DREAM 7 Preview: FW Opening Round
DREAM Featherweight GP Bout: Masakazu Imanari vs. Atsushi Yamamoto
DEEP bantamweight champion Masakazu Imanari faces off with Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto protégé Atsushi Yamamoto. This will be the main event of the evening and the highlight of the first round of the DREAM Featherweight Grand Prix. To say that this is a contrast of styles would be a huge understatement, seeing that Imanari is a straight submission fighter and Yamamoto a wrestler.
Although Imanari’s style is odd, it is very effective. He has nothing to offer on the feet, but if he gets the fight on the ground then he’ll lock on a submission. Yamamoto needs to use his wrestling, keeping his feet away from Imanari and shutting out any submission attempts. By default Yamamoto will have an advantage on the feet because Imanari has zero stand-up. For Imanari to win, he’ll need to do what he does best and lock on a submission, while Yamamoto needs to keep the fight on the feet and punish Imanari with strikes.
10 March Tussles Worth Watching
Despite a lack of star power, February was a solid month for mixed martial arts. The Nate Marquardt-Wilson Gouveia and Nick Thompson-Paul Daley fights -- Sherdog.com’s top-ranked bouts for the month -- delivered the goods as far as all-out action between evenly matched opponents was concerned.
The signs for March are similar. Most of the sport’s top pound-for-pound talent will not return until summer, so guys like Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Aleksander Emelianenko will get their chance to shine. With tough opponents like Keith Jardine and Ibragim Magomedov in their way, fans are guaranteed competitive matchups.
Kawajiri Added To DREAM 7
After a brief foray into K-1 kickboxing, MMA veteran Tatsuya Kawajiri is back in familiar territory. "The Crusher" has been added to DREAM 7, where he will face Ross Ebanez in a non-Featherweight GP match.
Aoki Among Additions to DREAM 7
Shinya Aoki's "submission pants" are going to get an extra workout before the DREAM Welterweight GP at DREAM 8. He's just been added to DREAM 7, facing David Gardner in a match where Aoki's WAMMA Lightweight Title likely will not be on the line. Also added is Mitsuhiro Ishida, being considered for an April fight against Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Josh Thomson.

John Alessio in talks to fight Shinya Aoki during DREAM welterweight Grand Prix
Rumors have been sweeping the Internet in recent days pointing to a welterweight affiliated with the Xtreme Couture camp in Las Vegas as being involved in negotiations to fight WAMMA lightweight champion Shinya Aoki during the first round of DREAM’s upcoming welterweight tournament.

You would think that the Dream middleweight champion would have an entourage surrounding him like most champions do these days, but the lanky 6-foot-1 fighter is alone.
