Monte Cox: Doing Everything Except Fighting
At M-1 Global's introductory press conference yesterday, Monte Cox stood out because of what he was wearing-a suit. Although he usually doesn't wear one, he's doing everything you wouldn't do in one in MMA except be a fighter.
Good article about where he's been and what it took for M-1 to lure him in as well as his plans and hopes for the future. He has some great ideas for the promotion and if it works, it could be another big step forward for MMA.
The Spider Opines: Anderson Silva Talks UFC 77, Future Plans
After his UFC Middleweight Title defense at UFC 77, Champion Anderson Silva spoke with Sherdog about a variety of topics including the fight, his future plans, and some interesting possible matchups down the road.
I like the possibility of that Matt Hughes fight later down the road, he couold easily hold his own against Silva.
News From Japan: Legendary Faceoff Set For New Year's Eve
At a press conference earlier today in Tokyo, FEG announced Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Masakatsu Funaki as the first bout for the K-1 Premium 2007 Dynamite!! event on 12/31 in Osaka.
This sounds like a bout of legendary proportions, although FEG may have taken a lot of enthusiasm out of this Sunday's HERO's card in Korea with the timing of this announcement.
Emelianenko Ready to Seize Marquee (HL's from Sherdog & MMA Weekly articles)
NEW YORK, Oct. 22 -- During his 34 years working in the entertainment industry, Mitchell Maxwell has seen many contracts. So Vadim Finkelchtein, the Russian manager of Fedor Emelianenko (Pictures), listened to the Broadway show producer when it came time to discuss a deal that was designed to deliver the heavyweight star to the UFC.
"I said, as an entertainment guy, you can't have anybody sign this," Maxwell told Sherdog.com following Monday's press conference to officially announce the M-1 Global mixed martial arts organization, for which he now sits as chairman. "It's too one-sided. You can't exploit somebody like this."
Highlights from the two articles:
- Understand there will be hurdles in marketing Fedor in the US
- Wants to fight Randy, but respects him a great deal and wants to be friends with him
- Offered to send Fedor to the UFC to fight whoever is champ
- Offered UFC champ to fight Fedor for $1 MIL over his UFC deal plus $1MIL win bonus
- Expects UFC fighters to jump ship to M-1 when their contracts expire (isn't AA in contract negotiations?)

Chris Leben’s feud with Josh Koscheck and Bobby Southworth, Luke Cummo’s upset of Sammy Morgan and the infamous backyard brawl between lightweights Marlon Sims and Noah Thomas all made the list, as did the memorable finish between Scott Smith and Pete Sell at the season four finale.
It’s Official: Fedor Emelianenko Signs With M-1 Global
Top free-agent fighter Fedor Emelianenko, the heavyweight champion of the now-defunct PRIDE Fighting Championships, has signed a new six-fight, two-year deal with M-1 Global.
The signing was announced this evening at a press conference in New York City.
M-1 Global was previously known as M-1 Mix-Fight Championship. The Russian-based organization had been owned by Emelianenko’s manager, Vadim Finkelstein. However, Sibling Sports LLC today announced it had purchased the organization with the intention of making it a true international promotion.
An Interview With Ken Shamrock: Thoughts on Randy Couture, Dana White, and Upcoming Tryouts
Heavyweight champion Randy Couture isn’t the only UFC Hall of Famer who’s had a falling out with UFC President Dana White.
Before the UFC legend abruptly resigned from the UFC earlier this month, Ken Shamrock had his own issues with UFC management. After working to become the biggest name in mixed-martial arts — and becoming perhaps the first MMA superstar to get the sport international recognition — his relationship with the UFC soured to the point of being essentially nonexistent today.

IFL + Stats = FileStats
The IFL today announced that it has teamed up with STATS, a leading provider of sports stats and information, to create "FileStats". They claim it will be "the most comprehensive statistical program in the history of fight sports".
Sounds like CompuBox for MMA. I'm sure those insane stat junkies are going to have a field day dissecting every little stat that will be recorded. I'd like to know if the judges will have this data, could make judging more fair or at least more interesting.
FIGHTERS NAMED FOR STRIKEFORCE TOURNAMENT
Strikeforce on Sunday released the names of the four athletes set to compete in its one night, four-man tournament – the first sanctioned mixed martial arts tournament in California – scheduled for Nov. 16 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.
Pretty cool that they were able to negotiate a way to do a tourney with the commission, my moneys on Prangley.
ANDERSON SILVA REFLECTS ON UFC 77
Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva disposed of Rich "Ace" Franklin on Saturday night at UFC 77 in Cincinnati to retain his title.
He finished Franklin, winning the middleweight belt, in just under three minutes in October of last year. It took him twice as long this time, garnering a TKO victory at 1:07 of the second round.
"I thought Rich fought much better than he did the first time,” Silva told MMAWeekly.com. “He defended the clinch in a much better fashion this time. Rich fought well. I was just fortunate enough to fight a little bit better than Rich."
Rich Franklin Possibly Retiring?
Mentioned in a report noting the various injuries Rich Franklin sustained during his UFC 77 fight with Anderson Silva is that the former UFC Middleweight Champion may be considering retirement.
This wouldn't be good for UFC. Losing one hugely marketable star is bad enough, but losing 2 in just a couple weeks' time is even worse.
