Dennis Hallman's house burns down on Thanksgiving morning, former UFC fighter unhurt
(mmamania.com)
"Sad thanksgiving for me and my family. My house burned down early this AM. Thank God no one was hurt and I have that to be thankful for. Something like this makes my recent direction change all the harder...the one person that could make me feel okay about everything is no longer here. When God wants you to have a fresh start sometimes he really wants to make his point clear."

UFC bantamweight Nick Denis retires, cites potential brain injuries
(mmajunkie.com)
UFC bantamweight Nick Denis has announced his MMA retirement. The 29-year-old Canadian fighter, who made an impressive UFC debut earlier this year, made the announcement on Thursday on his personal blog. Denis cited concerns over potential brain injuries. Denis (11-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) signed with the UFC after posting a 10-2 record in organizations such as World Victory Road/Sengoku and KOTC. Then, in his UFC debut, he scored a 22-second knockout of Joseph Sandoval via stinging standing elbow strikes. But then came a submission loss to Roland Delorme in May in a back-and-forth bout. Even before that defeat, Denis, a former Ph.D. student in biochemistry, had begun research into brain injuries following an especially vicious knockout loss to Marlon Sandro in 2009.

Bisping makes compelling argument for interim title
(espn.co.uk)
Michael Bisping has expressed sympathy for Chris Weidman over the American's fresh shoulder injury, and made a serious case for why his fight with Vitor Belfort should be for the interim UFC middleweight title. Weidman was ruled out of UFC 155 on Wednesday by a shoulder problem that will require surgery. It leaves the 185-pounder looking at a three-to-six-month absence. "The news that Chris Weidman is out for six months has really put a downer on the entire middleweight division," Bisping wrote on Bisping.tv. "I feel really bad for him, especially as he's already had a massively crappy month with Hurricane Sandy destroying his house.

ONE FC's Ole Laursen returns to kickboxing against top ranked Giorgio Petrosyan this March
(bloodyelbow.com)
This March, one of Asia's biggest MMA stars in Ole Laursen makes his kickboxing return against one of the best in the sport, in Giorgio Petrosyan. Earlier this year, Ole Laursen notched the biggest win of his MMA career after a highly entertaining back and forth war against Eduard Folayang. Unfortunately, the ONE FC star wasn't able to follow up on that instant classic, and has been on the shelf for quite some time now. The Filipino-Danish fighter has already booked his next fight, but it looks like it won't be in Mixed Martial Arts. The former Muay Thai champ announced that on March, which is roughly a year since his last ONE FC bout, he will be getting off the bench and will be making a return to his kickboxing roots.

Alistair Overeem, Golden Glory settle legal issues
(mmafighting.com)
UFC heavyweight Alistair Overeem continues attempts to chart a smoother path towards his future. A few days after UFC president Dana White revealed that the former Strikeforce champion would likely return from his suspension to face Antonio Silva in February, Overeem and his former fight camp and management team at Golden Glory have resolved their outstanding legal issues, reaching a settlement to dismiss dueling lawsuits. In a press release distributed to the media by Golden Glory through their attorney Roderick J. Lindblom, it was announced the two sides reached an "amicable resolution" to their dispute.

Rickson Gracie's 'Mestre do Combate' event live stream
(static.vto.tv)
The promotion is the brainchild of the legendary Rickson Gracie, and features some unique rules. Today's event follows a "Rio vs. Sao Paulo" theme. Murilo Bustamante and Fernando Veras will coach teams, and five guys from each side will take each other on (not all at once, though that would be cool). There will also be three other bouts, the main event and two co-mains. Here's a look at the card: Vitor Miranda vs. Elton "Monstro" Rodrigues Peterson Maffort vs. Robert Peter Luciano "Izzy" Correa vs. Oseias Viana Samurais vs. Scorpions: Fernando Camoles vs. Kitner Moura Armando Sixel vs. Thiago Fernandes Gerson Conceicao vs. Alexandre "Sagat" Nunes Brandao Celso "Farpado" Baldow vs. Udi Lima Jefferson "Jeffinho" Nunes vs. Glauke Eugenio As stated above, the event will feature some unique rules. Fighters will weigh in the day of the fights, not the day before. There will be a 10-minute first round. And the most interesting difference is that if a fight is close to getting finished at the end of a round (someone is threatening with a submission, or has his opponent hurt with strikes), the round will continue until either a finish comes or the person gets out of danger. Big John McCarthy has been brought in by Rickson to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Glory Intends to Make Dream NYE Bigger Than Ever; Plans Full Assault on the U.S. Next Year
(mmaweekly.com)
For a brief period, it had appeared that major MMA in Japan had seen its final days when Dream’s parent company Real Entertainment closed its doors earlier this year. But then things quickly changed. In stepped Glory, announcing that the promotion would revive Dream for at least one more New Year’s Eve show from the Saitama Super Arena. “Dream has a great name in Japan – it has a great name around the world – but it’s a very strong Japanese product, so it allows us from the get-go to be more dominant in the Japanese market, which is an important piece of the puzzle in our global quest,” said Glory Managing Director Marcus Luer. “Taking over the Dec. 31 date also is very significant with what MMA and K-1 had done in the past on NYE in Japan. It’s a big day for the martial arts world, and we like the combination of being able to get in that slot and being able to do what we bring in the stand-up fighting world bigger and better.”

