Hughes / GSP is on !!!
November 24th, 2007
I’m going to fight Georges St. Pierre on December 29th. I’ve got a couple reasons why I’ve made this decision and I will share those at a later time. I’ve asked for this to be for an interim title and if Matt Serra can’t fight in a year, then this would just be the title fight; but I don’t know if that is going to happen right now. I will keep you all posted.
go GSP !!!
Kenny Florian to fight Roger Huerta-Clay Guida winner in February/March?
Lightweight contender Kenny Florian reveals that he could possibly fight an opponent based on what happens in the next two weeks. Roger Huerta and Clay Guida will scrap during the main event at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 6 Finale on December 8, which would set up a great 155-pound clash in 2008 (UFC 81 or UFC 82) and possibly determine a number one contender if the Sean Sherk situation continues to stall.
Nate Diaz vs. Alvin Robinson at UFN 12
The season five winner of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), Nate Diaz (7-2), will return to the Octagon against Alvin Robinson (9-2) at UFC Fight Night 12 on January 23.
The Caesar Gracie Jiu Jitsu-trained Diaz is fresh off a submission win (guillotine) over Junior Assuncao at UFC Fight Night 11 in September. It was his first bout since defeating Manny Gamburyan at the TUF 5 Finale to become the 155-pound winner of the mixed martial arts reality series that airs on SpikeTV.
Robinson bounced back from a punishing loss to Kenny Florian (verbal submission) in his Octagon debut at UFC 73: “Stacked” to beat Jorge Gurgel to a bloody pulp at UFC 77: “Hostile Territory” last month en route to a unanimous decision win.
Both Diaz and Robinson are well known for their submission games; however, the edge on the ground would have to go to Diaz in this one — he’s very crafty. “The Kid,” on the other hand, is very strong and powerful.
Fitch out of fight with Hughes
MMAmania can confirm that Fitch is not available to fight that weekend. In fact, he told us today, “I’m not even going to be in the country. I’ll be in Vietnam tending to some personal matters.”
BELCHER CONFIRMS FIGHT WITH ALMEIDA AT UFC 81
Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight contender Alan ‘The Talent’ Belcher will look to make it three-straight victories when he steps into the cage to face tough veteran fighter Ricardo Almeida on Feb. 2 at UFC 81 in Las Vegas.
Belcher stopped “The Ultimate Fighter” star Kalib Starnes by TKO at UFC 77 in Cincinnati and is proving that he is a force to be reckoned with in the 185-pound class.
Belcher on Friday confirmed to MMAWeekly.com that he will face Almeida. He said of his future opponent, “He beat Nate Marquardt by submission and Ryo Chonan by decision and his jiu-jitsu is really good, so it is going to be a good fight.”
thiago alves or jon fitch could replace serra
According to a UFC official, if Serra is out for a long period of time and Hughes agrees to fight on Dec. 29, the two most likely candidates to for an opponent would be Jon Fitch or Thiago Alves. Josh Koscheck and Diego Sanchez are both coming off losses, and Sanchez has talked about cutting to 155.
it says this down near the bottom of the article.
Henderson: I'll beat Silva up
DAN HENDERSON says he'll knock out middleweight champion Anderson Silva in the main event at UFC 82.
The mouthwatering bout pits the two ex-Pride superstars together in the UFC for the first time.
And President Dana White confirmed one of the most hotly anticipated clashes of 2008 is scheduled for March 1 next year.
Karo Parisyan has a broken hand
One factor that almost no one knew going into the fight with Chonan is that Karo had a broken hand, something that may keep him out of action for a while waiting for the injury to heal.
“My right hand is broken,” Parisyan stated. “I fought with a broken hand, on top of my wrist, on top of my hand, right above my knuckles, and I fought with that.”

Urijah Faber Looks to Put WEC on the Map (Story from Yahoo! Sports)
by Kevin Iole/Yahoo! Sports
(Reprinted from Yahoo! Sports with permission)
On a cold and rainy Friday afternoon, Urijah Faber sits inside a cafe in New York City and does his best to drum up interest in his Dec. 12 featherweight title fight with Jeff Curran.
As popular as it has gotten over the last several years, mixed martial arts still hasn’t hit the mainstream with the American populace. And Faber, who holds the WEC’s championship belt, understands that as big as his bout with Curran is in his world, it’s barely above meaningless to most of the people inside the coffee shop who are taking a break from the bitter cold.

The report comes from Chris Howie of MMANews.com, who quoted Chute Boxe representative Julio Heller.

Cage Rage promoters Andy Geer and Dave O’Donnell have announced that Jordan Miller will step in for injured featherweight Brad “One Punch” Pickett at Cage Rage 24 “Feel the Pain” on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Wembley Arena in London, England. The announcement finalizes the card for the 11-bout event.
Pickett (11-4), who broke his arm while training with the American Top Team, had been scheduled to battle Trojan Freefighter Ronny Mann (9-1-1), a top contender in the Cage Rage featherweight division. The 29-year-old Pickett is expected to miss six weeks.
