise their show live from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.
As a fan I'm excited about the sport finally breaking through to the major networks, but evolution always has a price. The question becomes does EliteXC have the talent to support a show on major network TV. As of right now, the answer is no. Unless the promotion makes significant signings or cross promotional fights, the stable just isn't strong enough.
Fedor's newest offer
A reliable source has confirmed ProElite, Inc. has offered Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko (27-1) a four-fight, 18-month contract.
A request for confirmation or comment from Jeremy Lappen, ProElite Head of Fight Operations, has been ignored.
I'd rather he signed with the UFC WVR, or Dream. There are great fights in each of those orgs, but only maybe one in Elite lol.
Jake Shields Interview
ater this week, Jake Shields (20-4-1) will fight Drew Fickett (32-5) for the first-ever EliteXC welterweight title. It's one of three title fights set for Saturday's Strikeforce/EliteXC show at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.
Shields will go for for his 10th straight victory, but the 29-year-old knows he's got an extremely tough test with Fickett.

Five Rounds Of News 03.21.08
A decidedly slow week for the UFC means tons of news from the rest of the MMA world. DREAM debuts and looks the most like PRIDE since...well, PRIDE. Elite XC reveals more details on their CBS deal and Fedor fought without a contract. Tons of news, tons of videos, tons of poorly phrased opinions!! Five Rounds!!
Kimbo Slice: ‘Now he can become the next mixed martial arts champion’
Check out the 10-second EliteXC commercial that aired on CBS last night during the NCAA tournament for the debut of “Saturday Night Fights” on May 31 below. Kimbo Slice is the centerpiece of the bit, which mentions the word “champion” in the teaser.
Is it possible that he’ll lock horns with Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva on fight night for the EliteXC heavyweight championship or is it just ambiguous advertising?
Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith EliteXC fight slated for CBS Saturday Night Fights on May 31
EliteXC and CBS today issued their highly anticipated news about the debut of mixed martial arts programming on CBS, revealing that EliteXC Middleweight Champion “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler (15-4) will put his 185-pound strap on the line against The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 4 alum Scott “Hands of Steel” Smith (13-4), according to ProElite.com.
As expected, heavyweight bareknuckle brawler turned professional fighter, Kimbo Slice, will headline the show at The Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., against a soon to be named opponent.
Here’s a snip from Kelly Kahl, Senior Executive Vice President, CBS Primetime:
“We’re excited to introduce broadcast television viewers to America’s fastest growing sport with this prime time event. EliteXC is putting together a lineup card that showcases the unique personalities, world-class athleticism, and raw power and emotion that characterizes mixed martial arts.”
The match up between Lawler and Smith was talked about for Smith before his EliteXC debut against Kyle Noke at Street Certified: “Kimbo vs. Tank” last month. Shaw mentioned that the winner of the bout would probably be next in line for a shot at Lawler’s title.
Shaw is apparently a man of his word … at least in this case.
This will be Lawler’s first defense of his title since winning the belt with a third round technical knockout of Ninja Rua back in September 2007. He’s a fighter who loves to sling the leather — 12 of his 15 wins have come via (technical) knockout and he’s currently riding a four-fight win streak.
Smith also has enjoyed recent success, winning his last two fights with first- and second-round (t)ko’s over Jeff Morris and Noke. His style is also to stand and bang with his opponent, making a match up with Lawler a recipe for a stand up war.
First CBS-EliteXC Event Likely Airs May 31
The official press release was expected Wednesday, and though it never came, ProElite.com teased some info, including a May 31 debut date. Additionally, a bulletin there said that the first event date will be promoted during this week's CBS coverage of the NCAA men's basketball tournament.
Today, our friends at fiveouncesofpain.com posted some additional info about the event, including:
The event will take place in Newark, N.J. -- likely at the Prudential Center, which played host to UFC 78 this past November.
Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson will headline the event, though his opponent isn't known.
EliteXC middleweight champ Robbie Lawler will defend his title against Scott Smith.
Gina Carano is expected to fight at the event. (According to fiveouncesofpain.com. Kaitlin Young and Cris Cyborg are the leading candidates to fight her.)
Brett Rogers and Jon Murphy will likely meet in a swing bout for the event.
Washingtonpost.com bashing MMA and CBS Deal with ProElite
Washington Post writer equates CBS/ProElite Deal to televising the Lions killing Christians in the Coliseum. Has some good quotes from a CBS executive and his interest in MMA. It also explains that this is a Deal with the Entertainment branch of CBS not with CBS Sports Branch, but gives a reason for that also. Very good insight what some other sports viewers think of MMA.
