K-1 to start women's division
The hybrid kickboxing MMA company K-1 held a press conference yeaterday to announce that they are starting a women's division. And to herald this announcement, K-1 producer Sadaharu Kanigawa announced that the first women's match will be on the Mar. 20 show in Seoul, Korea. Kanigawa said they haven't decided what the women's division will be called or the start date but it will start in 2009.
Shields vs. Riggs on Apr. 11 Strikeforce Card Cancelled
A previously announced welterweight bout between former EliteXC champion Jake Shields and UFC veteran Joe Riggs has been scratched from Strikeforce's April 11 line-up on Showtime. The news comes courtesy of The Fight Network's partner FiveOuncesOfPain.com. According to the report by Sam Caplan, neither Riggs or Shields is injured. Sources told Caplan that Shields may be preserved for a main event spot on the next Strikeforce card in Seattle set for May, possibly against former EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler.
Mike Patt released by the UFC
Mike Patt’s run in the UFC has come to an end. Sources have informed FiveOuncesOfPain.com that the jiu-jitsu black belt was released by the promotion shortly after his TKO loss to Brandon Vera this past Saturday at UFC 96.
UFC 99 In Germany Will Be On US PPV
The UFC's German invasion has shaped up quickly, with the bulk of the June 13 fighters confirmed in less than a month. More than half the fighters on the card are either foreign-born or based outside the US, with one fighter, Peter Sobotta, bringing in the hometown crowd as a resident of Balingen, only 272 miles, or 438 kilometers, from the 20,000 seat Lanxess Arena in Cologne. The UFC recently inked a deal with German sports network DSF to air UFC content, including live or tape-delayed events. At the festivities for UFC 96 last weekend, UFC president Dana White said the European card would come at a premium for those watching in the US. "It will be a pay per view event," White told reporters. (scroll down a bit.....)
Tom Egan Released By UFC
Tom Egan (3-1) has been released from his contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Fighters Only learned this afternoon. The Irish welterweight made his debut against fellow organisation debutant Jon Hathaway (10-0) at UFC 93 in Dublin, but lost by TKO. Egan was informed of his release in an email last night, according to his coach John Kavanagh of SBG Dublin.
Shane Carwin Out Up To 2 Months
In perhaps the first setback of his UFC career, Shane Carwin will be out of training and action for 6-8 weeks due to injuries suffered against Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC 96.
UFN 18: Griffin vs. dos Anjos Could Air On TV
With TUF 8 winner Efrain Escudero being forced off UFN 18 due to an injury, UFC likely will change the TV lineup. Although not yet definite, it's likely that Tyson Griffin vs. Rafael dos Anjos will be moved up to a TV fight and Jeremy Stephens vs. Gleison Tibau demoted from main event to prelim.
Exclusive: Fedor NOT Fighting on DREAM's OWGP
We asked M-1 if there was any truth to this rumor, or statement made by a DREAM Official. There is no truth in this rumour at all. No one really thought it was possible for Fedor to enter, but a great deal of people hoped, including every major Croatian news team. After the statment from the DREAM official that they plan to host a Open-Weight Grand Prix, and they want Fedor and Mirko to be in it, right away they hoped for Fedor vs Crocop 2. However, at this time M-1 is saying “No Truth At all” to this statement and rumor.

Credeur vs. Catone Added To UFN 18
An already full UFN 18 card just got a little fuller. Tim Credeur vs. Nick Catone has been confirmed as a late addition to the 4/1 card, now giving the event a total of 12 fights.

Mark "The Hammer" Coleman tangles with TUF 1 veteran Stephan Bonnar at UFC 100. Tough fight for both guys, especially since both are coming off of a loss.
WEC Fighter Will Ribeiro Recovering Well After Motorcycle Accident
During such difficult times in the MMA community, there is some positive news out there today. This time in regards to the recovery of WEC fighter Will Ribeiro after his nearly fatal motorcycle accident just three months ago.
DREAM 8: 2 Non-GP Fights Announced
FEG today announced 2 fights for DREAM 8 that will not be part of the Welterweight GP. Those fights are Zelg Galesic vs. Andrews Nakahara and Ikuhisa Minowa vs. Katsuyori Shibata.
Eliot Marshall vs Mike Ciesnolevicz set for UFC 97
A light heavyweight bout has been added to the UFC's upcoming return to Montreal as "Ultimate Fighter" season 8 submission specialist Eliot Marshall gets back in the Octagon for the first time since the finale show to take on Mike Ciesnolevicz on April 18. The fight was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the fight who indicated the bout has been agreed upon and bout agreements should be issued shortly.
Gleison Tibau in vs Stephens
With Efrain Escudero on the bench due to a rib injury sustained in training, American Top Team lightweight Gleison Tibau will step in to fight Jeremy Stephens. Sources close to negotiations alerted MMAWeekly.com of the change. The fight is the second in three months for Stephens, who himself stood in for injured teammate Hermes Franca to face Joe Lauzon at UFC Fight Night 17 in February. Stephens lost by submission in the second round.

Ringstar Announces American Fighter Shoe line
Ringstar, a martial arts shoe maker announced a deal with UFC Star Rich Franklin and American Fighter apparel to produce a complete line of shoes with the American Fighter/Rich Franklin brand. The announcement was made at the American Fighter pre-fight party at club Mynt Ulta Lounge prior to UFC 96. The shoe line will include casual, athletic and summer shoes. The shoe line is scheduled to hit retail stores by mid summer. Also announced was a partnership between Ringstar and the “Real American Fighters” program. The RAF program is a partnership between the Disabled American Veterans, Rich Franklin and American Fighter. The program donates dollars back to the DAV for apparel and other items sold by American Fighter. Ringstar joins the program and will sell a line of flip flop shoes through retail and give a portion of the proceeds to the Real American Fighters Program. “We are real excited to work with Ringstar” Stated Rich Franklin at the party. “These guys are nothing but class and we have a great future ahead. The designs are awesome. I am a shoe guy and this is going to be real nice” The Ringtar deal was inked in January.

Efrain is out of april 1st main event
Coming off of a successful run as the lightweight champion of season eight of "The Ultimate Fighter," Efrain Escudero will have to wait a little longer for his official UFC debut. He has been forced off the card with a rib injury, sources close to Escudero confirmed to MMAWeekly.com on Wednesday.
