UFC 78 injuries and medical suspensions
Payback is a bitch … at least if you’re Joe Doerksen. Middleweight Ed Herman cracked the orbital bone on Doerksen’s face with a knee during the first round of their 185-pound scrap at UFC 78: “Validation” on Saturday, November 17 from the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. To his credit “El Dirte” persevered through the pain until he was stopped with a crushing hook in the opening seconds of round three.

Multiple major Networks looking at airing live MMA due to writers strike.
NBC has become interested in airing mixed martial arts programming starting early in 2008. Due to the writer's strike the big Networks are turning to reality TV, which doesn't require writers, to fill the void. It appears that the UFC is in "advance discussions" with CBS to air prime-time specials on CBS in the first quarter if the strike continues and a deal could be closed as soon as this week. Great news for MMA!

Randy Couture was at UFC 78 and has been civil with Dana White. Dana had claimed that he was meeting with Couture this Tuesday, and sources close to Couture said there was no meeting scheduled. Apparently, they were actually supposed to meet this past Tuesday and Dana thought it was this coming Tuesday, so he wasn't there and Randy thought Dana blew him off. Dana joked that clearly his communication skills still hadn't improved much. He said they would now be meeting after Thanksgiving

UFC 78 notes: Lightweights save the day
On a night in which the main matches didn't exactly live up to the hype, it was up to the lightweights on the undercard to supply the action. Both Frank Edgar and Joe Lauzon made their statements in the crowded 155-lb. horse race. New Jersey native Edgar lit up his home-state crowd at the Prudential Center with a 15-minute clinic against tough Spencer Fisher, while Lauzon tore through previously unbeaten Jason Reinhardt in a non-televised preliminary match.
