Shaw To Monson: "Get Some Wins Before You Call Out Kimbo"
Doing his best Brett Rogers impersonation, Jeff Monson recently released a video calling out Kimbo Slice. Monson decided to go the video route because as he put it, "I know the (explitive) doesn't read." During the video tirade, Monson called on EliteXC President Gary Shaw to make the match up between he and Kimbo; today the younger Shaw, EliteXC Vice President and matchmaker Jared Shaw responds:
Jake Shields targets Nick Thompson for EliteXC title fight
EliteXC's first-ever welterweight champion will be determined in July, when the organization returns to the CBS airwaves. Veterans Jake Shields (20-4-1) and Nick Thompson (36-9-1), each riding impressive win streaks, will square off for the belt. Shields can't wait. After all, he hand picked his opponent. Shields discussed the events leading up to the bout on a recent edition of TAGG Radio (www.taggradio.com), the official radio partner of MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). "I'm really excited about this fight," Shields said. "I think we're both, me and Nick, right at the top of our group. We're both on a huge win streak. This is the fight I asked for." The title fight takes place July 19 at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, Calif. Shields expected to fight on the nationally televised event, but he didn't initially expect Thompson to be his opponent. Shields had long been planning to face UFC veteran Drew Fickett for the belt. Strangely, however, Fickett pulled out of a scheduled June date with Shields due to injury, only to compete in a smaller organization around the same time. "It's kind of weird," Shields said. "I don't know what happened. I know I was supposed to fight him on the 14th (of June), and on the 7th he fought someone else. I think it was (a) really easy (fight) on the 7th. ... Obviously it was a stupid move. I don't know what he was thinking. That EliteXC would just be like, 'no big deal?' Obviously they weren't happy if they dropped his contract."
Retraction: Update On Kimbo Slice vs. Brett Rogers
Last week Fightline.com reported that Kimbo Slice vs. Brett Rogers was a done deal and that the fight was set for October. (Click here to view that report) While this is a likely possibility it remains just a possibility and is far from a done deal with nothing being signed and platforms, venues and other considerations still up in the air. EliteXC VP and matchmaker Jared Shaw contacted Fightline.com to clarify his position and update our readership on the status of this fight after viewing how the story had been picked up and used on other websites. "Slice-Rogers is far from a done deal. They have each other and this is definitely on the horizon but currently we don't know what our platform will be for the months of October and November and on. It's a fight that is likely to happen within a year." Shaw also told Fightline.com that Rogers is currently in the mix and being discussed as Kimbo's next opponent but there are also two other intriguing names out there for Kimbo and a decision has yet to be made for his next fight.

ProElite Gets Cash Infusion From Showtime
The latest SEC filings by ProElite indicate that the company recently received a cash infusion from CBS/Showtime Networks. Showtime funded a note payable by ProElite and ProElite in return issued warrants to Showtime. The note is payable for $3.5 million but ProElite looks to have received proceeds of $3 million. ProElite looks to be in a cash crunch with cashflow needed to fund the run up to the July 26th card on CBS.
CBS Seeking To Influence Match-Making
With their increasing financial stake in EliteXC, CBS are exerting their power in the board room, but word is that the Tiffany Network is also trying to influence match-making and booking decisions. Sources indicate to MMAPayout.com that there was significant internal pressure by the network to have Gina Carano appear on the July 26th card with just over a month's notice.
Jared Shaw Responds to Reports
MMAPayout.com recently reported information gleaned from industry insiders about Gary Shaw's possible departure from EliteXC as well as CBS's pressure to book Gina Carano for the July 26th card. EliteXC VP Jared Shaw addressed those reports in an interview with MMARated's Ariel Helwani. While Jared Shaw denied the reports, he did acknowledge that Gary Shaw's role was evolving.
Denny excited about matchup with Nick Diaz
It’s a fight I’ve been waiting for, for a long time,” said Denny about the fight with Diaz. EliteXC on Wednesday announced that the CBS-EliteXC Saturday Night Fights event will emulate from Stockton, Calif., the hometown of Diaz. Stepping into hostile territory as the underdog is nothing new to Denny and he looks forward to proving the critics wrong. “I’ve been the underdog in a lot of things,” he commented. “I mean a lot of people down play me a lot. A lot of people hate on me, tell me how bad I suck, that I shouldn’t be there, but you know what, come July 26th when I’m on CBS, everybody’s going to see what Thomas Denny’s really about and that’s whooping ass.”
