Season 7 heavyweight tourney field, full fight card set for Bellator 75 in Hammond, Ind.
(mmajunkie.com)
The field for Bellator's Season 7 heavyweight tournament is set – and the eight-man field may be thinking about a little more than just the $100,000 winner's prize. On Wednesday, news broke that Bellator's heavyweight champ, Cole Konrad, had retired – presumably leaving the heavyweight title vacant. It is not yet known if the Season 7 tournament winner automatically will become the new champion, although that appears to be at least one option for the promotion. Sources close to the promotion on Wednesday confirmed to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) the field for the eight-man tournament, which kicks off next month at Bellator 75, as well as the event's preliminary card. Bellator officials are expected to make the bouts official this week. MAIN CARD (MTV2) Eric Prindle vs. Thiago Santos - heavyweight tourney opening round Brett Rogers vs. Alexander Volkov - heavyweight tourney opening round Richard Hale vs. Mike Wessel - heavyweight tourney opening round Mark Holata vs. Vinicius Queiroz - heavyweight tourney opening round PRELIMINARY CARD (Spike.com) Bo Harris vs. Chase Beebe Brandon Delprado vs. Joe Williams Jason Graves vs. Rafal Skibinski Jose Medina vs. Anthony Gomez Cliff Wright Jr. vs. Bobby Reardanz

Big Nog/Herman, Teixeira/Maldonaldo added to Rio card
(ufc.com)
Just a day after being hit by two major injuries, the UFC 153 card planned for Rio has bounced back with not two but three huge new fights. Already 2-0 in the UFC at light heavyweight, pound for pound king Anderson Silva will head 20 pounds north once more on Saturday, October 13 to meet former Ultimate Fighter finalist Stephan Bonnar in the new three-round main event of UFC 153 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The news was broken by USA Today on Wednesday evening. The bout comes on the heels of the injury to featherweight champion Jose Aldo that forced the postponement of the card’s original headliner pitting Aldo against Frankie Edgar. The UFC 153 card also has a new co-main event, as Brazilian bomber Fabio Maldonado will replace Quinton "Rampage" Jackson against countryman Glover Teixeira. The recent retirement of Jorgen Kruth had bumped Maldonado off September 29th's card in Nottingham, Also added to the event in Rio de Janeiro is a heavyweight bout between the legendary Minotauro Nogueira and the always-dangerous Dave Herman. UFC officials confirmed that the main card will now boast six bouts. Sick fights

UFC Quick Quote: Brian Stann won't last as long as a virgin on prom night
(mmamania.com)
"A stupid mistake aside, I mince Brian Stann's arse like burger meat nine times out of 10. I've not seen too much evolution in his game. He's the same guy, someone who will always be dangerous but isn't a top talent in the division and never will be. Stann has talked big about how he's going to put me to sleep. Well, that's a fact. I can't avoid it. None of us can. Brian is going to tell some more deathly boring old war stories at the pre-fight press conference, and we are all going to be in for a snooze. I was kicking arse in the UFC when Stann was peeling potatoes, shining shoes and getting called a 'maggot' by some red-faced sergeant in the Marines. This isn't warfare, this is MMA, and I'm better at it than Brian Stann will ever be. On September 22, Brian Stann is getting knocked out - fast. He won't last as long as a virgin on prom night."

Rumor: Wanderlei Silva Vs. Chael Sonnen Possible For UFC 153 Main Event
(bloodyelbow.com)
As you know by now, UFC 153 capsized and doesn't have its main event or co-main event. Jose Aldo has a foot injury and is out of his title fight with Frankie Edgar, and Quinton Jackson's shoulder injury sees him out of his fight with Glover Teixeira. The UFC is scrambling for a replacement main event knowing that while their other main card fights are great, they aren't main event worthy. A possible new main event could be a catchweight bout between Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen. (Via Fighters Only) A fight between Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen is a possible replacement main event for UFC 153 on October 13. Silva has publicly voiced willingness to meet Sonnen if the UFC officially offers the match and sources say that the bout is under consideration. It would take place at a catchweight of 195lbs - between middleweight and light-heavy - to reflect the short-notice nature of the bout.

Machida hints at Teixeira vs Wanderlei fight
(espn.co.uk)
Lyoto Machida may have shed light on the UFC's answer to Tuesday's injury withdrawals from the 153 card, after claiming a surprise is coming for MMA fans. UFC 153 was rocked by injuries to Jose Aldo and Rampage Jackson on Tuesday, leaving the card without a main or co-main event. It remains to be seen if respective rivals Frankie Edgar and Glover Teixeira will be handed replacement bouts, or removed from the card to make way for two new fights. Machida has stirred the rumour pot by posting an image of himself, sitting next to Wanderlei Silva, Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera and Mauricio Shogun Rua. The picture was accompanied by the words: "We are preparing a big surprise for you." Read more at http://www.espn.co.uk/ufc/sport/story/169850.html#yxgQbgYwQUga34oj.99

