Anderson Silva-Vitor Belfort Targeted For 2011, Possibly UFC 125
As it turns out, Vitor Belfort isn't injured. And, in fact, he's expected to meet UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva early next year, possibly in the headliner of a UFC 125 event on Jan. 1 in Las Vegas. Belfort had been scheduled to fight Yushin Okami in the headliner of November's UFC 122 event before a recent card change. Instead, as first reported by MMAWeekly, Okami now fights recent UFC Fight Night 22 winner Nate Marquardt. Although initially believed to be injured, Belfort is, in fact, healthy, according to a recent Twitter post from UFC president Dana White. Belfort now will bypass the No. 1 contender's bout at UFC 122 for an immediate title shot with Silva. UFC 125 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and the night's main card airs on pay-per-view. The event currently needs a headliner, and Silva vs. Belfort certainly fits the bill.

UFC Cuts Tomasz Drwal
The pink slips just keep on coming as a 3rd fighter since just yesterday has been cut-this time it's Tomasz Drwal. He had an impressive 3-fight win streak after losing his UFC debut against Thiago Silva, but like many before him he's fallen victim to the Losing Streak Of Doom and his last fight-a UFN 22 loss to Dave Branch-turned out to be his last in UFC.

Commission: Filipovic Already Examined, Initially Cleared for Saturday
Indiana State Athletic Commission Director Andy Means said Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic has already been examined and initially cleared by a commission-approved physician for his headlining bout against Frank Mir at UFC 119 Saturday at the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. On Friday, Croatian news site Index.hr reported that the 36-year-old striker had injured his eye during a final training session in his homeland and couldn’t get clearance from a physician to leave the country for the U.S., thus putting the main-event bout in jeopardy. Filipovic himself eventually confirmed the injury with local press as he boarded his plane for the States. Wearing sunglasses, the former Croatian Parliament member said he wouldn’t withdraw from the bout despite the injury. The 2006 Pride Fighting Championships Open-Weight grand prix champion reportedly arrived in the U.S., on Sunday. “The UFC informed me this afternoon that Cro Cop saw the ophthalmologist today in Indianapolis and that he was cleared to fight. I anticipate seeing the results soon but all indications are that this is a non-issue,” wrote Means in an email to Sherdog.com on Monday. “He will just have to undergo the same pre-fight physical as the other 21 fighters this weekend before the event.“

UFC Cuts John Gunderson
Another UFC lightweight got Das Boot today, as John Gunderson has been released. He lost to Yves Edwards at UFN 22, but he was to have originally faced Efrain Escudero before injuries caused massive lineup shuffling. In fact, all 3 of his fights had him either being a short-notice replacement or having his original opponent drop out due to injuries or other changes. He went 1-2 in UFC.

Chael Sonnen To Appeal Failed Steroids Test
Duh, I guess? But according to his manager, Mike Roberts, of course they're going to appeal the post-UFC 117 drug test result. Just don't expect comments from them. "It is our policy not to comment on pending actions by the Athletic Commission. Chael is consulting with his legal advisors and physicians and will have a statement in the near future. Chael will file an appeal with the CSAC and looks forward to working with the Commission to resolve this matter." The appeal will be heard on December 2.

Where is Chael Sonnen?
You know something is very, very wrong when Chael Sonnen has nothing to say: the fighter lauded for a terrific 23-minute performance against Anderson Silva in early August is now a virtual shut-in thanks to California Athletic Commission Executive Director George Dodd confirming Sonnen tested positive for performance enhancers -- a charge prompted by abnormally high levels of testosterone.

Carlos Condit Is Going To have Trouble Clearing Customs After Dan Hardy's Through With Him At UFC 120
So says Hardy in his latest round of trash talk. "Condit says it was 'nothing personal' when he went to the UFC and demanded a fight with me. It was, he said, purely business. No, Carlos. Calling me out, asking to fight me by name, does make it very personal. To go the UFC and say you want to fight someone in particular is to say: 'I can beat this guy, no problem, and further my career.' How can you not expect that to be taken personally? But this is very personal to me now. I am going to put a real beating on this guy. When he gets his flight back to the US, he will have trouble clearing customs because he will look nothing like his passport photo. Carlos is training with Greg Jackson, who no doubt is going to try and put another 'safety first' game plan together. He encourages his guys to take the low-risk route, which usually turns out to be quite strategic and a little boring. That will mess up Condit's natural instincts. I just don't think that a Greg Jackson game plan is suitable for Condit's style of fighting or his mentality as a fighter. Condit is called 'the Natural Born Killer' with reason and as soon as I drop him a couple of times, he will revert to his instincts and try to fight fire with fire. Carlos has got a lot of heart, no doubt about that. He will give everything he's got. But all of what he's got isn't just enough."