Elite XC makes ‘Unfinished Business’ official for CBS on July 26
We all knew it was coming, but today Elite XC officially announced its second installment of “Saturday Night Fights” on CBS — “Unfinished Business” is set to take place at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, Calif., on Saturday, July 26. In addition, as earlier reported the promotion will indeed split the event into a co-telecast between CBS and Showtime. Therefore, Showtime will air three high profile fights from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m ET, culminating with the first ever Elite XC heavyweight championship title bout between Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and an unnamed opponent. When pressed for the possible challenger, Elite XC officials would not budge on Silva’s potential opponent at this time. However, International Fight League (IFL) champ Roy “Big Country” Nelson and Dave “Pee Wee” Herman have both been mentioned in the past couple weeks as possibilities. In addition, 145-pound standout and Brazilian jiu-jitsu stud Wilson Reis is also rumored to be a part of the Showtime portion of the event.
Gina Carano: I Want Tara LaRosa
Although it probably won't be her next fight due to the two fighting for different organizations, Gina Carano recently said that if she could pick her next opponent, she wants to fight Tara LaRosa, who just signed with the AFL.

Gary Shaw On His Way Out at ProElite?
Speculation within the MMA industry suggests that Gary Shaw's days at ProElite may be numbered. Rumors suggest that Shaw may be out by the end of the summer, possibly soon after the July 26 CBS event. Multiple sources have told MMAPayout.com that the expected move is another example of CBS's growing influence on the company. Santa Monica Capital Partners, the largest shareholder in the company, is also believed to have taken a more active role in the company of late.
Nick Diaz vs. Thomas Denny on July 26
On Elite XC's July 26 CBS card, Nick Diaz will take on...Thomas Denny: EliteXC lightweight Nick Diaz (17-7) will meet former King of the Cage champion Thomas Denny (26-16) at the next EliteXC-CBS "Saturday Night Fights" event, which takes place July 26 at Stockton Arena in Stockton, Calif. Sherdog.com is reporting that bout agreements should be signed today. EliteXC had planned for Diaz to rematch lightweight champ KJ Noons in his next bout later this year, but with the organization heading to Diaz's hometown, plans apparently changed.
Diaz-Denny Banked for July 26 CBS-EliteXC
Thomas Denny has no problems walking into the lion's den. The former King of the Cage champion has agreed to face resident troublemaker Nick Diaz in his hometown of Stockton, Calif. on EliteXC's second CBS-televised card at the Stockton Arena on July 26. Contracts are expected to be inked Tuesday. The 160-pound bout joins a previously announced matchup between the much-vaunted Jake Shields and former Bodog Fight champion Nick Thompson for the vacant EliteXC welterweight crown. A self-promoting crowd-pleaser, the "Wildman" has waged over 40 battles in the cage since 1999, including key victories over Tony Fryklund and Olaf Alonso. Denny's three-fight deal with the Pro Elite promotion kicked off against the single-named muay Thai striker Malaipet on a ShoXC "Elite Challenger Series" card last March. Malaipet was disqualified for elbowing Denny to the back of the head at the conclusion of the first round. Denny and Diaz had been slated to meet in other organizations on two different occasions.
Nick Diaz and KJ Noons will not fight on July 26
MMAmania.com has just learned that Nick Diaz will not fight Elite XC Lightweight Champion KJ Noons on the next CBS show entitled “Unfinished Business,” which is slated for July 26. The match up appeared to be all but guaranteed — Noons and Diaz were involved in a post-fight tussle at the “Return of the King” show earlier this month after Noons defended his 160-pound title against Yves Edwards. Diaz was invited in to the ring to discuss a rematch with Noons and the entire situation descended into chaos rather quickly. Noons defeated Diaz via technical knockout (cuts) at Elite XC: “Renegade” back in November 2007. It was a decision that did not sit well with the volatile Diaz and the smack talk has escalated ever since. Recent speculation has the July 26 CBS show headed for Stockton, Calif., which is where Diaz calls home. He’ll likely still compete on the card, considering it’s possibly in his backyard and his scheduled fight against Hayuto “Mach” Sakurai for the Dream welterweight title fight on July 21 (just five days prior to “Saturday Night Fights”) was recently scrapped because of contractual obligations with Pro Elite (the Elite XC parent company). Stay tuned for more details on this developing story.