Lyoto Machida Says He Has 'A Big Surprise' Coming
(bloodyelbow.com)
After UFC 153 completely fell apart yesterday, everyone and their dog has been talked about to fill the gaping holes in the card. One of the most talked-about guys was Lyoto Machida, since he doesn't actually have a scheduled fight at the moment. Machida added to the speculation by tweeting something that has got some people buzzing: Lyoto Machida ? @lyotomachidafw Estamos preparando uma grande surpresa para vcs! pic.twitter.com/fHQwO17B 11 Sep 12 ReplyRetweetFavorite Translation: We are preparing a big surprise for you! Silva tweeted the following last night: Wanderlei Silva ? @wandfc UFC RIO??? 11 Sep 12 ReplyRetweetFavorite And Big Nog told Sherdog he's ready to go, even though he said that last time (he was supposed to fight Cheick Kongo in July at UFC 149): "My recovery is 100 percent. My physical therapist, we worked a lot, sometimes six, seven hours a day. I tried getting better for July but I got hurt again. I think it was too soon. I broke my bone in December and I started to train again at the end of March. I think it was too soon. Now, it's totally recovered and I started to train again in mid-July. I feel my arm is getting stronger, getting faster. I feel all my skills are getting better and I'm ready to go. I'm training every day, doing my strength and conditioning, little by little and I hope to fight soon. I'm just waiting on confirmation from the UFC."

Magalhaes 2.0 trades sloppy for bold
(espn.go.com)
Vinny Magalhaes is a world-class grappler. That much was obvious from his run through "The Ultimate Fighter" season 8 cast, where he submitted everyone he faced leading up to the final, including his former training partner at Team Quest, Krzysztof Soszynski. Yet, while he was super-slick horizontally, he was shackled by his own subpar stand-up. It was a glaring deficiency, and one he simply couldn’t compensate for. We saw it when he was knocked out at the hands of Ryan Bader in the "TUF" finale that season, and again when Eliot Marshall didn’t compromise an inch at UFC 97. The Marshall fight was the shoulder-shrugging moment for the UFC. It served him his walking papers because his game wasn’t whole. By now, the bulletin is an old one that’s been passed around and snickered over for years: This is MMA, not “The Singular Thing You’re Great At.” Disciplines have to come together in concert; otherwise, what shows up isn’t the medals earned in world submission grappling tournaments. What shows up instead are your world-class deficiencies. The UFC, after all, is made up of cold-blooded exploitists. When Magalhaes left the UFC, he had an overall professional MMA record that was sub-.500. Things needed to change. So what did he do?

Aldo out of fight with Frankie due to foot injury
(mmajunkie.com)
Jose Aldo is out. Dana just posted, sounded pretty disheartened. Wasn't there a picture floating around of Aldo training with a heavily bandaged foot after his accident? Supposedly he was going to be good to go, but maybe it got infected is my thinking.

Vladimir Matyushenko injured; Roger Hollett back in to meet Matt Hamill at UFC 152
(mmajunkie.com)
It's deja vu all over again for Matt Hamill. In his first fight back after retirement, Hamill (10-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) now will – once again – face Roger Hollett (13-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC) after Vladimir Matyushenko (26-6 MMA, 7-4 UFC) was forced out of the fight with an injury. UFC officials on Tuesday announced the new booking – a re-booking – saying a torn Achille's tendon will keep Matyushenko out. UFC 152 takes place Sept. 22 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto with a main card airing on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook. The Hamill-Matyushenko bout was slated for the main card, and it is expected that Hamill-Hollett will appear there, as well. Hamill originally was booked to face Hollett, a UFC newcomer, when it was announced this past month that he would return from a short retirement. But just three weeks ago, it was announced that Hollett had been forced off the card and Matyushenko had stepped in on short notice. But with Matyushenko now hurt, Hollett is back in the mix. It is not clear why Hollett was removed from the fight with Hamill to begin with this past month, though he was not injured.

Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson hurt, forced out of UFC 153 co-main event vs. Glover Teixeira
(mmajunkie.com)
After all the controversy over Quinton "Rampage" Jackson wanting out of his contract, it turns out he won't fight at UFC 153 after all. Jackson (32-10 MMA, 7-4 UFC) is injured and out of his co-main event fight against Glover Teixeira (18-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) next month in Brazil. UFC President Dana White on Tuesday tweeted the news. The nature of his injury was not announced. It is not yet known if a replacement for Jackson will be sought to step in on just under five weeks' notice, or if Teixeira will be pulled from the card. UFC 153 takes place Oct. 13 at HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro. The pay-per-view features a main event featherweight title fight between Brazilian champion Jose Aldo and former lightweight champ Frankie Edgar.

UFC boss White still keen on Silva vs. St-Pierre, says Silva vs. Jones also possible
(mmajunkie.com)
~~ If 2012 was the year of the UFC injury, 2013 may very well be the year of the UFC superfight. UFC President Dana White today told HDNet's "Inside MMA" that not only is an Anderson Silva (32-4 MMA, 15-0 UFC) vs. Georges St-Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) bout looking more and more likely if "GSP" can defeat Carlos Condit but that Silva vs. Jon Jones (16-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC) could very well happen, too. ~~
