Bjorn Rebney: High hopes for Bellator's welterweight division 'rock stars'
Bellator Fighting Championship's reigning 170-pound champion has been, for lack of a better word, untouchable. Oh, sure, Ben Askren's been tested, if you consider "tested" to be a couple guys taking some rounds against him. Jay Hieron even got a judge to say he beat him. But for the most part, it's been smooth sailing for the standout wrestler. And maybe that's why Bjorn Rebney is starting to get excited about the near future for his welterweight roster.
Eddie Alvarez Is Now A Free Agent
Former Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez was given his release from a 90-day exclusive negotiating period with Bellator early, according to Alvarez. That makes him a free agent, and allows him to sign with any promotion - such as the UFC - if he elects to. Bellator typically holds fighters to a 90-day window where they can match any offer received. Alvarez had his contract expire after a recent victory over Patricky Pitbull in October. "Bjorn Rebney (Bellator CEO) was gracious enough to give us our release papers early, earlier than what we were contractually to get, he gave it to us (last) Friday," said Alvarez, talking with MMAInterviews.TV over the weekend. "So, we're going to try to move it along as fast as possible for myself and for Bellator. We'll see. Nothing's set in stone and I'm just waiting to see what happens."
Bellator announces 'Vote for the Fight' series to choose first Spike TV main event
Bellator next week will debut an interactive feature that will allow fans to pick the first main event for the promotion's debut on Spike TV. The promotion on Friday announced "Vote for the Fight" during the MTV2 broadcast of Bellator 79, which took place at Canada's Casino Rama in Rama, Ontario. Bellator events currently air Fridays on MTV through the remainder of Season 7, but will move to Spike TV starting in January 2013. "Vote for the Fight" is a "web series" that premieres Thursday at Spike.com. It will follow four of the promotion's top welterweights, and fans then can vote for the fight they want to see in the Season 8 premiere's main event in January. Paul Daley, Ben Saunders, Douglas Lima and Jon "War Machine" Koppenhaver are the four fighters profiled in the web series and on the ballot. According to promotion for the series, the behind-the-scenes profiles of the four fighters will follow "their home lives, their training – everything they do to get mentally and physically prepared for the fight that (the fans) will vote for."

After her recent successful return from a 19-month injury layoff, Zoila Frausto Gurgel (12-1 MMA, 6-0 BFC) is wasting no time for her next challenge. She's now agreed to fight fellow 125-pound standout Jessica Eye (8-1 MMA, 2-0 BFC) at Bellator 83 in December. MMARising.com first reported the bout, which MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) subsequently confirmed with Bellator officials. Bellator 83 takes place Dec. 7 at New Jersey's Caesars Atlantic City. The main card, including Gurgel vs. Eye, airs on MTV2 following prelims on Spike.com.

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney will waive matching period should Eddie Alvarez not re-sign
Negotiations to keep Eddie Alvarez in Bellator resumed nearly the moment he stepped out of the cage following a knockout of Patricky "Pitbull" Freire. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney now has advanced the timeline on Alvarez's decision, telling MMAjunkie.com that he'll waive a standard 90-day matching period if the ex-champ doesn't initially take a new contract offer. "Based on our relationship with Ed, there's no reason to hold him to a series of months of not having the opportunity to look at those offers," Rebney said.
Lyman Good vs. Andrey Koreshkov Tourney Final Targeted For Bellator 82
If everything goes to plan, Lyman Good (14-2 MMA, 7-2 BFC) and Andrey Koreshkov (12-0 MMA, 4-0 BFC) will fight for Bellator's Season 7 welterweight-tournament championship at Bellator 82. The event takes place Nov. 30 at a venue to be announced. Bellator CEO and Chairman Bjorn Rebney said the date isn't set it stone but is currently preferred for the conclusion to the eight-man tournament. Good and Koreshkov co-headlined this past Friday's MTV-televised Bellator 78 event at Nutter Center in Fairborn, Ohio. Both emerged victorious in their semifinal-round bouts and now are a win away from a guaranteed title shot against champion Ben Askren or recent tourney winner Karl Amoussou, who are expected to meet in early 2013.

