Penn vs Fitch at UFC 127; Sotiropoulos vs. Siver Also Planned
"Just hours after earning impressive wins at Saturday’s UFC 123, new challenges already await former champ BJ Penn and rising lightweight George Sotiropoulos, as Penn is expected to face welterweight contender Jon Fitch and Sotiropoulos will likely meet Dennis Siver at UFC 127 on Feb. 27 in Sydney, Australia."
Jose Aldo Now Officially First UFC Featherweight Champion
Meet Jose Aldo, the UFC's first-ever featherweight champion. The 24-year-old Brazilian, who closed out his WEC run with two successful defenses of that promotion's 145-pound belt, was granted the UFC's first-ever featherweight championship when Zuffa LLC elected to merge the UFC and WEC. Today, in a ceremony held at The Palace of Auburn Hills in advance of this evening's UFC 123 event in suburban Detroit, UFC president Dana White awarded Also his belt. Aldo defends his newly issued UFC belt for the first time against top contender Josh Grispi at "UFC 125: Resolution," which takes place Jan. 1 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Ryan Bader On Jon Jones: He Has To Respect Me
It will be a battle of two of the fastest rising stars in the light heavyweight division when Ryan Bader meets Jon Jones at UFC 126 in February, but the hype for the bout has begun already.
Fresh off of his honeymoon, Bader is already in preparation mode to get ready to deal with the problems that Jones potentially presents in this fight. The former Arizona State All-American is quick to point out however that this isn’t the first time he’s faced a fighter with an unusual offense.
“It’s hard to emulate Jon Jones, just like it was hard to emulate Keith Jardine,” Bader said on Friday. “They’re both unorthodox, Jon is a great, dynamic, exciting fighter. He’s flashy, (throws) spinning elbows, spinning back kicks. I’m more of a grinder and just go out there and get the job done.”

Joe Lauzon Is An Emotionless Bastard
So he says. It keeps the pressure from getting to him. "I'm an emotionless bastard sometimes so I usually don't let the pressure get to me too much. [UFC 123] is a much bigger fight [than UFC 118] but I won't let it get to me. For George, I don't want to make any mistakes. I have to go for things but I can't do anything reckless because once he gets on top it's tough to get him away. I've known who Sotiropoulos is for a long time and I love watching him fight. I love watching his guard passing, his top position, he plays a lot of rubber guard, things like that. He doesn't make mistakes and he brings a lot of pressure. I've always payed close attention to him but I can see how other people may have overlooked him a little bit. I wouldn't be surprised if (Joe) Stevenson or (Kurt) Pellegrino thought it was gonna be a little easier fight then got surprised by him -- but I won't make that mistake."
Sengoku Adds Herman vs. Nakao To 12/30 Event
World Victory Road today added a heavyweight MMA fight to it's 12/30 all-day event, as top American prospect Dave Herman will face Japanese veteran Yoshihiro Nakao. "Soul of Fight" is an all-day sports festival that features MMA fights, kickboxing bouts, grappling matchups and other competitions. The slate of MMA fights, which also includes WVR's welterweight grand prix finale and Asian bantamweight GP semifinals, is the main attraction. DREAM Announces Fernandes-Takaya Title Fight For Dynamite!! 2010
The first fight was officially announced for DREAM Dynamite!! 2010 on December 31 today, and apparently DREAM Featherweight Champion Bibiano Fernandes got paid because he's set to defend the title against Hiroyuki Takaya. Earlier this year at DREAM.13, he made his first successful title defense and narrowly edged former champ Joachim Hansen. However, he's been on the sidelines since then due to alleged issues with DREAM officials paying him. Takaya gets a second shot at Fernandes and the title here, after losing to Fernandes he then was TKO'd by Michihiro Omigawa but then TKO'd Joachim Hansen & Chase Beebe, both in the first round.