Sonnen told CSAC that he had been taking illegal substances before the fight
Sonnen, 33, of West Linn, Ore., was apparently concerned enough about the possibility that he would render a positive test that he told CSAC executive director George Dodd he used an illegal performance enhancing drug leading up to the biggest fight of his life.

UFC Cuts Efrain Escudero
The trivia answer to the first-ever Ultimate Fighter season winner to be cut from UFC came today: Season 8 winner Efrain Escudero. He was released today following a UFN 22 loss to Charles Oliveira, a fight Escudero failed to make weight for. Escudero is cut despite having a 3-2 UFC record, but was only 1-2 in his last 3 fights. He's already talking to other promotions.

CSAC: Sonnen-Silva Rematch "Unlikely" Unless Appeal Heard Before Year's End (Updated)
Chael Sonnen is "unlikely" to get a rematch with Anderson Silva targeted for next year's Super Bowl weekend if he does not quickly answer to a notice informing him of a positive test for a banned performance-enhancer. California State Athletic Commission Executive Director George Dodd today said that Sonnen is currently under suspension and has 30 days to respond to the notice, which came nearly six weeks after his title fight with Silva at UFC 117. Dodd said he plans to release the drug for which Sonnen tested positive this afternoon. Update: It was testosterone. Levels "well above normal".

Josh Koscheck Still Hoping To Fight "Sorry @$$" Tito Ortiz-If He Has The Guts To Accept The Fight
And at 205, no less. "His head is on the block and next on the list. I walk around a solid 193 or so- I would be happy to fight (Tito Ortiz) at 205 if he would just find the guts to accept the fight. He never will but a man can hope. Don’t insult a man’s friends the way he insulted Mark Coleman (at UFC 109) and expect to not get smacked around for it. In fact I think I am going to learn open palm technique just for his sorry @$$ ... I’m the bad guy who will fight anyone. I want to be hated by my opponents and I don’t give a rat’s @$$ what anyone thinks about that. I just tell it how it is."

Indiana commission: Cro Cop will undergo medical checkup prior to UFC 119
Although UFC president Dana White said a recent eye injury won't keep Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic out of Saturday's UFC 119 event, the headliner faces one final hurdle before he's cleared to compete in the pay-per-view event. Andy Means, the director of the Indiana Gaming Commission's athletic division, today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) Filipovic will have a pre-fight medical exam prior to Friday's weigh-ins. Filipovic suffered an eye poke and likely cornea abrasion during his final training session in Croatia this past week. UFC 119 takes place at Indianapolis' Conseco Fieldhouse and marks the organization's debut in the state of Indiana. Filipovic (27-7-2 MMA, 4-3 UFC) takes on former heavyweight champ Frank Mir (13-5 MMA, 11-5 UFC) and looks for his third straight win and fifth victory in six fights.

UFC 122 official for Germany, Belfort vs. Okami to determine No. 1 contender
Although UFC officials previously announced November's UFC 122 event during a recent "Ultimate Insider" episode, today's official press release adds a level of relevance to the night's headliner. UFC 122, which takes place Nov. 13 at Konig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany, features a middleweight headliner between Vitor Belfort (19-8 MMA, 8-4 UFC) and Yushin Okami (25-5 MMA, 9-2 UFC). And following top contender Chael Sonnen's failed UFC 117 drug test, the UFC 122 headliner becomes all the more meaningful now that the winner has been promised a middleweight title shot.

Penn First Offered Florian, Considered Retirement Before UFC 123 Fight
After falling short in an attempt to reclaim his lightweight title this past month at UFC 118, B.J. Penn spent his time on the flight home from Boston pondering his career. But by the time he landed in Hawaii he decided to keep fighting. And although he'll next meet Matt Hughes at UFC 123, it appears UFC's original plan for him was Kenny Florian. According to Penn, that was the original plan except Florian was hurt and couldn't go. So Dana White then suggested Hughes. Penn agreed and it was on.