Bellator set to expedite Eddie Alvarez's free agency decision
Despite a 90-day window that allows Bellator to exclusively negotiate with sought-after free agent Eddie Alvarez, the promotion's CEO Bjorn Rebney doesn't expect to take nearly that long to determine whether he can strike a deal with the former lightweight champion. In a Friday night interview with MMA Fighting, Rebney said that Bellator has made Alvarez an offer, and that Alvarez's response will determine the next step. If he accepts it, he stays in the Bellator fold where he will be prominently featured as the promotion moves to its new broadest home on Spike. And if he doesn't, Rebney will allow him to bypass the remaining 70+ days of the exclusive negotiating period and take his talents to the open market, where he will no doubt be MMA's hottest commodity. Such a move would ultimately benefit both sides, as it would allow Alvarez to restart his career faster than expected, while it would also offer Bellator a chance to properly gauge its assets as it heads into its pivotal 2013.
Bellator 79 lineup complete, champ Eduardo Dantas and Paul Daley off card
The lineup is set for next week's Bellator 79 event, and two notable names are off the card. Following his knockout loss to Tyson Nam in August at Shooto Brazil 33, Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas is out of his title fight with Marcos Galvao. Additionally, visa issues have forced welterweight Paul Daley off the card.
Bellator Making Hard Push to Keep Eddie Alvarez
According to Alvarez’s manager, Glenn Robinson of Authentic Sports Management, Bellator is pushing hard to keep their former champion right where he is as they make their transition to Spike TV in 2013. “Bjorn and Eddie had a great conversation and had some great talks. Bjorn has expressed interest in keeping Eddie, and talks have gone really well, and that’s all I can really say at this point,” Robinson told MMAWeekly.com this week. “Talks have gone really well with Bellator and Eddie just wants to fight the best fighters he can, and get a contract he feels is fair, but I can tell you Bjorn has gone out of his way to make Eddie feel welcome and talks have gone well so far, so we’ll see what the future brings,” said Robinson.
Bellator 77's Rich Clementi: I've made a career out of beating undefeated fighters
Longtime MMA fighter Rich Clementi has been in this position before. During his 13 years and 66 professional fights in the MMA world, he's faced countless opponents who were dubbed the next big thing, much like undefeated Alexander Sarnavskiy, whom he faces at Friday's Bellator 77 event. "This isn't going to be the first time I've dethroned an undefeated fighter with a lot of hype around him," Clementi told MMAjunkie.com.

After arrest, Brett Rogers gets rare second chance at Bellator 75
The police report paints an ugly picture. To read it is to put yourself there, in suburban Minneapolis, at 12:35 a.m. on June 29, 2011, by which point Brett Rogers has already done the things that will cost him his job, his self-respect, and, at least for a little while, his freedom. You read it and you see Rogers – all 6-foot-4, 260 pounds of him – drunk and slurring his words as he talks to police officers in his driveway. You keep reading, and you see Tiuana, his wife of seven years, dazed and disoriented as she stumbles down the street in the dark, only to be picked up by officers who will later describe the "golfball-sized" bump above her left eye, the blood smeared on her face, the missing tooth. You see the couple's children, who will later tell a neighbor that they're scared to go home...

Dana White: (Spike TV) Is the Worst Channel in the History of the World
Divorce is always hard and while both parties involved try to remain amicable, it happens quite often that things break down and end up in a shouting match between the two parties. It’s no different in the world of sports and television because when relationships are going well, there’s nothing but smiles and handshakes all around. But when things break down, and the mud starts slinging, it’s open season on any and all comments made towards each other in the press. For months after leaving Spike TV in favor of a new 7-year deal with Fox, UFC President Dana White remained on fairly solid ground with his former television partner. He wasn’t likely going to send much business their way, but still White stayed fairly friendly towards his competitors at Spike TV after their long relationship helped build the UFC and the network to new heights. Now, the gloves are off and both seem ready to aim and fire at one another whenever the gun is loaded, and following UFC 152 on Saturday night, White blasted off a few shots at his former television home...

Rebney explains contract matching in wake of Tyson Nam ordeal
Bellator chief Bjorn Rebney said his promotion was trying to give Tyson Nam an opportunity when it greenlighted a fight with bantamweight champ Eduardo Dantas – despite having released the fighter two months prior. Now that Nam has capitalized on that opportunity, Rebney said, Bellator wants its own opportunity to match other offers the fighter has received since his stunning KO of Dantas. "If you have an agreement with someone, and ultimately you give them a great opportunity … when that agreement is over, you have the right to match," - You gonna cry Bjorn? Do I see a little bit of moisture forming in the corner of your eye?

Season 7 heavyweight tourney field, full fight card set for Bellator 75 in Hammond, Ind.