Once licensed, Diaz is gunning for the biggest fights possible, and that includes settling a long standing rivalry with UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre or current top contender Johny Hendricks.

'TUF 17' coach Jon Jones: Chael Sonnen doesn't deserve UFC title fight
(mmajunkie.com)
Five months from now, Chael Sonnen (27-12-1 MMA, 6-5 UFC) will fight for the UFC's light heavyweight title. He hasn't registered a 205-pound win in the octagon since 2006, and he was soundly defeated by UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in his most recent appearance. So why did UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones (17-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC) agree to coach opposite Sonnen on "The Ultimate Fighter 17" and ultimately face him in the octagon? "Bones" said it was an easy choice. This is his chance to silence the trashtalking master by beating him down in a cage.

Whatever UFC champ Anderson Silva does, Michael Bisping wants him to get on with it
(mmajunkie.com)
Whatever Silva's plan is, Michael Bisping wants to make sure his middleweight division doesn't get left behind. "Yes, of course, we like to fight, and it's a business as well," he said. "But you want that progression and to fulfill your dream, and my dream is to be world champion one day. We all have a clock that's ticking. I've still got a lot of time left, but I don't want to waste a year fighting for the hell of it. I want to know that I'm moving toward something."

For a few UFC fighters, there are some terrible moments that just won't die
(mmajunkie.com)
Former UFC welterweight Frank Trigg has a running joke with Zuffa matchmaker Sean Shelby, who also happens to be heavily involved in putting together the UFC's highlight reels. It's a familiar routine that often plays out via text message right before the UFC runs it's pre-event video package of great moments from fight cards past, all set to The Who's "Baba O'Riley." "Before it starts I say, 'Sean, are you about to hurt my feelings again?'" Trigg told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). It's not exactly a serious question, because Trigg already knows the answer. He knows that, just as surely as clips from the classic fight between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar will make it into the highlight reel, so will he. It's just that he'll be on the wrong end of one of those memorable UFC moments. He'll be getting carried across the cage like a bag of fertilizer by former 170-pound champ Matt Hughes. He'll be getting slammed on the mat and then choked into submission at UFC 52, right before Hughes is lifted up in triumph to the sound of soaring guitars and a wailing Pete Townsend. "I can't even listen to that song anymore," Trigg said. "It was seven years ago."

UFC boss White: Belt wouldn't be on line if Anderson Silva met Georges St-Pierre at 170
(mmajunkie.com)
Following his win over Carlos Condit this past Saturday, UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre questioned whether he needed to gain weight at all to fight middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva. Silva, he said, fought in PRIDE at 168 pounds and possibly carried the kind of frame suited to weight gains and drops – unlike him. Silva again expressed his desire to fight St-Pierre following UFC 154. And while UFC President Dana White still hopes to make the match in 2013, one incentive would likely be off the table if Silva dropped to welterweight: GSP's belt. "Probably not, because I don't know how many times Anderson would actually defend it," White said at the post-event press conference for this past Saturday's pay-per-view event.

Thiago Silva suspended for six months after testing positive for marijuana metabolites
(bloodyelbow.com)
Yet again Thiago Silva has failed his post-fight drug test following a win. This time it's for marijuana metabolites after his 3rd round submission win against Stanislav Nedkov. For the 2nd time in as many wins, UFC light-heavyweight Thiago Silva is in trouble. Against Brandon Vera in 2011 he was caught using a urine adulterant, and as a result lost his win against Vera and was suspended for a year. Now having won via 3rd round submission against Stanislav Nedkov, he's been busted for marijuana metabolites according to Mike Bohn.

Mike Kyle says he's fighting Gegard Mousasi at Jan. 12 Strikeforce event
(mmamania.com)
Strikeforce light heavyweight Mike Kyle has announced he expects to face former champion Gegard Mousasi at the final Strikeforce event early next year. Find out the details inside. Third time's the charm! After having a planned fight between Gegard Mousasi and Mike Kyle fall apart twice in the past, Strikeforce is apparently trying to make the bout happen one last time at the locked and loaded event at the start of the year (Jan. 12, 2013) in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. While the fight has not yet been officially confirmed by Strikeforce, Kyle relayed the news earlier today via a YouTube video he made while at the doctor's office preparing to get some stitches for a cut on his forehead. He says in the video that the cut will not be a problem or affect the fight, which would be taking place in about eight weeks.

Boxing legend Hector 'Macho' Camacho shot in the face, declared brain dead
(mmamania.com)
Puerto Rican boxing legend and former world champion Hector "Macho" Camacho was declared brain dead earlier today after getting shot in the face in San Juan. I know a lot of mixed martial arts (MMA) fans are also fans of the "sweet science," and I'm sure you won't be pleased to hear that Puerto Rican boxing legend Hector "Macho" Camacho was declared brain dead by his doctor earlier today after getting shot in the face in San Juan. From ABC News: Camacho was rushed to the Rio Piedras Medical Center in San Juan last night after a gunman shot him in the face while he was in his car with a friend near a shopping mall in the town of Bayamón. Torres said that a bullet aimed at Camacho's face, was deflected by his jaw, and made it's way to the top of the boxer's spinal chord, which means that if Camacho survives he could have trouble walking, or may even be paralyzed.
