UFC 78 injuries and medical suspensions
Payback is a bitch … at least if you’re Joe Doerksen. Middleweight Ed Herman cracked the orbital bone on Doerksen’s face with a knee during the first round of their 185-pound scrap at UFC 78: “Validation” on Saturday, November 17 from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. To his credit “El Dirte” persevered through the pain until he was stopped with a crushing hook in the opening seconds of round three.
UFC And CBS Reportedly Close To Deal
The recent writer's strike may be working in favor of the Ultimate Fighting Championship as sources say it is close to announcing a television deal with major broadcast network CBS. The writer's strike has caused headaches in Hollywood. With several shows not completed due to the strike, many networks are now looking into more reality-style television shows to keep their ratings afloat. According to Mediapost Publications, the UFC is in the final stages of a deal with CBS, and it may be announced as early as this week.

Multiple major Networks looking at airing live MMA due to writers strike.
NBC has become interested in airing mixed martial arts programming starting early in 2008. Due to the writer's strike the big Networks are turning to reality TV, which doesn't require writers, to fill the void. It appears that the UFC is in "advance discussions" with CBS to air prime-time specials on CBS in the first quarter if the strike continues and a deal could be closed as soon as this week. Great news for MMA!
UFC 78: Fighter paydays and salaries for ‘Validation’
We’re not going to get to see them, according to Nicholas Lembo, Counsel for the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board (NJSACB).
Report: Fedor Emelianenko vs. Hong Man Choi on New Year’s Eve
Fedor Emelianenko (26-1) will, in fact, fight in Japan on New Year’s Eve. His opponent? Seven-foot-two, 352-pound Hong Man Choi (1-0). Greg Savage made the announcement on today’s Savage Radio Show.
Corey Hill to return at UFC Fight Night 12 (Exclusive)
Former contestant on season five of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) and 155-pound beanstalk, Corey Hill, will make his UFC debut Wednesday, January 23 at 9 p.m. ET on SpikeTV. No opponent has been named at this time. In addition, no venue has been announced for the show.
Strikeforce Attendance Figures, Fighter Payouts Released
The CSAC has released the attendance numbers and disclosed fighter payouts for this past weekend's Strikeforce events. They claimed 5621 paid attendance, 7249 total attendance for just under $390K live gate, and paid out $275K to the fighters.
GSP On Hughes-Serra, Road Back To The Title
Former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre, likely out 3 more months while waiting for his title shot, recently gave his thoughts on the upcoming Matt Serra-Matt Hughes title fight as well as his training to improve as a fighter and get the belt back when he does return to action.

Update On Couture-White Planned Sit Down Meeting
Randy Couture was at UFC 78 and has been civil with Dana White. Dana had claimed that he was meeting with Couture this Tuesday, and sources close to Couture said there was no meeting scheduled. Apparently, they were actually supposed to meet this past Tuesday and Dana thought it was this coming Tuesday, so he wasn't there and Randy thought Dana blew him off. Dana joked that clearly his communication skills still hadn't improved much. He said they would now be meeting after Thanksgiving
Henderson Talks About Shot At Silva's Title
After the Ultimate Fighting Championship finished with its return show to New Jersey, UFC president Dana White announced a middleweight title match-up between champion Anderson Silva and the only Pride champion in that weight class, Dan Henderson. They will meet on March 1 in Columbus, Ohio. Henderson won the first ever 183-pound division title in Pride by winning a Grand Prix tournament, but this will be the first test for him at this weight since returning to the Octagon.

Last week World Extreme Cagefighting officially announced plans to hold its final card of 2007 on Dec. 12 in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The promotion will be thanking its loyal fans by holding three title matches on the card with Doug Marshall defending the light heavyweight title against Ariel Gandulla; Paulo Filho expected to defend the middleweight title against Chael Sonnen; and the company's signature star Urijah Faber defending his featherweight title against Jeff Curran.
Alves, Lytle, Herman and Gono Win $55,000 UFC 78 Bonuses
Following Saturday’s UFC 78 event at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., UFC executives dished out a total of $220,000 in Fight of the Night, Submission of the Night, and Knockout of the Night bonuses. The traditional post-event bonuses have gone from just $10,000 a year ago to the new level of $55,000.
UFC 78 notes: Lightweights save the day
On a night in which the main matches didn't exactly live up to the hype, it was up to the lightweights on the undercard to supply the action. Both Frank Edgar and Joe Lauzon made their statements in the crowded 155-lb. horse race. New Jersey native Edgar lit up his home-state crowd at the Prudential Center with a 15-minute clinic against tough Spencer Fisher, while Lauzon tore through previously unbeaten Jason Reinhardt in a non-televised preliminary match.
ESPN Radio Reporting Huge Potential Matchup for UFC 82
Who's been announced as being the potential main event for the card scheduled for March? Steve Cofield of ESPN Radio is reporting that at the press conference following UFC 78 there was an unofficial announcement made stating that Dan Henderson would be dropping down to 185 pounds to face UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva at UFC 82 in March of 2008.

The announcement was made during the post-event press conference for UFC 78, which took place Saturday at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The championship bout will likely take place at UFC 82.