Sonnen Has Been Undergoing Hormone Replacement Therapy For at Least the Past Year and Assumed CSAC Knew
According to the story, Sonnen has been undergoing hormone replacement therapy since before his fight with Yushin Okami, which he reported to and was given clearance to fight by the California State Athletic Commission prior to the the bout. Because it is a permanent treatment Sonnen allegedly assumed his doctor prescribed required testosterone treatment would be on file, and thus never re-reported it to the commission.
Testosterone levels can drop off for various reasons, including age, hereditary reasons or because of stress the endocrine system is due to a number of variables, not limited to repeated weight fluctuation and dehydration caused by weight cutting.
Don Frye Says Brock Lesnar Is An "Embarrassment" And UFC "Hand Picked" His Opponents
That's apparently what he told the website hurtsbad.com in a recent interview, and he's still telling it like it is. "We have all had to watch Brock Lesnar fart around. That guy is an embarrassment. God damn, you get to hand pick his opponents for him for awhile then someone who is a half way decent athlete comes along and hits him once and he pisses his pants and runs. If he wasn't in a cage he would still be running."
Bisping Potential UFC 127 Headliner
Michael Bisping's next fight will be at UFC 127, which takes place at Acer Arena on Feb. 27 in Sydney, Australia.
“The Count” released the news in his video blog, posting the announcement to his Web site Thursday morning. The Brit also gave an indication that he would fight in the show's main event, possibly against Jorge Rivera.
“Obviously a certain someone who was supposed to fight recently but didn't has been talking s--t about me...says we're going to fight soon. I don't know if that is to be the case or not, but I’m keen to find out exactly who my next fight is going to be,” said Bisping.
Bisping is referencing two reports that ran last weekend regarding the potential fight. The possibility of the matchup first surfaced in Germany during UFC 122, when Rivera's opponent Alessio Sakara withdrew from their fight at the last minute to gastroenteritis. On Sunday, Rivera's manager spoke with MMAWeekly regarding Rivera fighting Bisping in the near future.
EA Sports MMA taps out at retail
The numbers are in, and they are not pretty: EA Sports' first entry into the world of mixed martial arts videogames, EA Sports MMA, has failed to make an impact on the market despite decent reviews and excellent word-of-mouth.
The game sold just 45,000 units in its release month, according to an article at GameIndustry.biz that references a report by analyst Cowen & Company. To put this in perspective, the original UFC Undisputed 2009 sold over 1 million copies across PS3 and Xbox 360 in its first month of release according to market research firm NPD , and even the rather lukewarmly received 2010 edition managed 413,000. The poor sales do not seem to be limited to North America, either, as Chart Track numbers for PAL territories show the game failing to crack the top 20 in its debut week.
UFC Cuts Goran Reljic
The losers' aftermath from UFC 122 has officially begun, and first to get Das Boot is Goran Reljic. Sources close to the situation have confirmed that Reljic has been released by UFC following a decision loss to Krzyzstof Soszynski, his 3rd loss in a row after starting his career 8-0. He was 1-3 in UFC but lost the better part of 2 years to a back injury that kept him out until this February.
M-1 Seeking Tuneup Fight For Fedor Before Werdum Rematch
That's the word from The Fink, aka M-1 Global head & Fedor manager Vadim Finkelchtein. "We are also looking for one fight before we'd like the rematch with Werdum. However, the rematch is extremely important for us; Fedor should have a chance to avenge his loss." This comes after Werdum himself hinted at a possible overseas fight before his own SF return.
Matt Hughes Will Have Fun, Fun Fun Until Dana Takes The Division Away
In other words, Hughes is now fighting to have fun, not to not lose. "Cutting the pressure out has made it a lot more fun. All in all I’m just having a great experience when it comes to fighting. I’m going out there to win and to have fun as opposed to fighting not to lose. I changed my training camp up and got around more positive people. I also got a lot of support from my wife. Put it all together and it really cut the pressure. If Dana comes to me and says they want me to make a run at the title, then that's fine ... But the way I see it, I’m set. I’ve never been a guy to chase the record books. I’m just looking to have a good time and compete. When [my career is over], I’m sure I'll miss it. But when I retire, I don't think it'll be because I don't like competing. It will be because my heart and mind aren't in it." Hughes next fights BJ Penn for a 3rd time Saturday.
