(mmajunkie.com)

Bellator's Mo Lawal has recovery advice for injured UFC champ Dominick Cruz
(mmajunkie.com)
Bellator light heavyweight and TNA wrestler Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal can relate to UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz; his body also rejected a cadaver's ACL following knee surgery. "But the thing was, I was too afraid to go back," Lawal today told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio). "I didn't care. I just kept fighting on it, and Dominick is doing the right thing by going to get it fixed." Cruz could also do well to mentally prepare himself for a full recovery. "To me, coming from a high level of wrestling, you see guys have surgery all the time," said the 31-year-old Lawal (8-1 MMA, 0-0 BFC), who gave a soft confirmation of his Jan. 17 Bellator debut in Irvine, Calif. "Being at the Olympic Training Center, there are guys that live in the training room. You see guys bounce back.

Ex-Bellator champ Zach Makovsky rolls on following loss to Eduardo Dantas
(mmajunkie.com)
Eduardo Dantas is not the first person to have issued a beating to Zach Makovsky. There are two other fighters who've beaten the former Bellator bantamweight champion on the pro circuit. But there are countless training partners who have done it in the gym. The easy-going Makovsky (14-3 MMA, 6-1 BFC) says that's the point. "The training always keeps me very humble," the 30-year-old fighter told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) in advance of his fight with Anthony Leone (11-5 MMA, 1-2 BFC) at Bellator 83, which takes place Friday at Caesars Atlantic City in New Jersey (Makovsky vs. Leone serves on the MTV2-televised main-card following prelims on Spike.com.)

Attila Vegh out of Bellator 84 title fight with champ Christian M'Pumbu
(mmajunkie.com)
Christian M'Pumbu's first light heavyweight title defense will have to wait yet again. Bellator's 205-pound champion was set to defend his belt for the first time later this month at Bellator 84. But an injury to opponent Attila Vegh (25-7-2 MMA, 4-0 BFC) will force him out of the fight and off the card, and M'Pumbu (18-4-1 MMA, 3-1 BFC) will be off the card along with him. Sources close to the promotion on Monday confirmed the news to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) and also said the fight falling off will, for now, result in just three fights on the televised main card.

Muhammed Lawal set for Bellator debut on Jan. 17
(mmafighting.com)
According to sources close to the event, "King Mo" will make his first Bellator appearance on Thursday, Jan. 17, at the UCI Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif. Lawal will compete in the promotion's light heavyweight tournament. No word just yet on who the former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion will meet in the first round of the tournament. The win, however, was changed to a no contest by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after he tested positive for the anabolic steroid drostanolone.

Bellator announces championship-rematch clause with move to Spike TV
(mmajunkie.com)
While fighters will continue to control their destiny in the Bellator cage, chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney has given himself some wiggle room. The fight executive today announced a new championship-rematch clause that will go into effect with the organization's upcoming move to Spike TV. When "called for," Rebney will have the option to book title-fight rematches. Rebney said he listed to feedback and made the change. "When a fighter's earned a shot at the world title by winning The Toughest Tournament in Sports and competes in a title fight that knocks fans like us back in our seats (win or lose) delivering an incredible fight, when a rematch is called for, we will deliver it." he wrote on bellator.com. "Championship fights give us some of the greatest moments in MMA. And, rematches of incredible championship fights will give fans like us more of those electrifying moments while staying true to the world’s best fighters having had to earn their way to those title shots."

Bellator reality show soon enters production with 'wickedly' good cast of fighters
(mmajunkie.com)
Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney still isn't ready to divulge all the details about his company's new reality show, which begins filming in late January or early February, but he's dropping some big hints. On Friday MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) caught up with the fight executive to discuss the new venture. While he said the show will include plenty of storytelling, he said it'll also involve a group of fighters who surpass the talent level of any previous MMA-related reality series. "There are some wickedly good pros on this show," he told MMAjunkie.com. "I think we have the greatest collection of talent that's ever been on a reality show in this genre." The "genre," of course, includes "The Ultimate Fighter," the UFC's long-running and ground-breaking reality series. The show, currently in its 16th season, began on Spike TV in 2005 before a move to FX this year as part of the mega UFC-FOX deal...

Bellator Targets Thursday, Jan. 10, For Season 8 Debut Event On Spike TV
(mmajunkie.com)
With MMA's big 2013 television-schedule shuffle rapidly approaching, Bellator Fighting Championships has apparently played its first card. MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has confirmed with the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board that Bellator has reserved Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall for Thursday, Jan. 10. Bellator officials were not immediately available for comment, but sources close to the promotion suggested that event will serve as Bellator 85 and mark the company's debut on Spike TV. "The Jan. 10 has already been formally requested and officially reserved for Bellator in Atlantic City," NJSACB Counsel Nick Lembo told MMAjunkie.com. Officials have already been assigned for the evening, and as an interesting side note, recently retired UFC veteran Tom DeBlass is expected to serve as a shadow judge. Spike TV officials would not confirm the plans and would only suggest that the network is "exploring many different options right now." However, additional sources indicated the network is leaning toward a 10 p.m. ET slot, which would allow Spike TV to use TNA Impact Wrestling (which also employs Bellator light heavyweight contender Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal) as lead-in programming for the MMA promotion's weekly events. Bellator is currently in the middle of its seventh season, the final one on MTV2 before the organization moves to the higher-rated Spike TV, the former home of the UFC, next year. The promotion is currently earning an average of 168,700 viewers per Season 7 event, but that figure is expected to rise when the promotion moved to Spike TV, which has been a primary destination for MMA fans since the 2006 debut of "The Ultimate Fighter

Vinicius Queiroz camp to protest referee performance during loss at Bellator 80
(mmajunkie.com)
Vinicius Queiroz's manager thinks the referee may have contributed to the fighter's loss to Alexander Volkov at this past Friday's Bellator 80. An email protesting the officiating today was forwarded to MMAjunkie.com. "[Referee James] Warring could have contributed to [and] altered the result of the fight after he ordered the fighters to rise up with [after] only 15 seconds [on the ground] … in a moment that was favorable for Vincius," manager Josef Borges wrote to the Florida State Boxing Commission, which oversaw the event at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla.

Bellator 83 in Atlantic City Gets Martinez vs. Shamhalaev Featherweight Tournament Final
(sherdog.com)
Bellator Fighting Championships’ Season 7 featherweight tournament will come to a close Dec. 7 when finalists Rad Martinez and Shahbulat Shamhalaev square off at Bellator 83. Sherdog.com confirmed the booking Monday with a source close to the event, which will air live on MTV2 and Spike.com from Caesars Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J. The main card will also feature women’s champ Zoila Gurgel in a non-title affair against Jessica Eye, while former bantamweight titlist Zach Makovsky takes on Anthony Leone. Martinez looks to improve on a perfect 4-0 Bellator record after the biggest win of his career, a Nov. 9 unanimous decision against WEC vet Wagnney Fabiano. The 25-year-old wrestler, who signed with the promotion last year after appearing on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines,” punched his ticket to that semifinal matchup with an Oct. 12 outpointing of Nazareno Malegarie. Shamhalaev has put in considerably less work during his tournament run, taking out two opponents in a combined 6:34. After halting Cody Bollinger toward the end of the opening round in their quarterfinal, the Russian import made his way to the final by stopping favored American Mike Richman in less than two minutes on Nov. 2. Undercard bouts confirmed for the event include Chris Liguori vs. Darrell Horcher at lightweight, Brylan Van Artsdalen vs. Terrell Hobbs at featherweight and Matt Lozano vs. Tuan Pham at flyweight.
