If not cleared to fight by June, Bellator's Brian Foster vows retirement
(mmajunkie.com)
Brian Foster said he's in the best shape of his life and he's never felt better. Unfortunately, a paperwork snafu dredged up his past and brought to nothing the 12 weeks of work he put in for his since-postponed Bellator debut. Now, the fighter told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) he will retire if doesn't fight by June. "I'm not going to give to a sport that's just not giving back to me," Foster (18-5 MMA, 0-0 BFC) said. Foster was scheduled to appear in Bellator's season-six welterweight tournament, which kicks off Friday at Bellator 63. But Jordan Smith replaced him when the Mohegan Sun Commission declined him clearance for the MTV2-televised event, which takes place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Smith meets Foster's original opponent, David Rickels. Foster said he is medically cleared to fight, but the paperwork proving so didn't get to the commission in time.

UFC 147 official with Silva-Sonnen, Silva-Belfort on June 23 in Rio de Janeiro stadium
(mmajunkie.com)
As expected, two long-awaited rematches will co-headline the UFC's return to Brazil. Officials today announced that UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (31-4 MMA, 14-0 UFC) will rematch Chael Sonnen (27-11-1 MMA, 6-4 UFC), and "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil" coaches Wanderlei Silva (34-11-1 MMA, 4-6 UFC) and Vitor Belfort (21-9 MMA, 10-5 UFC) also will meet again at UFC 147. UFC 147 takes place June 23 at Joao Havelange Stadium in Rio de Janiero. It's expected to set a new UFC record attendance. UFC 147's main card airs on pay-per-view, and FX and Facebook are expected to carry the prelims. It takes place the day after UFC on FX 4 in Atlantic City, N.J. Joao Havelange Stadium (also known as Engenhao Stadium) is the first soccer stadium to host a UFC event. It won out after UFC officials faced issues with its initially planned host site of Sao Paulo. The Rio stadium, which also hosts the 2016 Summer Olympics, currently can seat approximately 47,000 spectators. UFC officials didn't specify a seating configuration, but they expect it to break the record that Toronto's Rogers Centre set with UFC 129 (55,724) in 2011. UFC president Dana White mentioned the possibility of 80,000 fans attending the event during a press conference this past week. However, it's not known if that's the figure they're currently shooting for...

Yasubey Enomoto Defended M-1 Global Title With An Open Wound Infection
(bloodyelbow.com)
Yasubey Enomoto fought on M-1 Challenge 31 against Rashid Magomedov in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It was his first title defense of the M-1 Global Welterweight Championship he won last December and it proved to be a very tough outing for the Swiss-Japanese fighter. Against a very tough Russian opponent, Enomoto battled through multiple eye pokes and groin kicks, and eventually lost a decision (50-45, 49-47, 50-45) in a fight that was definitely much closer than what the scorecards portrayed. Those hardships weren't the only challenges Yasubey had to face though, as he had a much tougher battle outside the ring. A challenge that is relatively common in MMA but very dangerous to its athletes. "He fought with an infection on his shin and was on antibiotics the whole week prior to the fight," said his brother Felipe Enomoto in an interview with BloodyElbow.com, "That's why it was taped, because he had a huge open wound there" Felipe, who is currently training for a ONE FC bout against Zorobabel Moreira, said that his brother's infection got even worse. It has been almost two weeks after the bout, and Yasubey is still getting treated in the hospital

TOM WATSON STOPS JACK MARSHMAN AT BAMMA 9, RETAINS MIDDLEWEIGHT CROWN
(sherdog.com)
BIRMINGHAM, England -- Tom Watson scored a second-round TKO over Jack Marshman to retain his British Association of Mixed Martial Arts middleweight title in the main event of BAMMA 9 at the National Indoor Arena on Saturday. The crowd was bolstered by a large contingent from serving paratrooper Marshman’s regiment, and the atmosphere was cranked high in anticipation of the fight. Both combatants set off at a furious pace, with Marshman trying to find his range, while the experienced Watson picked him off with punches and kicks. “Kong” had the better of some vicious exchanges, but also suffered a cut above his eye for his troubles. The second stanza continued in the same fashion, with both men looking to land big shots. Marshman continued to push forward despite taking a number of tasty leg kicks, but Watson’s more varied arsenal brought the beginning of the end. As his Welsh opponent tried to close the distance, “Kong” landed a spinning-back elbow. Marshman was rocked and Watson kindly helped him on his way down. The years of training across the Atlantic began to pay dividends as Watson controlled his man on the deck while landing spiteful punches and elbows. Marshman offered nothing in return, prompting referee Marc Goddard to stop the contest at the 4:50 mark, making for an impressive comeback for Watson after a nearly year-long injury layoff.

Despite apparent support, Thiago Santos' camp not entirely happy with Bellator brass
(mmajunkie.com)
Thiago Santos' manager makes no excuses for his fighter missing weight for Friday's Bellator 62 event. That said, he's not exactly thrilled at the circumstances that were presented to his client. Despite Bellator Fighting Championships CEO Bjorn Rebney's decision not to cut Santos for the infraction and to instead help connect him with a nutritional expert, manager Josef Borges believes the company should take a little responsibility for the misstep. "What happened with Thiago was that he needed to cut a lot of weight for the fight on March 16," Borges told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) in his native Portuguese. "He cut 12 kilograms (27.5 pounds) up until 1 p.m. of March 15, when I called him to inform him the fight was postponed. At that moment, he was only 3 kilograms (6.6 pounds) from making weight...

(mmajunkie.com)
While India's Super Fight League is not legally required to follow the orders of the California State Athletic Commission, promotion officials have decided to do exactly that. Ruediger therefore has been pulled from a planned SFL 2 matchup with UFC vet Paul Kelly (12-4), and Ryan Healy (19-10) will instead take the matchup. M-1 Global wins judgment against Vyacheslav Vasilevsky, wants fighter back
(mmajunkie.com)
M-1 Global has staked claim to Bellator middleweight Vyacheslav Vasilevsky in a Dutch court and plans to pursue the fighter in the U.S. A judgment won this past Thursday awards damages to the Russia-based promotion that amount to several hundred thousand euros and bars him from fighting in Bellator or any other organization. Neither Vasilevsky or his representatives were present in court. "We're disappointed that we had to take this step," M-1 Global Director of Operations Evgeni Kogan told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com). M-1 asserts that the middleweight (16-1 MMA, 1-0 BFC) has been in breach of contract for over a year and is tied to the promotion until mid-2013. Vasilevsky signed with Bellator this past November and made his promotional debut this past Friday at Bellator 61, where he advanced to the semifinals of the promotion's season-six tournament with a decision over Victor O'Donnell (11-4 MMA, 0-2 BFC).