Mousasi Expects LeBanner At Dynamite, Kyle In SF Return
While neither fight is official yet, Gegard Mousasi said today he expects to next face Jerome LeBanner at December's DREAM Dynamite! NYE event in Japan, then to face Mike Kyle in his Strikeforce return in 2011. "I don't know if I'm fighting him yet," Mousasi said of LeBanner. "They haven't confirmed. They asked me, and I said yes, so now if he said yes, the fight is on." It's also not known if Mousasi-LeBanner would be under kickboxing or MMA rules, but Mousasi hopes it's MMA. As for Strikefirce, Mousasi says February. "I'm fighting Mike Kyle in Strikeforce. February – that's what I heard."
Dana: No Decisions Yet On TUF 13 Coaches
Dana White loves Twitter. During today's pre-event press conference for UFC 123 in Detroit, the UFC's head honcho talked about the effectiveness of having 1.2 million fans providing instant feedback on his decisions. So if you have an idea for which fighters should coach the upcoming 13th season of "The Ultimate Fighter," get your suggestions in. As of today, White said no coaches have been determined. "We haven't decided who the coaches will be yet," White said. "I've been on the road for two weeks now, and I don't go home till Sunday. And then I'm back on the road on Wednesday. I need to get back in the office ... and get some [expletive] done." TUF 13 begins production in January for an April premiere, and the only thing known about the season at this time appears to be the weight classes-Welterweights & Middleweights.
Shine Fights Signs Rolles Gracie
After a one-and-done stint in UFC this year, Rolles Gracie has become the latest acquisition by Shine Fights. Executives today announced that Gracie has signed on with the upstart promotion, and his official debut will be announced at a later date. Gracie is 3-1 career, winning his first 3 fights before losing at UFC 109 to short-notice replacement Joey Beltran.
Ohi-No: UFC Not Returning To Ohio In March
The annual Arnold Festival weekend in March in Columbus, Ohio will be missing something next year-UFC. Dana White today confirmed that the organization won't return to the Buckeye State for the usual Arnold Sports Festival weekend show. UFC ran that weekend from 2007-09, then WEC took the spot last year. "We're definitely not (going to Columbus) this year," said White, referring to 2011. The WEC-UFC merger likely was the clincher, without it WEC probably would've run Ohio again that weekend and UFC currently has 2 shows planned around the Arnolds-UFC 127 in Australia in late February and a tentative Middle East event in mid-March.
UFC Prelims Expected To Return In 2011, But Deal Not Yet Official
After a successful full year of the specials, the "UFC Prelims" broadcasts appear they'll return in 2011. The one-hour specials, which air on Spike TV, feature two live preliminary-card fights and precede major event's pay-per-view broadcasts. Dana White said today he expects the specials to return, but Spike TV officials declined to comment, presumably due to the ongoing negotiations that they first must wrap up with the UFC.
UFC President Dana White: This Is Tito Ortiz’s Last Stand
One last shot.
That’s what Tito Ortiz asked for, and that’s what Tito Ortiz is going to get.
After losing a three-round decision to Matt Hamill at UFC 121, most people felt that Ortiz, after years of calling the UFC home, would be shown the door out of the Octagon. Mounting a record of 0-4-1 in his last five fights, that is what UFC president Dana White thought about Ortiz’s future as well.
“I thought I was gonna cut him, too,” he told MMAWeekly.com, when posed with the idea that most people thought Ortiz would be cut loose after UFC 121.
But just last week in Germany, White said that Ortiz would be returning to the Octagon in early 2011 to fight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. The UFC president didn’t reveal a date or location, but it is widely believed to be taking place in Abu Dhabi in March.
