Ben Saunders, booked for regional fight vs. Jacob Volkmann, explains UFC exit
(mmajunkie.com)
After a three-fight winning streak in his return to the UFC, Ben Saunders was stopped by Patrick Cote in January. Losing to a former title challenger to have a streak snapped is not something that normally would send a fighter packing from the UFC. But quietly, Saunders found himself no longer on the promotion’s roster. Next month, Saunders will get back to work for the first time since his loss to Cote, but it won’t be in the UFC. Instead, Saunders (19-7-2) will fight in Minnesota for Fight Night at the Island against fellow UFC vet Jacob Volkmann (19-6). The event takes place at Treasure Island Resort & Casino in Welch, Minn.

Conor McGregor unsure of going back to 145 after UFC 202, interested in Nate Diaz trilogy
(mmafighting.com)
UFC president Dana White has promised that Conor McGregor will drop back down to featherweight and unify the title with Jose Aldo, the interim champ, next. McGregor, though, doesn't seem to be all that interested in an Aldo rematch. McGregor defeated Aldo to win the UFC featherweight title by knockout in just 13 seconds at UFC 194 back in December. Aldo bounced back to defeat Frankie Edgar to win the interim title at UFC 200 last month. McGregor was present at that bout, even standing up and watching much of the fight from that position while everyone was sitting down around him. But McGregor made it seem like Friday on a UFC 202 media conference call that he was looking toward a fresh fight — one against Frankie Edgar.

UFC 202's Guangyou Ning Not at Fault After Testing Positive for Banned Anabolic Agent
(sherdog.com)
The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency has determined that UFC bantamweight Guangyou Ning is not at fault for a failed out-of-competition drug test earlier this year. Ning, 34, tested positive for traces of the banned anabolic agent clenbuterol in a urine sample provided on May 19. Clenbuterol is often used to treat breathing disorders and while it has never been approved by the U.S. FDA, it is available in other countries throughout the world. As far as a potential performance enhancer, it is believed to aid fat loss for anabolic steroid users. However, USADA issued a statement Tuesday clearing Ning of any wrongdoing because his positive test likely resulted from contaminated meat.

Benson Henderson: Mackenzie Dern ‘will be bigger than Ronda Rousey'
(mmafighting.com)
Benson Henderson's MMA Lab has long been one of the top fight camps in the world. However one of the team's brightest stars is still in the infancy of her mixed martial arts career. At the age of 23, jiu-jitsu prodigy Mackenzie Dern showcased her vast potential at Legacy FC 58 in July, dominating Kenia Rosas to win her professional debut with a one-sided decision. Now, with her first step out of the way, Henderson sees big things ahead in Dern's fighting future. "She will be bigger than Ronda Rousey before Ronda Rousey lost," Henderson said Monday on The MMA Hour. "She's going to be huge. She's going to be big. She has an excellent work ethic. "Go look her up, she is a multiple-time jiu-jitsu world champion. She's won ADCC. She's won Abu Dhabi. She's won Worlds. She's the current No. 1 ranked female jiu-jitsu practitioner on the planet. She has an amazing work ethic. She's an amazing athlete. She definitely needs to work on her MMA skills, but her ground game is phenomenal. Any woman on the planet goes to the ground with Mackenzie and Mackenzie is going to tap her, or dominate her like she did her first opponent." Dern is indeed the current No. 1 ranked IBJJF female jiu-jitsu player in the world, and her list of accolades rivals those of any female grappler in history. A jiu-jitsu black belt under her father Wellington "Megaton" Dias, Dern won many of her grappling titles competing between 127 and 132 pounds, however she cut down to the 115-pound strawweight division for her MMA debut and has stated that her goal is to sign with the UFC in 2017.
